I think the highlight package thing will be realised by Geelong fans down the track ... PD is a highlight machine. He can do one thing a game that just blows your socks off ... and he has improved his team game this year, but he is by no means a 4 qtr / 22 round player.

The things PD does well are elite. Getting the ball in a contested situation / Contested marks / burst of speed - he can be inspirational.

BUT - his field kicking and set shot are average, his defensive running is average, he plays for frees - exaggerates contact, does not have an ounce of bastard in him on the field.

I am of the minority on here that can see an advantage in him leaving. It might change our dynamic a lot, but not necessarily for the worse. I think it might be a win-win once the dust settles, like the Judd trade.

I dint think.we are enough of his burst of speed, he gets caught a lot for a player of his speed

For those saying it isnt acceptable to send PD into the draft.
The compensation needs to be better than strengthening an opponent with PD.
Compo pick? Not a chance. Better off sending him to the draft.
2 first rounders??? Ummmmm,.....................no. Send him to the draft.
The chances of getting 1 decent player from those 2 picks is not guaranteed. A gamble at best.

We only have to look at Gunston at the Hawks to see the problems created by strengthening an opponent.
Much better to have him playing for Melbourne with no compensation.
I'd imagine if we got 2 firsts from the deal we'd be looking to unload at least 1 of them this year for someone like Jack Redden.

I live in Adelaide, so yes I am fully aware of what he has said in the media over the duration of his career. If Geelong had performed better than Adelaide this year, his fune wouldn't have changed. Perhaps going home is a more palatable reason for leaving than telling his team mates that he thinks they're not good enough.
Ummm he is going to Geelong.....

Unless we on trade them, which I think we will - to get in some players.
We only get 1 this year though. We need to wait a year for the other.

Not unusual for a player in his first 50 games to go missing
Yeah true. He may improve these areas of his game, but then again there's things he does which to me seem rather too ingrained in him to change. He's an exciting player to watch when he's on, but can make stupid decisions and struggles with the defensive side of his game or being accountable for a player when the ball's turned over. I do like him though, don't get me wrong, and I don't wish to see him traded by default.

Seriously? He's very inconsistent and can go on his own rather than do the team thing.

He's a brilliant player but not a team one. Big difference between his best and worst

He's just had by far his best ever season
I call bs on this comment. The whole "own" vs "team" is a disgrace. He is no different from other players whose desire to get the ball is greater than others....Fyfe, Boak, Pendles...etc. Seriously?

So you're saying that he isn't someone who's worth anywhere near 2 first rounds picks, let alone more.

Yes... I know, but your point is?
I have a mate I work next to (possibility I am his boss)....who is a Geelong supporter. Besides the fact he exceeded expectations....he gets Danger so I figure no need for a pay rise this year.

In any regard, that last sentence was a joke. He would have laughed about it. What the hell is wrong with your humour?

Starting to feel pretty fond of West Coast after this year. 2 great games for different reasons and now the joint matching of RFAs to Geelong. Hope they smash the Hawks on the weekend.
Think they may be playing the same game as us. They'll get a 2nd round pick immediately after their own if they let him go, so they might as well match and try and get Geelong's 2nd rounder from it. If not and Selwood stays then I don't think they'll be massively disappointed either.

No offence, but you're a strange unit, dude...
