Why are we trying so hard to dream up rubbish using the compo pick? Geelong will be the ONLY winners out of that.

No other fair trade (enough to pass the AFL tests) will come close to bridging the gap in value in the Danger for 14 crap. And it's not even Geelong's 14!

Please AFC, forget the compo! 2 1sts is unders for Danger…it's the minimum bottom line. I'd like to add Gore to that equation to make it a little closer to fair.

No it didn't. It was a convenient excuse at the time. Didn't you notice that when we started doing better than Geelong success in footy suddenly went out the window and his family became more important.

He would view Geelong as having no long term impediments to success whereas Adelaide has created a culture of defections and controversies.

Why isn't Connors using the compensation Geelong got for losing Gary Ablett? It would be a much more appropriate comparison than Buddy Franklin.

Also after giving Dangerfield the opportunity to complete his schooling first and then play 7 years of AFL football, you would think he and his manager would be more respectful. Pretty conclusive proof our no dickheads policy is failing.

Errr because they are two totally different circumstances and systems at play. Ablett was not a free agent. He was an uncontracted player that expansion clubs could signup as part of their set up concessions and different evaluation systems were used to value those players that those they use for free agency. The AFL will not be changing their rules to accommodate us.

Buddy Franklin is a more similar situation because he, like Danger was a restricted free agent. The difference is that Hawks had no chance of matching the notoriously stupid offer that Sydney dished up where as we do. In terms of scenarios, Franklin is more apt comparison but Dangerfield's offer is reportedly more matchable.

^^this is true. The more Geelong and Dsngers mgmt play it out in the media the more worried they are getting. If I was the AFC, like Dangerfield did, I would be saying " No comment" right up until and during trade week. Keep the cards close to your chest and keep them guessing.

People need to stop looking as who are the winners in this because it is clearly Geelong and it will clearly be Geelong no matter what the trade is, even if we get 3 top 10 first round picks as Danger is a suprstar and a top 3 player in the AFL.

What we should be looking at is which deal gives the most to the AFC and not which deal hurts GFC most. There is a tipping point. Now if we don't match it will tell me one of the following:

- there iwll either be a follow up trade with Geelong that will get us 2 first rounder and a player for compensation pick and some fluff
- or there is a Tippett like side agreement that we just don't want out there because it would kill us

Before people jump off the cliff in arms about how the AFL won't approve any such deal, ask yourself a question, do you REALLY think that we would not be running any potential trades by the AFL before decide what our next move will be? Seriously?!

We are talking about two professional clubs who are reasonable and do not like to waste time as both also have a few other irons in the fire that they would want to get over the line. While the supporters love to get involved in the pissing contests on these boards, the club are trying to agree to a reasonable trade where both clubs are "happy" with their lot.

You absolutely cannot guarantee that as you have no idea what the clubs or the AFL ate talking about. You don't even know what the proposed deal are that they wouldn't pass the integrity test.

Fegan said we will be looking at ALL possible options and has been in constant contact with the AFL since we were informed that danger is going to find out what can and cannot be done. Club are there to play by the rules but those rules can and have been exploited in the past.

I am not saying that compo pick trade is a definite option but I think it's an option that has, is or will be explored and if it has not the club is not doing its due diligence. Smart clubs find ways to exploit the rules without breaking them. All I am saying is that it would not surprise me in the slightest if this is one of those occasions as the stakes are very high for all 3 parties.

I agree but there have been times when AFL could do nothing about it because it was within the rules and went on to "tighten" the rule for the following season. Resting players is the latest one that will get changed. Remember the Veale deal where Bulldogs traded pick 6 or some such to Hawks for Veale who was on the verge of delisting at Hawks so that Hawthorn would let Jade Rawlings into the draft and not trade him to Kangaroos where he wanted to go to play with his brother? AFL brought it the rule to prevent that but I am sure that the clubs would be looking at the way to exploit the rules without breaking them.

The AFL cannot punish you if you are playing within the rules. They might not be thrilled that you exploited them but they cannot punish you for exploiting the rules. They can only punish you for breaking them.

They are rattled as we intend to match & seek reasonable value & entering into any draft is not a viable option as the Dangerfields want to get back to Victoria. There is no way they will risk being in Brisbane - that is pure bluff.

Plan b will be a trade to another Victorian club if cats don't play ball, but I doubt it will get to this.
