So her career is not as important as his because it's not as glorified nor paid as well? He kicks a bit of pig skin around a paddock. Let's call a spade a spade.

She sells trinkets in a shop

Glorified has nothing to do with it, but any family oriented person would place more importance on an $800k pa job over a $50k pa job. Stop being ridiculous.

I'm not lecturing, or at least I'm not intending to, apologies if that's how it's being taken. What I was hoping to do was perhaps paint a different picture for those that haven't considered the other side. At the end of the day, we are all in the same boat - shitty that he's left us for the other wo....club. I wonder how many are shitty with patty in this thread and then salivating at the prospects of taking Aish and Redden from Brisbane in the other? Also, not quite sure how you compare me to danger?
You're just arguing for the sake of it now. You go from family to career and around in circles more than Danger with his success/family merry-go-round. You keep bringing other issues into the discussion when you hit a dead end. Now you're implying that it's hypocritical to lament Danger's departure on the one hand yet look forward to what we might get for him on the flip side.

You fail to consider that many arguing against you have considered the other side and have rejected it as a weak excuse (note the word "excuse" rather than "reason"). You're not enlightening anyone on this point, most of us here are decent men who respect women and are inclusive with those with whom we have relationships. Yet, in that context, we still think Danger's "reasons" are weak and disingenuous.

I'd love to know what Grandpa Dangerfield really thinks.

It would makes sense that the rumours are correct about clubs notifying Dangers management with the media out of the blue discussing Dangerfield management telling clubs looking to take him ahead of Geelong that they would only sign a one year deal. Hutchi was saying it as well. If I was any of Carlton, Brisbane, GWS, Gold Coast etc I wouldn't hesitate in taking him on the off chance he might choose to stay after a year.
Well if Adelaide were willing to take the chance with Tippett and Danger by signing them on short deals knowing they may very well leave straight after contract's end, I'm sure most clubs would take that risk too. If Danger is serious about Geelong, he needs to get them to cooperate with Adelaide's demands.
Excuse me if I've missed something but the Danger thread on the Geelong board has "confirms Geelong as destination" when did he confirm that??
I don't recall Danger ever stating Geelong was his destination, but he did say that he was confident AFC and GFC will sort out a trade to get the deal done.

The homesick bug seems to be an affliction that is unique to the AFL. Can anyone name a single top class tennis player, golfer or soccer player who has said " I know I can earn 5 million a year but I'm returning to "Moggs Creek" to play for the local tennis, golf, soccer team.

The fact is that Patty wants it all.

He wants to earn over $1 million a year from footy plus associated "marketing" income.
He wants to play in multiple Premierships.
He wants to live at Moggs Creek.
And he still wants all his former footy mates and the Adelaide fans to love him.

What shits me is all the "funny" little tweets and comments on radio he made which encouraged some deluded fans to maintain hope.

He was our highest paid player over recent years, we gave him everything he asked for and he shoved it up our arse.

I rate him right along side Matty Connell as a one time B & F winner and well below all of our premiership players including Aaron Keating.

Long live the Snivelling Sycophants!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Hi Moderators, I'm flying to Rome tonight so feel free to ban me for the next 4 weeks :p.

Can someone recap the last week and a half on here please?
Is Alex back?
150 games here, 120 games there. Will be remembered as nothing more than a very good player for a few years at two clubs. Given what has recently come before him, he'll be nothing more than a 100 game player for Geelong. Paleing into insignificance to the premiership heroes that went before him.
:thumbsu: Correct .....there's going to be enormous pressure to perform

Lets hope he doesn't get 100 games at Geelong ....for father/son purposes

I don't want his namby pamby pampered brats anywhere near my club. Ok, that's a lie, but I kind of feel like I'm missing out on the emotional outbursts.

You should have tagged a couple in.

We have the least to lose. Pick 14 in a weak draft.

Compared to Geelong - lose the opportunity to bring in a genuine top 5 player.

We hold all the cards. Hutchy is just trying to set the agenda.
It's not a weak draft. The first 20 are as good as any other draft. It's the depth after the 20 that is questionable.
I wish people would learn the difference between weak and deep.

Keep following my posts ...there will be plenty of opportunities ;)

This is my understanding. Betts was happy to stay at Carlton, but we were offering an extra year of security plus $50-$100k more. Thommo had a horror start with injury and poor form at Melbourne. Even coming here it wasn't until his 6th season, I think his 3rd with us, that he averaged over 20 touches per game. Footy wasn't great for Thommo at the beginning of his career.
So it's ok to leave a club for money, but it's not ok to leave a club to be closer to family or to go home?

True but he's in the rather unique situation that he can have it all.

You can't earn the same amount of coin playing tennis/soccer/golf in your home town only, so it's not comparable. Danger can get same/similar coin without moving from his home town. Surely this is the same reason people recommend drafting home-state players.

The AFL are unique in this situation because we don't have a move away from home culture. In the united states it is expected that kids move interstate to college and become more self reliable. In soccer anywhere in the world it is expected to live away from home with many even moving international in their teens. Because the AFL is still Victorian centric it still promotes homesickness because players feel they can move home with minimal fuss and combined with the Aussie culture of "mummy's boys and excessive babying of kids" homesickness probably will get worse.

ok, so you've confirmed that to you happiness is all about money. Perhaps to Patty and Mardi it's not about money? Or perhaps he knows he can earn a decent enough wage at a club closer to his home, which makes Mardi happier? Win/win for them both.
You're just arguing for the sake of it now. You go from family to career and around in circles more than Danger with his success/family merry-go-round. Who's arguing for the sake of it?

If you can't keep up, why bother? It IS hypocritical to lament dangers departure and hang shit on him for leaving his club, and then turn around and be glad and hope other players are leaving theirs to come here. That you can't see that says more about you.

You fail to consider that many arguing against you have considered the other side and have rejected it as a weak excuse (note the word "excuse" rather than "reason"). I considered it. Dismissed it as nonsense. Danger has his reasons for leaving Adelaide to return to his home. Whether it be homesickness, which I don't believe for a minute, or because he wants to keep his partner happy as they prepare to start their own family, is frankly nobodies business but theirs. Yes it is disappointing. Yes I'm pissed at him for the way he went about it. Just like you. But I don't begrudge him making a decision that for all intents and purposes he has made with his AND Mardis future in mind, no different to anyone else who looks to make career moves. That they don't live up to your expectations of what reasons he could possibly have to leave the crows for Geelong (I'm sure none would) again says more about you than him.

I'd love to know what Grandpa Dangerfield really thinks.
I'd like to think grandad will give him a clip across the back of the head and tell him he's made a huge mistake.

What a bunch of self righteous waffle. I'm done here.

So it's ok to leave a club for money, but it's not ok to leave a club to be closer to family or to go home?
"Homesick" or "family" is the afl players equivelant of stress or anxiety in the average work place. It's a sure fire way to get what you want. At least leaving for money is honest and gives all clubs an equal chance to lure a player.

Cmon ....don't you know this industry is full of contradictions, hypocrisy, and lies ;):p

As long as our club doesn't give him a free pass and we get his value, after all it's a professional sport and he is entitled to exercise his rights for his own reasons just as we are and should do.

Cmon ....don't you know this industry is full of contradictions, hypocrisy, and lies ;):p

They just want us to give him a free pass, even though he isn't entitled to one. Hell if he could only be traded and wasn't eligible for RFA they would argue we should just trade him for a 3rd rounder and be happy with it.

Purple on TFS this morning said that things are moving more towards a match and trade and a third team may have to become involved.
Mmmm....that assumes Geelong have a player the Crows don't want that other clubs do ...or we have to get a pick, but why do we need to get a pick for Geelong?
