Poor Geelong...

Its all turning to shit for Geelong

This isn't necessarily a good thing for us either as it means that along with Carlton and Henderson there are now 3 hands reaching into their pot for recompense.

If we ended up with pick 9 and Murdoch for Danger we would be getting way unders - but it is far better than the compensation pick of pick 15 we are likely to get otherwise.

Leigh Mathews rated Danger's true value as picks 1,2 and 3 if I recall correctly and this is a case that we can never get true value for him because no-one will have the capacity to do it.

The fact that Geelong want to get other players in to their club is of no interest to us - other than that it makes it harder for us to get fair value out of them for Danger.

We will probably be asking for 2 first rounders this year plus say Motlop as starters. Geelong will probably be starting at pick 9 full stop. After that it becomes a bargaining session rather like an EBA

The one thing we have in our favour is that we have the one player that Geelong - and the rest of the comp - really want so they will have to stretch somewhat and dip into future draft picks and contracted players IMO.

IMO Geelong will have to give up their plans for one of Scott Selwood or Henderson to be able to satisfy the teams they are trading with, as there won't be enough picks to go around and getting Danger is a must for Geelong.

If we ended up with pick 9, their first rounder next year and Murdoch I would be satisfied although not delighted.

If we end up with pick 9 and a second rounder - either this year or next - plus Murdoch I would be somewhat satisfied but definitely not delighted.

If we end up with pick 9 and Murdoch I would think we had been severely short-changed but accept that it is better than the compo pick.

I don't envy our trading boys because Danger has painted us into a limited corner. All they can do is screw as much out of Geelong that is better than the compo deal.

Good luck to our team handling this trade - go get 'em :)

I've just had a moment of clarity and recognised the absolute futility of trying to discuss the Dangerfield situation with others on the interwebs. No good can come of it and I value my time and sanity too much. So here's Doris Day singing Que Sera Sera instead. It will be my last on this thread. Go Crows.

I think a 3rd and 4th club will become involved. This is how Geelong will get Henderson or Selwood.

We will receive pick 9 and an A grade player from another club (Bennell for example) plus a 2016 secound round pick.

That's good in a way. Your avatar freaks me out.

Seriously? He's very inconsistent and can go on his own rather than do the team thing.

He's a brilliant player but not a team one. Big difference between his best and worst

He's just had by far his best ever season
thats what i thought, feels like he has a another level (like ablett before leading teams)
problem in vic his highlight package looks great, but obviously lacked consistency

Cheers for the write up, but I did mean Murdoch- his fiancé studied law here and moved with him, so I assume she's an Adelaide Girl!

What's he like as a player? Sounds like he's a big unit but an outside player?
Sorry, and sorry, for some reason I thought Murdoch's missus was from Geelong. But nonetheless, Jordan is a 190cm outside mid. He's got pace to burn and a huge left boot on him. His biggest knock is that he can go missing in games and doesn't seem to read the play that well which doesn't help the cause. He has elite skills and his disposal by foot can be good, but it's usually through poor decision making rather than skill that will see him turn the ball over, often out of defence. To me he is a bit of a downhill skiier, he can do some brilliant things and really complement a good team but when the chips are down he can go missing. I hate to say it, but in a team like Hawthorn he'd look a million bucks. In a team like Melbourne however... he'd probably be de-listed by now.

I bet that is taken well on the Geelong side of things !! So now there is another heartless club to add to the list. Bastard West Coasts.

I must say I did laugh when I saw the headline - and I'm guessing that the Geelong folk are screaming about the injustice of clubs only deciding to match when they want to get RFA's for free :)

Geelong are a little bent over here, as the clubs know they have a lot of holes in their list and not many picks to fill them.

I expect them to use a lot of next year's picks for trade, and also to do stuff like give us pick 9 - but want Danger + a player in return / low draft pick. Probably also opens up the opportunity to move some of our less needed cattle on ... cough cough Mackay.

What did he say
We take the compo and not match. Then we trade 13 and Lyons for 9 and Gregson. So a pick upgrade and a player upgrade plus the compo for Danger.

As Chief rightly said, you cant do a trade with the implicit purpose of preserving the compo pick. Would get thrown out and given our history, we'd be out of the first round for as far as the eye can see.

Idiot, stick to your heat map

For those saying it isnt acceptable to send PD into the draft.
The compensation needs to be better than strengthening an opponent with PD.
Compo pick? Not a chance. Better off sending him to the draft.
2 first rounders??? Ummmmm,.....................no. Send him to the draft.
The chances of getting 1 decent player from those 2 picks is not guaranteed. A gamble at best.

We only have to look at Gunston at the Hawks to see the problems created by strengthening an opponent.
Much better to have him playing for Melbourne with no compensation.

I think the highlight package thing will be realised by Geelong fans down the track ... PD is a highlight machine. He can do one thing a game that just blows your socks off ... and he has improved his team game this year, but he is by no means a 4 qtr / 22 round player.

The things PD does well are elite. Getting the ball in a contested situation / Contested marks / burst of speed - he can be inspirational.

BUT - his field kicking and set shot are average, his defensive running is average, he plays for frees - exaggerates contact, does not have an ounce of bastard in him on the field.

I am of the minority on here that can see an advantage in him leaving. It might change our dynamic a lot, but not necessarily for the worse. I think it might be a win-win once the dust settles, like the Judd trade.

Not unusual for a player in his first 50 games to go missing

Unless we on trade them, which I think we will - to get in some players.
