Not sure if it was mentioned yesterday but Brett Anderson (AFL journalist and AFLDraft analyst forInsideFooty & SENfooty according to his Twitter bio) said on SEN yesterday that his 'mail' is Danger to Geelong in return for Pick 9, 2016 second rounder and a player. As for the player he says we 'inquired' about Cockatoo but it's likely to be one of the SA boys (Gore, Gregson, Murdoch all mentioned as possibilities).

David Schwarz seemed stunned by that trade (I presume he's in the Hutchy camp ["A 4th round pick will get it done"]).

I will put my tin foil hat on here and suggest that if we get Cockatoo, the trade last year with Geelong was all about ensuring Geelong get him ahead of WCE, Richmond and Freo who all picked similar players. Then hand him to us as part of this year's trade.

Both clubs knew Patty would leave and the beginning of the trade was last year.

Ox is like so many others that have not looked at the issue in any more depth than cursory and then try to comment.

Gotta laugh at people unable to distinguish between 8 years of loyal service making scones for the CWA and 8 years of being a professional sportsman earning 800k per year.Apparently all other employers bend over backwards to assist employees to join their competitors.

I always blamed DMac for that incident. There needs to be a use of the brain, he's running past a player who is getting ready to dispose of the ball and there is always a chance the player with the free kick/mark might dispose the ball to the left or the right instead of straight ahead. If Danger had been thinking about the possibility of a teammate running into an area where he might be disposing of the ball, then he's really not thinking right because he should be 100% focused on the disposal and execution, not if some numpty teammate decides to stroll past him only about a meter away.
Nothing beats Motlop trying to smother the umpire bouncing the ball. Eloquently stupid.

Not for mine. Whilst he perhaps shouldn't have been in that area how many times do you see that every week ?? I mean was it the unpires fault that Hartlett kicked it to him ??

It was totally a Dangerfield error, I think people find it easier to blame DMac though

Talk about everyone changing their positions on Dangerfield TRADE

THE AGE NEWSPAPER:
Dangerfield has been the Cats' key target, for he is a proven superstar who will re-ignite their midfield, while also being a dynamic option inside attacking 50. The Cats have offered him about $800,000 a season over six years, and Dangerfield wants to be near his hometown of Moggs Creek.

Dangerfield's manager Paul Connors has said a trade, rather than turning to free agency compensation for the Crows, will almost certainly be the best route for the two clubs. For this to be done, the Cats are set to offer first-and-second round draft picks, although a player could yet be involved.

"He (Dangerfield) is a great player. He brings absolute quality whatever team he goes to. He is that rare combination of contested ball winner but also explosive out of the contest," Ling said.

So much this. I know some people are having trouble making the shift from weekend footballers who dig ditches for a living through to $800k-a-year athletic show ponies, but the whole "he's been loyal, do what's best for him" is borderline ridiculous.

You know what - as I didn't know the rule, I thought it was quite clever. Of course, he's paid to know the rules...

This would be the same Connors who declared the compo pick was all or nothing?

People need to take what Connors, or any other player manager says with a grain of salt. They don't care about the wishes of any clubs involved in prospective deals. They are duty bound to do one thing, and that is to do the best job for their client. All Connors wants to see, is Dangerfield to end up at his preferred destination with the least amount of worry and hassle.

Interesting hypothetical I'd like to propose. Let's say there's no such thing as the national or pre season drafts in this hypothetical.

There are two options:

(1) Take two first round compo picks from the AFL (Pick 10 this year and Pick 10 next year).

OR

(2) Take Geelong's first rounders for the next two years.

I suppose my question is about whether our push to get a good return is based purely on getting the best possible return back for Danger or whether making Geelong have to give something up (rather than getting Danger for free) also influences our decision?

I blame Dmac. Running past Danger as he's about to kick the ball limits the area that Danger has available to him. It doen't matter whether Danger hits him in the head with it, the fact that it removes 15% of Danger's available delivery area from him is rank stupidity and a simple lack of awareness.

I just see that whole 'take the compensation pick then get a lopsided trade with geelong' thing as a fast track to draft tampering/manipulation/something that will get us (and only us) in trouble with the AFL.

It isnt within the spirit of the free agency compensation and I dont like it. will be disappointed if the club go down that road.
It's what port & essendon attempted last year & we all know what the Afl thought...

People forget this.

They are competitors and I would want to weaken them as much as possible.

2 picks and a cockatoo/gregson would be a great outcome. The Geelong board would melt, and rightfully so.

You could call it unders, but it's still a high price for 1 player, no matter how good. Trading in superstars isn't an effective way to build a list. You either need to draft them, or get them as a free agent.

Does anybody have an idea how many players we need to cut if we lose Danger for two picks and an additional player?
Will depend on our other trades & how many live picks we take with the 2 rookies being upgraded, we may only draft 2 players in nd if we deem a lack of quality.

After that many years force-feeding themselves scones they're probably happy to see the back of her.

Every time Connors opens his mouth, I'm like:
