I'm not sure why you see us as the push-over tag - or who sees it that way? There is a reason to get the deal done early - it will give both clubs a real chance with other trades in the period.
The only club that helps is Geelong who have many trades on the table.... Adelaide has Hampton, who will go for steak knives anyway. No benefit to you guys at all.

I wish people wouldn't ******* compare who got what for whom.

Hawthorn got next to nothing for Buddy and Geelong got little for Ablett. Treloar may well go for two first rounders. Collingwood definitely got overs for Beams. You have to take into account that we would have received compo pick 14 if they'd gone the free agency route and we didn't match. It appears they haven't gone the free agency route, and a trade is being fleshed out. If we can get pick 9, pick 28 and Gore (for example), we'll have two first round picks, and two second round picks to further trade or use in the draft. We are infinitely better off than if we'd picked up 14 alone (ie. no top 10 pick), or made him enter the draft for nothing.

2 first rounders for GAJ is hardly little compensation. All in all I dont mind this deal, think that it is about as good as it gets. Would hope that we could have asked Geelong for a better 2nd rounder but it is what it is.

Well that might be your prediction - but you are just guessing. AFC might be working on a few more deals yet ...

One thing for sure, wish I had a steak knives business this time of year ... I'd be sold out.

Gotta begrudgingly agree with pafc... we are soft off field like we are on field...
Compare it to the Ryder trade, Port offered a 1st and 2nd for Ryder.

Ryder isn't the player Danger is. Full Stop.

Gore is purely steak knives, anyone that believes otherwise is delirious, and what's more as it stands he fills a spot on the list, that isn't the selling point.

I just have no idea why the best player on offer should be traded on the first day, that's just terrible.

Still unders, but it's getting close to acceptable. May be other things in play- such as using that second as currency to pick up one of our other targets at undervalue (and so limiting the loss).

Alternatively, and not knowing anything about him, would Jansen be worth Brisbane's second rounder? If so, we'll take that instead of 28 thanks.

Crisps in the Beams trade was also labelled "Steak Knives"

how did that turn out for Collingwood?

I agree with you on that thinking but what if we hold out and miss other players we are trying to get as we were not proactive enough?
Where will that leave us?

Do you seriously believe there is some elite player available that NO ONE has heard about? That's worth packaging up first rounders for? Someone of that quality is worked on for months, if not longer.

Or that if you quickly trade the BEST player on offer on the first day, you may be able to change the mind of one of the guys getting attention? (Like a Bennell).

I have some magic beans for you.

Your assuming we have nothing else planned.

As above, giving away the best player in the trade period without any benefit.

You are kidding yourselves if you think there is someone of SERIOUS quality we don't know about.

Whoa there big fella. I never said an elite player.

<EDIT> why are you so invested in this? Getting the deal done early is fine, we can look at other options in the trade period with a clean slate. Why are you getting so hung up about it?
