I can. But you dont see my point because you dont want too because you are one of these posters that always has to be correct.

actually, all you have posted is "dont let him be on television"

not really much of a point behind it is there?

now, try to explain why you feel that being on television is any different to having a job in any other part of society.

I do see your point, and I have stated this (Somewhere I said that I agreed in principle). But I have looked at the entire picture and realised there is a negative effect if we are to punish people for ever. You don't seem to realise this and don't want to acknowledge it.

To cut a very long story short. If Ch9 or other networks judge people on prior history, looks etc, it should be called unreality TV, not reality TV.

I usually thoroughly think over my opinions and weigh up all scenarios and variables before posting. I have plenty of opinions that I don't post because I can't justify them well-enough. On this occasion, I am absolutely convinced that stopping ex-criminals from taking legit jobs does more harm than good. Seems as if I am correct because you havn't been able to dispute this. All you do is jump up and down that they don't deserve a job as much as the next person. It seems you are the one who can't see past your point.

don't have time now to give u a full response bb

Heaven forbid the public should make decisions on people's lives. this debate is bad enough. We have courts for this very reason - so that lynch mobs don't roam the streets condemning people.

If the court is satisfied, that's the end of the story. That's the system upon which our society is based.

Ok let him get on with his life but NOT as a TV star and role model for our kids.
He's a convicted DRUG provider for christs sake!
Shows how low Packer and 9 will stoop to make a dirty buck.

On the other side of the coin, he's showing other criminals and misguided youths that you can rehabilitate and make something of your life.

Although not really relevant, Tim Allen from Tim the Toolman Show has done time for selling cocaine.

wait a sec...

2 things:
1) He's not a convicted drug provider. Read the article posted above.
2) How are renovators on a reality show role models? If they are that's a whole other can of worms. And besides, as long as he doesn't sell anyone speed whilst renovating, I think we're in the clear.

If parents allow these people to be role models for their children, then maybe the parents should have a look at themselves.

It's not as if these people are making a profit from their crimes. They'd paid the penalty, now move along.. which ever path it takes them.

I know it was in America, but similar scenarios: Tim Allen did time for peddaling cocaine in the 70's, should he slink away from public life (many would say yes but for his crimes against comedy)? How about Robert Downey Jnr? Seems to be offered more work everytime he gets busted.

I dont understand why people think he shouldn't be on the show.

he's done his time after doing his crime.

In saying that, Channel 9 obviousbly put this guy on the show, obviouslbly having knowledge about his convictions, but i feel that they have done it on purpose realizing it will create some extra interest in the show. very sinister motives in my book.

and you know what they say, any publicity is good publicity.

Exactly BT, they put on the gay couple in the first series, to cause controversy & get people talking about the show, now this time an ex crim.

I am happy that I won't be watching this series either, couldn't care who they put on there, not wasting my time watching that rubbish, it only encourages them. :(

BINGO. He has done the crime, done the time, so he should be given every chance and opportunity to be accepted back into mainstream society.

This guy was a twit if he didn't think this would be revealed and cause a storm in a teacup.

But having said that, I cannot see why he shouldn't be allowed on there. At the end of the day all those contestants will be shown to be tossers. Just that he will be a tosser with a criminal past.

I just get the impression that the public want to see ex-crims given a second chance, but they have to do it in stages. Yep, he can have a job cleaning toilets, but darned if they will let him have a fleeting bit of fame and the chance of making a few bucks on national TV. Seems as if it is alright as long as he is under the public boot for a few years at least and only then will they think of letting him move on to bigger and better things.

It's wrong, but that's the way it is.
