There's no way that trade would sail through unquestioned. Pick 9 for a player who can't make our best 22.
I still think their is merit in looking at taking the compo pick 14 then:

Adelaide in/Geelong out: pick 9, 28, 46
Adelaide out/Geelong in: pick 14, 32, mackay (we pay $150k pa of his salary)

We use 46 on Hampton, bundle 13 and 28 into redden and Mendel and take 9 to the draft.

Jenkins - win
Lynch - win
Mackay - bad

As much as we like to dump on Noble from a great height for 400kay, can anyone confirm that was his call? there wasn't an over-rule like Ayres to Fantasia or anything like that?

Well it can. We shouldn't do it or even look at it but it can be done.

We don't match. Dangerfield goes to Geelong and we get pick 14 as a compo pick.

Adelaide then trade Grigg or Kerridge and a 3rd round pick to Geelong for pick 9

Adelaide end up qwith Pick 9 and compo pick 14 for Grigg, Dangerfield and a 3rd round pick.

As long as the 2 clubs can demostraight equality, the AFL won't investigate.

Why would we do that though ?

I would rather us give up nothing and trade Danger for Geelong's 1st pick in 2015 and their 1st pick in 2016.

So you're proposing that we lose Danger and the pick 14 compo for pick 9 ??

Can anyone with a good memory explain how we got 3 picks (27, 31 and 68) from Gold Coast in exchange for pick 24 that we got as part of sending Gunston to Hawthorn? Was there something else involved?

I don't have a good memory, but I have the internet, Google and Wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_AFL_draft

Looks like it was a straight swap 24 for 27+31+68.

Subsequently, 27 got us Kerridge, 31 got is JJ, 68 got North Adelaide Lewis Johnston. (there may have been other picks in conjunction with these, but it gets too confusing.)

Yeah, I'm a bit surprised by that one. Seems like quite a lopsided deal in our favour.

Why would we do all that when we can demand two first rounders and a player without giving up Jack?
We can demand whatever we want, but unfortunately that doesn't mean we will get it.

Our options probably range as follows:

1) 2 x 1st rounders + player

2) 2 x 1st rounders

3) The option I outlined earlier (pick 9+small upgrade on second rounder

4) Pick 9

5) Compo pick alone

1) and 5) are unlikely, anything in between is possible.

Just out of curiosity, if Dangerfield accepts the Dees $10M/6 year offer are the Crows likely to match? Or will they take the compensation and walk away?

Depends what the compensation is of course, but we've got a lot of cash lying around, I wouldn't be surprised if we matched at all. At least you've got more to trade with than Geelong.

I think the Crows would walk, just in case Danger accepted our offer.
I'd rather give you guys pick 6 than see that happem, would hate to see the Crows get screwed here (even though pick 6 would also be huge unders).

I guess he wasn't lying in that he couldn't have actually done a 5 year deal. Doesn't mean he hadn't already made up his mind. Not sure you can really knock the bloke on this bit, this is the environment the AFL has created. What does annoy me a bit is the way he's acted on social media and with the fans about the whole process. Then he comes out and says how difficult it's been.

Anyway, no point worrying about that. He doesn't want to be here so have to accept that and make the most of a shit situation. I'm still confident the club will get a good deal done.
So is this where we swap first and second round picks again. ..

Yeah, we wouldn't match that.

That's the sort of thing you need to do to get a RFA for 'free'.
I don't think the Dees would bother engaging in a trade if Adelaide did match it, too. You'd give up huge money or big overs (multiple first rounders, etc) in a trade, but not both.

Pick 9 this year and 1st next year, you would expect Geelong to miss the eight again so would be taking a gamble on another top 10 pick, then maybe a player if we are lucky! Any trying to get the compo will mean Adelaide gets a compo pick and needs to trade evenly so effectively a compo pick only, as Ken Wood wont allow a lopsided trade!

Doesn't matter, Danger first choice is Geelong, as such we only have to match them. IF the Geelong/Adelaide trade fails, them Melbourne could be involved if Danger wants to go or risk the draft (and go to Brisbane), so you'll have to trade for him.

I think this is a possible outcome and one I'd be happy with especially comparing it to compo
Im leaning towards a switch of firsts to be on the cards.
With a switch of seconds as wel... which isn't a huge loss on second round this year by all reports...
Compo for danger.
Switch of firsts and seconds...
Would that get it done?

Not that it will happen with Patrick but I am more interested for future RFA's.

If we matched a 2 year offer for a RFA and the player chose to stay. Would the player still qualify for UFA after 10. I assume they would, it could provide another avenue to discourage a team matching RFA offers.
