How do we get your first rounder if we don't match?
Afl wont like it but since a few crows dont want Mackay we can offer 1st round pick for him or any other players really and if we do have to trade 1st round and cockky would be fair deal as he has the pace you need, what ever the deal needs to be fair for Adelaide no point trying to screw teams these days

On the public record, Connors last weekend ruled Hawthorn out.

However, Dangerfield committed to Geelong 12 months ago. All the doubt is purely media spin.

So, when are you losing your draft picks?

Interesting language yesterday that he wants a move back to Victoria, not just to Geelong. Is that him saying 'if you make this hard for Geelong, I'll happily go into the PSD and go to another Melbourne club'? Because the last thing Paddy wants is to go to a Geelong (who IMO have a very average list and are in decline) without 2 years of 1st round draft picks. Pretty much goodbye any hopes of a flag considering where they're at now.

I reckon the "walk to the draft" line is an impotent threat. Look at the club he'd get picked up by. Who runs that club? The same bloke who shafted us; and Danger was quite vocal about the club's administration during that time. Last thing he'd want would to be back in a place where trigg is running things.

Brisbane won't release Aish for Jansen.

And when it comes to trading I've always thought you can't get blood from a stone.
Ie we could only get 21 for Christensen as that's all Brisbane had.

So I'm thinking this.
Cats give pick 9 to Brisbane, Aish goes to Adelaide. I reckon Brisbane would see that as a win.
Cats give Jansen to Brisbane, pick 20 goes to Adelaide. A slight loss for Brisbane.
Danger goes to Geelong.

Where is the sign that says "Opposition supporters: post at own risk of being personally attacked"? I must have missed it, because I don't believe that I've said anything worthy of being personally attacked.

Where does it say opposition supporters welcome to post incorrect information and then rant about how your club is going to do us over regarding us losing a favourite player?
I think you've had a fair enough crack

No its not enough. It was never going to be fair though.

People need to get a hold on their expectations. The player wants to leave, from that point on we are at a disadvantage. If people had listened to reason and not been so full of their own opinions they may not have still been expecting Santa to come down the chimney up until yesterday afternoon
I believe a '2nd rounder or player equivalent' would get this to slight unders instead of clearly under.

Dangerfield decision was made last year, why would Adelaide pass up Melbourne offer........

Dangerfield to Geelong would of been dealt with last trade period, the swapping of draft picks between Adelaide and Geelong (last minute) was done for our benefit.

We wanted Cockatoo and Lever....then second Maynard (Maynard didn’t quite work out)

Adelaide prob knew if we gave Geelong pick 10 and requested they picked Cockatoo so that west coast, Richmond, and freo couldn’t pick him up, knowing Lever was still going to be there for the pick 14, and we had more need for a defender this year. Now we get Cockatoo and their First pick(9) this year and maybe a sweetner...

Scared of losing out ?
No doubt Paddy is a star but he is only 1 player and if another teams comes in and grabs him kudos to them but the team is bigger than anyone player, we will make a great offer to him but if thats not good enough we move on to other targets in the draft

Can anyone explain why Dangerfield's depature has triggered the "we should have taken Ebert" debate again in the media.

People are clearly forgetting that Ebert walked out on the Eagles after only 4 years and specifically requested a trade to Port. Ebert showed that he had zero loyality to anyone but Port and would have more than like done the same to us if we had of selected him.

Well 2015 has really given the Adelaide Football Club an outstanding opportunity to grow up and stop being Mr Nice - I like it. I hope we match and don't fall for PD's hypercritical lying smirk, and I hope we use this opportunity to bring in some talent that values the club and sticks tough.

We also have now been shown the true AFL and it's Victorian bias {as if we didn't already know} the AFL should not have allowed the farce that surrounded the final round and the huge "Come home Patty" crap. The last I looked Geelong owed a fair bit of their success on the back of some SA players and have got a heap of SA talent on their list currently, they as well as other Vicco clubs need to remember that. We and our fellow Adelaide based team should follow suit and continually put pressure on "our boys" to come home. We need to become a hard arse player in this competition, we are always going to struggle against the Vic push but we need to be more ruthless and fight fire with fire.

I think this year and the events in it will make us become a much smarter more ruthless club.

The very successful "weflyasone" really didn't cut it with PD and there were more than one reason he wasn't made captain. I have a gut feel this may prove to be more beneficial to us as a club/ Looking forward to the new AFC during trade time and 2016!

It may need some tweaking with exchange of some later picks, but Aish doesnt have the same currency as he did when they picked him.

Heard from a very senior person at AFLPA last night that the Hawks are up to their eyeballs in Danger at the moment. The Cats are not a forgone conclusion, hence why Danger made it clear he wants to go home and did not name Geelong - or Adelaide didn't name them anyway.
So he's gonna do a Tippett?

Would love to see the Cats angst!!

Would their contract price us into the compo pick? If not, what trade could we get given their picks are crap!

I would be happy with that deal from Cats perspective, not sure what the sweetner would be, perhaps Murdoch or swapping 2nd round for a 3rd round

For crying out loud, how many times does it have to be said.

YOU CAN'T TRADE A PLAYER AGAINST THEIR WILL.

Melbourne could have offered us their first round pick for the next 20 years and Danger would have still said "No thanks, I'll play out the last year of my contract and then leave as a free agent".

Yes, I got a differentiation between restricted F/A and F/A incorrect.

Don't feel bad about it, it seems 95% of the people and 100% of the media from Victoria don't understand this distinction either

Agree the cats have a major list management problem. Have the most 30+ players in the afl who need replacing over the next few years, some promising youngsters, but a real gap in quality mid age players which are the ones which usually carry a side. Makes your decision to chase danger stranger from a list pov as wrong position on the clock.

Agree. It's an odd list management move. In fact, they're arguably becoming the Victorian Adelaide Crows - they don't want to bottom out, so they'll be stuck mid-table for a long while.

Plus, why don't you have an ex-mod badge?

Have heard from two distinct sources that Paddy is going to pick Hawthorn.

I am not saying this is Gospel. Just putting it out there.

BTW has Hodge ever had any interaction with Paddy on Twitter before this week?

Just that one time he had a few drinks then offered to drive Paddy home.

There's no need for the personal attacks.

There's a six day overlap period between when RFA finishes and whe the AFL trade period commences. Geelong could easily hold off it offer to Patrick on the first three days of the RFA period. Adelaide CAN'T match until it knows what Geelong intends on offering Patrick. Geelong, as part of its overall list management strategy, could have set aside its draft picks for this year for other trade targets which it has already discussed and agreed upon with other suitors.

It's a very real possibility that Geelong will swap its pick #9 for two picks in the early 20s and use both of those picks for Lachie Henderson and, say a Zac Smith. What does Adelaide do if, by the time it comes around to Geelong offering Danger an offer, there's nothing left for Adelaide to be worth risking the loss of a first round compensation draft pick for? Does Adelaide a) match the deal anyway, knowing that they lose a first round draft pick, or b) accept pick #14 in compensation and move on?

If its the former, and as you suggest a "normal trade situation" ensues, what does Adelaide do? Trade Danger somewhere that he doesn't want to go? If he's nominated Geelong and Geelong only - which he will, then he WILL NOT be playing anywhere else. And if Adelaide's demands are too crippling, Geelong walk and Patrick ends up in the PSD where no club will take him. What club in their right mind would recruit someone who WILL NOT play for them, who WILL NOT even speak to them, who WILL refuse to have anything to even do with them?

Geelong can force Adelaide's hand by ridding itself of its draft picks by way of trading them BEFORE making a formal F/A offer to Danger. At that point Adelaide must match KNOWING that it WILL NOT be compensated for the loss of Patrick Dangerfield. Adelaide forgoes its compensation pick and Patrick Dangerfield nominates himself for the PSD. Paul Connors tells every club of which whom have a PSD pick ahead of Geelong that Patrick WILL NOT under ANY circumstances play for any football clu other than Geelong in 2016, "so just don't go there".

The AFLPA will be up in arms about "restriction of trade". Patrick Dangerfield will be ropeable about having his passage to Geelong blocked by Adelaide who, despite having a compensation pick available to them at the time, elected to not accept the pick knowing that it couldn't extract anything of any notable value above and beyond the comp pick out of Geelong, and have done so just to spite him. That's not a good look.

The AFL under those unprecedented circumstances will either a) offer an additional compensation pick, possibly an end of first round pick to ensure that it most certainly is in Adelaide's best interest to NOT match, or b) behind closed door informs Adelaide in no uncertain terms that by matching and causing such a charade in the process, the outcomes which will ensue will not be favourable from an Adelaide perspective. My guess would be the former.

What will Paul Conners and Danger think when the find out Geelong has tried to call Adelaide's bluff by trading away any chance of getting Danger without matching?

I'm sure it would really improve Danger's relationship with Geelong when they put a deal at risk for a top 5 midfielder, just so Geelong can get a slightly above average key position player. ;)

It would be mighty embarrassing for Geelong to do 18 months work on getting Danger, only to throw it away on a risky bluff call. At that point Danger may decide that Collingwood looks like a good option instead, or decide to stick around in Adelaide for a bit longer.
