This boy is currently in Year 11 at Xavier College and down at Oakleigh Chargers. His dad, Mark, is a former Collingwood player, playing 61 games despite being riddled by injuries. Dan is a Collingwood supporter himself and performed very well at the Draft Camp:
=7th in agility test (8.32 seconds)
=7th in Beep test (14.2)
1st in 3km time trial (10 minutes 17 seconds)

His dad had explosive pace and from what ive seen of Dan he has explosive pace as well. Only the top 10 times were released to the public for the 20m sprint (2.92 or lower), and my guess would be that Dan would have easily got under 3 seconds - so his explosive pace is pretty good as well.

His reults seem to be very well rounded and he seems to have a bit of the Buckley determination in him:
"I was a bit disappointed with my beep test yesterday – I got [level] 14.1 and I'm usually around [level] 15. So I wanted to try and come out this morning, even though I was tired and the conditions were windy, have a crack, tough it out and with three or four laps left, pick it up. I was happy with it in the end. I got a time of 10 minutes 15 seconds – it wasn't lightning, but it was good enough. "

He was best on ground three games in a row at the start of the TAC Cup before the APS school season started, earning him a spot in the Vic Metro team. There he was a solid player, much like Tom Scully. Personally I think he is very much like Scully but only a few months older. His name is hardly mentioned in the Drafts and Trading Board, but I think he would be perfect at Collingwood:
- Midfielder (can play inside or out)
- Very nice skills
- Connected to the Pies through his dad
- Quick
- Very good endurance (Beep and 3km)
- Determined to be better

Just thought I would raise his name for he seems to have been forgotten, or for some reason or another he's simply not been talked about.

I think would could get him with a 3rd rounder (in my opinion an absolute steal - for if he were to be drafted next year all reports I have on him say he would be top 10 easily).

Interested to know the thoughts of other Collingwood supportes.

If we can somehow get another pick in the second round during trade week we can have a better chance of securing him.

However, don't be surprised if Hine takes him at 11.

Ticks alot of boxes, if not all.

Athletic traits, football ability, bottom-aged, Victorian and has a Collingwood connection.

Hine isn't fazed by media perception or rankings of players and Dan could be a real smoky at 11 come draft day.

Would not complain if we take him at 11- seems like a dream fit for Collingwood.

I really, really, really want us to pick up Hannebery. I think he'll be a gun, and if we can get him by upgrading our second-round pick I'd be absolutely rapt.

Mark isn't his dad, his father Matt played some football for the Bulldogs.

Get your facts straight, Matt is his father, and he barracks for Kangaroos, not Collingwood. Everything else is about right, but I doubt he would make it past about pick 30 IMO.

Well we do have picks 11 and 29! :p

However, it would be a luxury if we could get another pick inside the top 30.

I'd almost take him at 11.

Due to his age, he could go in the '09 draft, he won't, he's a monty to get drafted this year, but if he did go '09, he'd be a top 5 pick.

So if you look at it that way, we'd be getting essentially a top 5 pick, just a year early, as opposed to having to overpay for him in this year's draft by selecting him with our first pick when he's closer to our second pick in worth.

Plan B is to send Rhyce to a club where we upgrade second rounders and then use that.

I kniow you've been a rap for this kid for a while.

I'm all for trading Rhyce Shaw & Ben Johnson for pick upgrades. Hopefully a 2nd round upgrade to get us into the early 20s.

he will last to the second round pick. dont get me wrong he is a good footballer but there are plenty in front of him in my opinion. there is some attraction to him bc he really is a very smart footy player who has a great deal of time to make his decisions. Executes well which also helps. But there are guys like zaharkis, sheehan etc which I think might go before him. he could even be a 3rd rounder yet.

Could be a similar situation to Reid for us, bottom aged and given another year would have most likely appeared in the top 3 or so. So history says we've taken this line before.

Sorry mate I honestly thought he was; I was talking to a Xavier mate and he told me his dad played for the pies and that Dan was a pies supporter (so I looked up a Hanneberry that played for collingwood) - he must have been pulling my leg knowing that I was a passionate Collingwood supported and because he knows that I rate him highly

Are Matt and Mark brothers? i knew luke (Marks brother 20 years ago and his dad was my dentist) I can guarentee you that if Matt and Mark are brothers that Dan barracks for the Pies. The Hanneberry family I knew we're all Collingwood, through and through.

I am also an Old Xavierian. (Not that that really is relevant!)

Dan doesn't barrack for the pies his old man played for the bulldogs and he goes for the kangaroos. IMO this kid has the potential to be the next Buckley at collingwood very similar player just a bit shorter crazy not to take him with our 2nd round pick as he will go top 3 next year.

hahaha
just because a kid stays in the system another year doesn't mean they'll be a top 5 pick next year, this the most overused saying around draft time.
fact is a player is of draftable age, some younger than others, but all over the required age, its not like your getting someone before they're due.
what about the gun 16's that are yet to come into draftable age, what about scully, what about butcher, come off it, if a kid gets passed over when they're of draftable age for another year in tac or whatever, doesn't mean they'll be higher up the rankings the next year, it means they have stuff to work on and are NQR.
to suggest younger guys drafted this year would be automatic top ten picks next year is a joke

if dan doesn't get drafted this year ill give my house and my car if he doesn't go top ten next year

yeah, i'll look forward too it
if he doesn't get drafted this year he obviously has deficencies in his game, to suggest they will be overlooked just because he is older is moronic
kids are overlooked for a reason and it is very rare that they go on to be a top 10 pick the next year
rhys palmer the exception, he improved his game out of sight

Rhys Palmer didn't nominate the first year he was eligible, so he wasn't overlooked.

thanks for rhyce and dan. a poster here put 30 as the number, spot on i say. thanks for charity in passing him over to us. we have a gun that you don't.
