I feel that the most likely scenario is we'll get pick 9 from Geelong, they will say take it or leave it, then we will hold off and hold off and then just take it.
The then response from the club will be that we needed to move on, as there were other trades we needed to do and we would not have had time to do them if we held off longer with the Dangerfield trade. Our other trades we manage to do in the last part of trade week will be mediocre at best.
Hope I'm very wrong.

What I would ideally like is pick 9 and Nakia Cockatoo. But they will never give up Nakia, well if they really want Danger so bad, give us Nakia and pick 9 and all will be good.

Danny Frawley has also indicated that Adelaide shouldn't match and probably won't due to AFL pressure

What kind of pressure is there?
Seriously if we don't match it's a disgrace!
Unless Geelong ups there offer to 10 years at 8 million.

I love when Geelong supporters come and offer their learned views on a topic on our board - it is really important that we see all sides of this. Great to have a non-trolling input like this one. Really valuable.

An old has-been that doesn't understand Free Agency babbling incoherently on trade-radio is about the best source anyone could reference.

Ignoring the fact that Frawley has the IQ of a potato and has no clue about FA... what are the chances that if the AFL are leaning pressure on Adelaide to let Dangerfield go under free agency we can demand greater compensation from the AFL to let him go...

I know its untested but the AFL have previously told clubs what they would get for compensation (e.g. Frawley FA from melbourne) and would allow the Crows to leverage a reasonable deal from AFL (1st Round Compensation pick this year and next year for Danger?)

AFL pressure...right...

"Hey Crows, you're not allowed to do what is in your own best interest, and what is within the rules"

I just laugh at the comments saying that "matching is against the spirit of restricted free agency", I never realised the spirit of RFA was to pretend the rule doesn't exist and treat the players as unrestricted.

Except that's not his ceiling

If not then he's got potential to be a gun mid. I know he played through there a lot as a junior and is pretty gifted in the agility stakes. Size is the only preventative factor that I can see stopping it happening at AFL level. Got all the other tools.

Well they did it to Sydney with the trade restrictions imposed there despite Sydney acting in their own best interest and within the rules.

Seriously, if the AFL don't want us to match then they should either (a) be pressuring Geelong to up their offer to Dangerfield to something the Crows can't / won't match or (b) getting serious with the compensation pick and either upping it to a top 5 pick or 2 1st rounds (14+15).

so are people thinking we will match on the belief that it matchable transaction?

or are we simply expecting the club to match no matter what?
Im of the opinion we will match whatever we can.

Apparently Geelong are doing something similar with Selwood as they have apparently offered him less than West Coast are.

I would laugh my ass off if West Coast play hardball with Selwood as Geelong are essentially creating this mess themselves. If the AFL should be pressuring anyone it should be Geelong to up their offers so that this mess can all be avoided. Geelong are attempting to get around the restricted free agency rules and then trying to cry foul when they're called out on it.

We are expecting the club to match because Geelong are making a lowball offer to Dangerfield. If they did a Sydney/Franklin type offer, then I'd say let him go and take the compo, as crap as it is. But Geelong are trying to have it both ways - get him as a free agent so they don't have to give anything up, but do it on non-free-agent kind of money. They're going to have to budge one way or the other - either up the salary offer to Danger to prevent the Crows matching, or offer decent value by way of trade when the Crows match in order to get him at the relatively low salary.
