That's a big fat zero on the people involved in the contract side of things

Cmon. I've been thinking you've been quite reasonable recently, but your replies to this are simplistic at best.

They're all following the same line because it's been fed to them. If the club was going to stray from "payments structure", they would have been laying the groundwork for months with the playing group and the general public.

The fact we're seeing "one voice" is completely manufactured. They won't stray from it.

Didn't say that you should use the goodwill as part of negotiations. But the goodwill should be used as a willingness to deal with Geelong amicably and fairly, not to screw over us or Danger as a massive flipping of the bird.

I get that you have been routed of players. Too many of them. Losing defenders in successive years was very unfair (the Bulldogs have had a similar problem).

But we are not the enemy. We couldn't make Danger do something he didn't want to do. And Danger has given plenty to the club, and now wants to look after life after football.

I am a Geelong supporter who concedes that you should get a fair deal, if you can match (and I don't think you matching is as simple as people here think). But the vitriol here towards Geelong, the city of Geelong and your champion is poor.

Look, if other Cats supporters come on here and brag about stealing Danger off you, report them. But we are not all out to screw you over.

Maybe in future years, Adelaide needs to get aggressive in other ways instead, and build up a warchest and go out and get free agents from other clubs, and get some back.

Ignore the ten percent who are being emotional. No one has an issue with Geelong or Danger. We just want reasonable value. Not 100%, but maybe 80%.

Geelong fans need to be less emotional as well. Perhaps you will offer Patty a ten year, $10m deal. More likely is you'll trade, and it will be 2 R1 picks +.

Had a sook that we were going to match. Said its a perfect example of what free agency was about, Dangerfield's played and put his heart and soul into the club for eight years, wants to come home for personal reasons and should be able to. Said it with his big fat sooky Scott face on.
Are you for ****ing real? It's not like he has a vested interest in ensuring Patty gets to access free agency smoothly.

Well Chris, it's pretty straightforward. When a player puts his heart and soul into a club for 10 years he can go easy, when it's only 8 years as per the rules, he doesn't.

He can only nominate one club as an RFA the million $ question does he want to go home or is he a Tippett and want the $
Sure, but he can get many an offer. He just gets to pick one. So....he is human...

Put yourself in his place
800k for 5 years = 4 mil
For an extra year he gets 6 mil more. Sorry don't care what you say....I would not even think about it.....this is real money btw.

Not if, as one poster on our board said, we pay him 2 mil for one year.

This means that, you have to match, and pay 2 mil, which screws up your recruitment and re-signings for next year, and he leaves in a year anyway. (Hope Tex isn't out of contract next year).

We then re-sign him for a much more reasonable figure over a longer number of years. The city of Geelong will still be there in a year or two, and Paddy may be even more determined to move back there. But the compo pick might not be. Dealing fairly now means you get something out of it. Otherwise, in two years time, he goes for free anyway.

I don't want to screw you like that, but if Adelaide are unreasonable and want the world......

Google The Age and Ken Wood for the league's statement as to why that can't happen. They're already on to that and won't allow it.

Crows should seriously entertain sending pd to melbourne. 10 mil for 6 years how could you turn it down even if it is melbourne... This is all connors getting lucrative offers presented and pushing up geelongs $$$ for pd. Id laugh for an entire day if he ended up at the demons. Geelongs tears would be delicious.

And we'd get bugger all because we couldn't match.

Well it depends.

If he accepted the cats offer that we match....
Then try to trade. If Melbourne are offering a good trade and great money.
Maybe? Just maybe?

He walks and doesn't go there. They have tried to have at him three times now. He's not going there. It is that simple.

Personally, I'd say it's for your compo. Him turning down 10 million is the anomaly noted in that little box on the bottom left of the FA chart.

If he went to Melbourne on that he'd be nominating them straight up and we couldn't match. We'd get a compensation pick and that would be a bad outcome.

Ok.
Don't understand what I was saying or anything.

That's fine.

Two first round picks won't hurt us long-term. We built our three premierships on players from Pick 30 on in the draft, and only Selwood, Bartel and Mackie were top ten.

Top ten picks are overrated anyway (how many teams who tanked for early picks have gone on to win flags- that's right- zero).

So we will back in flag contention within three to five years, with our promising youngsters having 100-150 games in them by then, and we will still have Selwood, Harry Taylor, and Hawkins, and of course, Danger.

You claim to have a far better list then us, yet only finished a game and a half ahead this year. Without Dangerfield, how many more will you win then us next year, do you think?

Where will Adelaide be by then?

What you've done in this post, is shown just how clueless you are in regards to everything to do with this situation.

First, you can't offer Dangerfield a 1 year contract at $2m a year, because the minimum FA offer is two years. So you'd need to offer him $4m over 2 years.

Second, Taylor Walker signed a 4 year contract at the end of 2014.

Third, if you try that kind of thing, Ken Wood and the AFL Integrity Unit will shove a magnifying glass so far up Geelong's clacker, that Brian Cook will set ants on fire when he opens his mouth on a sunny day.

Just stop.

6 years 4.8 mil - geelong(no premierships)
6 years 10 mil - melbourne(maybe by a miracle of god premiership)
Do the math.
