Current List

Gday people,

I just thought I would share my thoughts on the current list we have.

I would go as far to say that this is the most exciting, and talented lists I have seen for many years, as it is stacked with potential and I am 100% confident that this list will guide us to a premiership within the next 5 years, hopefully several. (it would be nice to conquer 4 in a row and beat the lions dominance, but lets not get too carried away!)

The core of the playing group, except for Goody and Edwards are all in the peak of their respective careers, and show solid signs of cosistancy and reliability....... ie, Rutten, Stiffy, Doughty, Bock, Thompson, Vince, Porps, Knights, Reilly (bar this year), Douglas and to an extent Symes.

these players are players that play consistant footy week in and week out and even though they have a quiet game here and there, generally do the job for us.

The younger up and coming players are showing real potential and signs of things to come. Some are already playing solid consistant footy, these players will only get better and turn into elite players ie, Dangermouse, Otten, Tippett, Tex, Mackay.

Then we have the players who have shown enough to warrant them having solid football careers. ie, Petrenko, Jacky, Armstrong, Sellar (hopefully, I give him 1 more year), Martin and Cook.

But we also have another tier of players that most sides in the comp do not posess, a sprout of youth which have shown snippets of potential in the SANFL that could easily debut this year or the next, these players are exciting as they are unknown, but any one of them could be the next superstar of AFL, ie, Sloane, Mackernan, Young, Davis and Moss.

I am very happy with where we are at at the moment with list management, and its very exciting seeing young players doing well, the elite still playing elite footy and young guns still ready to debut. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've definately got a chubby at the moment.

While i applaud your enthusiasm and agree that our current list is exciting, I have to pull you up on a couple of over exuberant statements.

Firstly i would not say that Douglas and Reilly are at the peak of their careers who are showing 'solid signs of consistency and reliability'. Douglas was almost non existent last week until the second half and Reilly's form has been highly inconsistent and injury prone. No doubt there is definitely potential in these guys, but they're definitely not there yet.

Secondly the guys you mentioned as having 'shown enough to warrant them having solid football careers' have not really shown much that warrants that at all. What has Sellar shown apart from tearing up a depleted Port Adelaide Magpies side? Petrenko and Cook have played a few games and probably have barely shown 'enough' that they might have solid football careers. However, how can you say the others have shown anything without stepping onto the AFL field (has Jacky played yet)? Lets wait until they have actually stepped on to the battlefield before we give them medals.

In saying this, i am definitely excited about the next five years at the AFC.

Hi, i.m new to bigfooty(well, i been reading for a while!!) so here goes.....i think that the current list is very exciting and if you put brett burton onto current fwd line, then they look pretty good. The last three weeks have been very good, bur now its a matter of consistancy, if we win this week, we can go into break, for a well deserved rest for the kids,on a high. I would like to see some kids in sanfl push for selection, i feel we are close to best 22 (except for Burton) but its a long season and some youngsters might get tired later in year.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing at least another two new players be given a go by the end of the year.

Fair point. Another 2-3 new players wouldn't go astray, but 3 rising star nominees in 10 rounds this year is a great result from the recruitment team in the past few years.
there is a fair bit of quality in the list, but we can only hope the height from last years draft comes through.

Yeah, fair point mate, i'm just basing my thoughts on what i've seen compared to other hopefuls we've had in the past.

Douglas - Wing, suits him to a tea, free running and he can use his speed
Radar - Purely a midfielder, runs the lines well and has excellent disposal

Honestly, i would like to see McKernan and Armstrong get a go this year, or maybe one of Sellar, Sloane, Davis (for a taste of AFL football).Barring injury, i think its almost certain that McKernan will get a go.
