The same Demetriou who suspended our late assistant coach for Melbourne's tanking?

Him (and Trigg) being gone actually gives me confidence that this will get worked with only a small amount of hair pulling and toys being thrown from the cot.

You mean, suspending your late coach for "suggesting and contemplating the possibility of tanking".

Remember, according to AD, no team actually tanked.

I would take their 2015 and 16 first round picks. Except that if they get him, the 2016 pick could be #18 :(

Unlikely, but that is part of the risk.

Edit: had to read what you wrote again.

The nature of a fan. We love the club more than one player.....and don't care at all about Geelong. I want what is best for the Crows, but think what is best is to strike the most amicable deal with all involved. After all is done, I won't care about Geelong but will always call Danger a Crows legend.

What if Geelong doesn't care about Adelaide either.

You act like you hold the whip hand. All Geelong needs to do is make an offer which would stuff Adelaide's salary cap, and you would need to decide whether to match on some player who has left you, or leave enough money in the cap to re-sign guys coming out of contract, or to snag other free agents or players from other clubs you planned to get.

We have a bigger salary cap than you, I'd imagine, as we have a bunch of retirees over this year, next year, and a lot of youngsters not yet set for big coin, and under contract. We have most of our players re-signed, so if Adelaide want to be difficult (which is bad business) then I think our offer can top anything the Crows can offer.

At least with not matching you get pick 14. Sending Paddy to the draft, you get nothing.

Ah, apologies, I read code as a reference to comp. seeing as the AFL is the one with the draft and all, I'm not sure what the whole code has to do with anything. Any challenge is in respect of the AFL and the AFL only
Of course, but you're arguing public interest. Hence reference to the code is relevant.

But you see, this chest-beating is what bothers me.

As I said in another post, I actually accept the fact that the Crows want to deal (how you know you can afford to, considering that the length and money is just paper talk at this stage, and you may not be able to match after all). I know that reality is, to get quality (which Danger is) then we have to give something.

But I don't like the tone of some of this, which reeks less of "Adelaide need to protect their interests and get value for a valuable player" and more of "Geelong and Danger can go to hell. Let's screw them, and make up for all the times we got screwed. Let's send Danger to Carlton or Melbourne, and hang him out to dry. That will send the message to anyone else who ever thinks of leaving AFC. HAAAAAAA! HAAAAA! " (evil laugh, twirling a moustache and hand-wringing).

I just hope you are doing this for the right reasons, as getting better compo than the one AFL offered, rather than as an FU to Geelong or a champion who served you so well.

So even if the club were "shitty", what about the way in which your club and town went about it? - pages in the paper urging him to come home, the crowd cheering him whilst still a Crows player, signs over highways etc etc if you want to talk professionalism look in your own backyard first, the way in which you went about it warrants some "stuff you" behaviour.

Exactly how many days will it take us to match the old thread at the rate this one is growing? I'm guessing it'll get to 1200 pages before FA week.

Ummm ... we just took out a fair whack of our cap from PD. Had a few retirements ourselves, and because it's a 6 year deal we can move a heap of any offer into the distant (pretend) future. We don't actually need to pay it - we just need to say we can.

PD is not doing anything but going to Victoria - he is not staying in SA - he is not going to another state. We know this, PD knows this, Geelong know this.

If you believe that none of the risk falls at Geelong's feet, then you don't understand risk.

Both clubs will mitigate the risk, organise a deal - and all of this huff and puff will be irrelvant.

The only way I see this not going to trade is if the AFL flip out some ridiculous rule that we get awesome compo because PD is special. (which I don't think they should - or will do)

Eddie Betts and Wayne Carey say hello.
Wayne Carey? GTFO. He hadn't played footy for a year and wasn't on anyone's books. Betts is different because he wasn't a required player and Carlton didn't want to offer him a deal he would accept. Dangerfield IS a required player and we are prepared to match the deal.

I don't believe that people here are seeking revenge. I do believe people here have a lot of respect for how Geelong handled themselves during the passing of Walsh. But you cant use that goodwill to as part of the negotiations regarding Danger. This is not about screwing Geelong or getting revenge its simply about the Crows losing their best player and not getting anywhere near the compo that the AFC deserve.

The AFC supporters on BF are responding to comments that the Geelong supporters are coming up with. They are becoming angry because the Geelong supporters think that its OK for a club to lose out big time. I don't think that the AFL compo scheme is just. I don't think its right that a club can gain a player like Danger for nothing. Its simply not right.

All this talk about screwing Geelong or seeking some form of revenge is crap. We just want fair compensation.

Didn't say that you should use the goodwill as part of negotiations. But the goodwill should be used as a willingness to deal with Geelong amicably and fairly, not to screw over us or Danger as a massive flipping of the bird.

I get that you have been routed of players. Too many of them. Losing defenders in successive years was very unfair (the Bulldogs have had a similar problem).

But we are not the enemy. We couldn't make Danger do something he didn't want to do. And Danger has given plenty to the club, and now wants to look after life after football.

I am a Geelong supporter who concedes that you should get a fair deal, if you can match (and I don't think you matching is as simple as people here think). But the vitriol here towards Geelong, the city of Geelong and your champion is poor.

Look, if other Cats supporters come on here and brag about stealing Danger off you, report them. But we are not all out to screw you over.

Maybe in future years, Adelaide needs to get aggressive in other ways instead, and build up a warchest and go out and get free agents from other clubs, and get some back.

Lots of assumptions there champ

If you honestly think Geelong wouldn't do the same and match if, for example, Selwood wanted to join his brother at West Coast you are crazy.

If we could afford to match.

We wanted to match for Ablett, but the AFL moved the goalposts so far out, we couldn't do it.
