There are idiots in all road user groups - car drivers, cyclists, pedestrians etc. The majority of cyclists do the right thing but the minority seem to be selfish people who have no regard for anyone else but themselves. Mind you, you never see any cops pull over or fine any cyclist like they focus on cars. The number of cyclists who don't wear something bright so you can't see them - that seems a basic thing which helps everyone but many ignore it.

Cyclists don't get to me as much as trucks and vans do. You can't see around them, many of them push thier way in to the traffic and change lanes constantly to try and get ahead. Again, the majority do the right thing but so many just think that because they are big, they can intimidate everyone on the road.

lol, why does anyone care when a cyclist goes through a red light at an empty crossing? It has exactly zero impact on you or anyone else.

The reason you hate it is you would rather cyclists were not on the roads at all so you could halve your concentration whilst driving.

The shit we put up with from cars is 400 times more than what cars and pedestrians put up with from cyclists.:rolleyes:

Tell that to the family of the elderly gent that was killed on Beach Road down here.

Tell that to the family...

If it saves just one life...

It's talk back radio speak. You don't create new laws because one person has died. Obviously people can die in all sorts of random whacky ways. Sat on by elephants, slipped on dog doo doo in the park etc.

Have a look at the incidence rate.

Always it comes back to that one death on Beach Rd. Why? Because despite cycling being massively popular you can't actually think of any others.

What happened? If it was an empty crossing it means there was no one on it?

Also, I have never seen a car run a red light. Except p-platers.

Known as the 'Death Ride' (I think it's called that?). Essentially a big bunch of riders that do a certain circuit around Melbourne weekly. Cyclist ran through a red light, hit an old gent crossing, and he subsequently died.

How does that relate to an empty crossing? Theres no-one on it to hit.

If theres people there, well thats different

Anyone can break the law at any time. Advancing the logic displayed by the anti-cyclists everyone needs to wear a visible registration label when they're out in public. If someone holds up a 7-11 they will be easily identified by this.

There will be harsh penalties for those in public without a valid registration, just like for road vehicles.

Registration and licensing isn't about red lights, it's about carnage. I won't repeat my first post.

H, Armed Robbery and Anti-Cyclist are 2 different things man, Let's remember one thing here, cyclists are entering the domain of roadways that are used by registered vehicles, yes I know that the governing bodies do provide bike lanes, but at the end of the day cyclists are only visitors to the roadway.

All cyclists should at least have to pay a TAC premium (in Vic). As a car owner, more than half of my rego is composed of a TAC premium. Any cyclist can make a claim, without paying a cent in premiums.

I had a car the other morning at 6.30am come up to a STOP sign, look me in the eye and then pull out in front of me despite the fact that I am lit up like a Christmas Tree under street lighting.

No one else was around, so he thought he could do it...I wonder what he would have thought had I run into his side door and dented his drivers panel?

He sped off too quick...late for the 6.30 shift I suppose

The other issue I have is (living in the country) and the road is empty, and most cars take the wide berth...but there is always someone who wants to sit half a metre or less off you as they drive past whilst the rest of the road is empty.

I just wonder if its a smart a$$ thing to do or they genuinely dont want to give us both space?

Whenever this happens I am grateful I dont sneeze just prior to the take over.

I don't mind cyclists, by and large. They're getting exercise, and reducing traffic congestion and pollution - what's not to like? I do have issues with the lycra brigade who like to pack together and take up freeway lanes, when there's a perfectly good shoulder or bike lane for them to use. It's inconsiderate and, more to the point, dangerous.

However, I detest Critical Mass cyclists. This is a massive movement in the US and I am dismayed to find it becoming popular here. Large groups of cyclists who gather in the middle of the CBD during Friday afternoon peak, and then cycle slowly through the city as a huge group - disregarding red lights, and blocking off side streets / traffic to allow the unimpeded flow of the group.

Complete tools, all of them - completely worthless, aggrevates everybody, and gives cyclists a bad name. It does however give me the opportunity to post this hilarious (albeit totally reprehensible) video of a hipster on his fixie getting bodychecked:
