That's just it Jen, you don't have to be a genius to see it. As Sanders rightly points out, his "reasons" changed as it suited him. First it was about success, then it became about family. Neither are true... it's about being a hometown hero if you ask me.

Looking at Geelongs list, I'm becoming less and less convinced that he's going to be subject to their salary parity system. I reckon a deal will get done before RFA contract lodgement because the Cats will not want Adelaide to know and potentially disclose his contract value.

If Family is that important then dont be a professional sportsman.

Bruce Djite, Adelaide United "Striker" was on AA one day when Boak was going through the decision he had to make. He said the whole "homesick" thing is a joke when you are talking about Adelaide and Melbourne. Went on to say that he can get up in the morning, catch a flight to Melbourne for lunch and then be back in Adelaide for training. He didn't actually mean you can do this, but his point was how close Melbourne is to Adelaide considering how far other sportsman have to travel from home. He suggested it is either these big tough AFL men are really babies or it is a nice piece of leverage in bargaining and/or PR for when a player moves.

For me it is hard to stomach the "homesick" story when you see his parents are at every game and his Grandad and father are cracking jokes with our board members on camera behind Riley Knight after the Western Bulldogs Final.

Why can't he just be honest and say he wants to play for Geelong, the club he loved as a kid and missed out on being drafted to? Not to mention all the individual awards he will win there as they go through their rebuild. I doubt team success is really that high for Paddy, it is all about Paddy for him. Only need to revisit his Twitter work knowing he had told the club his decision in August.

My grandad left for the UK by himself, leaving behind his wife and very young daughter, in about 1948 to be a professional sportsman. No 1 hour flights, skype, facebook etc. Then Nanna left all her family and support to be with him a year or so later to continue having their family. My mum was born in Scotland in 1950. I tend not to give a crap about Danger and his reasoning, but when I think about it, it's pretty piss weak of him and his missus. Ordinarily I'd day something inflammatory like, perhaps she doesn't make friends easily, in order to elicit a response. But I'm obviously passionate about self improvement, so won't lower myself.

Man, some of you guys are coming across as jilted lovers.
Hes a gun. Dead set gun. Top 3 in the game
Stop trying to talk him down, its embarrising.
I have always thought he was a rare breed - but do not, and never will, see him as a top 3 player.

So, you can love the way he plays if you want - I see him as a me first player (an amazing one) but not as important to team success as others.

I did see him start to play more for the team early in the year, but I think his instinct is to do it himself. I think that most other supporters who havent seen him week in and week out just see the highlights of our games and think "wow, that Dangerfield is in these every week".
Just accept that he is going and demand the club get fair value for him.
I can't find anyone who doesn't know he is gone - let alone thinks he isn't going. We will not get fair value for him - we will get something well below that - but we will in my opinion come out better as a team if the trade week goes according to our plans.
Good people dont leave good organizations.
Absolute tripe. On every level. Bull dust.

This is a completely accurate assessment of the situation .....and yes his elite standing in the game allows him this opportunity.

But why is he in the sport, if not to win premierships ? .......Crows were a better option than Geelong based upon Geelong rebuilding

Hodge, Brereton, Rioli will be remembered in folklore .....introduced as 4 & 5 times premiership players forever

Others are remembered as club legends because of their one club status

Dangerfield will be remembered for what exactly .....achieved what?

150 games here, 120 games there. Will be remembered as nothing more than a very good player for a few years at two clubs. Given what has recently come before him, he'll be nothing more than a 100 game player for Geelong. Paleing into insignificance to the premiership heroes that went before him.

That's an absolutely ridiculous example.

Are you seriously referencing the time Noble had to negotiate with someone who knew we had illegally put in writing that we would trade a player for a second round pick?

I think the point being made is that Noble knew what he was holding, claimed he was going to get more and failed to deliver against thst claim. Reality is that he probably knew we were effed, but couldn't publicly state that for the obvious reasons. Would have been a bit obvious, "yeh look, it's obviously shit, but if you knew what I knew, then you'd realise we just need to get this done for whatever will get past the gatekeeper".

Dangerfield is still gawn.
Geelong peeps still proposing ridiculous scenarios.
Adelaide peeps still proposing equally ridiculous scenarios.
Adelaide peeps still pissed off at Danger.
Alex may or may not be back under a pseudonym - depends who you speak to.
Nothing formal announced by either club.

Don't forget that outside of our board, many Geelong posters are still struggling to understand what the word 'restricted' means when put in front of the words 'free' and 'agency'. And there's still a strong view that negotiating for the best deal when trading out an uncontracted player will result in existing players hating the club and no one ever wanting to go there.

I'm not defending him. At all. Nor am I projecting.

It appeared that some of you need to understand that relationships - including careers - is not just about ONE persons career. For whatever outdated reason, some are saying they think Mardi should pull her head in and wait and til Patrick's career is over before having a say in their life together. Seriously? Time to move into the 21st century.

I think it's a fair assumption that whatever career Mardi wants to engage in, the opportunities will be greater in Adelaide than either of Geelong or Moggs Creek. Unless it's debt collection, in which case it's probably a close call.

Would you care to elaborate?

Neither Betts or Thompson were reigning b&f at their old clubs, nor would they have had their old clubs throw anything at them to keep them - Infact, that's the only reason Adelaide got Betts - They wanted Daisy more....

They don't compare to Danger leaving

Would you care to elaborate?

This is my understanding. Betts was happy to stay at Carlton, but we were offering an extra year of security plus $50-$100k more. Thommo had a horror start with injury and poor form at Melbourne. Even coming here it wasn't until his 6th season, I think his 3rd with us, that he averaged over 20 touches per game. Footy wasn't great for Thommo at the beginning of his career.

So in a nut shell the GFC a running a charity event, and wishing the AFC to show their generosity and take part

Thommo had a horror run with injury at Melbourne and it really did take him a while to get his game sorted. The PAPS were spewing we got him though. I like the fact their arrogance worked against them especially from Tredders.

Well I have heard on the grapevine GWS have already told Dangerfields management they will pick him up in the PSD draft. The list of clubs that will run a snatch and grab campaign on Dangerfield if he enters the draft is growing all the time. Geelong best be coming to the party I think!

I think it's in everyones except geelongs best interest to advise they will take him in the psd... that's how the system was designed. It's called trading. .. only geelong fans think it's not in the spirit hahaha

And that may be why I haven't posted in this thread until now. Nothing to report until something actually happens next week.

It would makes sense that the rumours are correct about clubs notifying Dangers management with the media out of the blue discussing Dangerfield management telling clubs looking to take him ahead of Geelong that they would only sign a one year deal. Hutchi was saying it as well. If I was any of Carlton, Brisbane, GWS, Gold Coast etc I wouldn't hesitate in taking him on the off chance he might choose to stay after a year.

Hang on....back the truck up.....hold your horses......according to hutchy and the rest of the geelong supporter base, they hold all the cards and we need to just accept the compo pick. Are you telling me this is just a normal trade scenario just like any other trade scenario. (eg treloar, Dixon etc)

Someone better tell geelong they are not a charity and Dangerfields father did not play 100 games for their club

Actually, instead of going the lecture, you should reflect on the fact you are quite similar to Danger. You started off defending family as a valid reason, and have now morphed that into career, to suit your own little crusade.

That said, if Patrick moved to honour Mardis lucrative retail career, I'd challenge you to defend it.

Media: why are you leaving, Patrick?
Dangerfield: well Mardi got offered a store managers job at the new Geelong Pandora shop
Media: sounds legit
So her career is not as important as his because it's not as glorified nor paid as well? He kicks a bit of pig skin around a paddock. Let's call a spade a spade.

I'm not lecturing, or at least I'm not intending to, apologies if that's how it's being taken. What I was hoping to do was perhaps paint a different picture for those that haven't considered the other side. At the end of the day, we are all in the same boat - shitty that he's left us for the other wo....club. I wonder how many are shitty with patty in this thread and then salivating at the prospects of taking Aish and Redden from Brisbane in the other? Also, not quite sure how you compare me to danger?

I like your grapevine

Excuse me if I've missed something but the Danger thread on the Geelong board has "confirms Geelong as destination" when did he confirm that??

Talking to Rowey the other night he did say that he wasn't looking at other Vic clubs, they were moving back to Moggs Creek and therefore Geelong were the only club he was looking to play for
