On a few points
  • they contract out hospital builds, often don’t involve staff in the design then pay extra to fix issues identified (we went through this with our last hospital infrastructure)
  • level crossings i will pay as there aren’t competing alternatives.
Pausing SRL won’t happen (there’s sunk costs and pausing will then leave a useless half build, prolonged disruption to movement around inner Melbourne in terms of road closures, constant reminder of a political failure, and then higher costs to complete or to fill in and abandon)
- sure no issue with cutting out some of the afl and other grants, but there might have been some analysis which concludes such grants return money via taxes and tourism and economic activity (the validity of such analyses always being open to interpretation depending on data and analytic integrity)
like i said, we don't kick up a fight so why would they worry about saying that they cant do better when you'll do it for them

I think that some hotels do sell rooms inside to investors and these could then get listed via air bnb

They do.

My in-laws book the same room at Rydges in Port Macquarie every Christmas. It is actually owned privately but is managed by Rydges. The owners use it when they are in Australia.

It's a pretty common occurence.

Speaking of: What has been your favourite place to go for Chrissie?

Interesting question mate. Port Macquarie certainly isn't high on the list but we go there for family reasons every other year. To answer your question though, I have been lucky enough to spend several Christmases in London but my favourite Christmas was spent in an old east German city called Magdeburg with some really good friends and the most generous people I have ever met.

How the hell can 800000 new homes be built in the next 10 years?
That's over 200 new homes completed every day.

Who comes up with this nonsense when it is obviously not achievable unless he is planning to include tents and sandcastles as new homes.
You are joking, right?

It's sounds big, so must not be real? Don't be a clown. This is probably a 30-40% increase on current estimates of what current market conditions would provide for, were settings to remain unchanged.

Large land release zoned for med/high density + accelerated approvals + government builds and redevelopment could easily account for that number over the expected timeframe.

Practicall you’d imagine if they can get Airbnb to collect a tax for them, Airbnb probably already do that in many places.

Airbnb are aware of the issues they cause, so know just how far they can push things where, without breaking the market

Their policy statement claimed we're on track for 540,000. So it's offering about a 50% increase.

I assumed that the room was not in a hotel....if it was, then as a hotel room, it would already be subject to certain govt impositions ....and would also not fall within scope of the proposed changes because it is actually a room in a hotel.

The cover up is on, if ever a Royal Commission is needed it is for this balls up.
But Albo needs to protect his state mates with a sham inquiry like Dumbo Dan rolls out to cover up his corruption and many mistakes.
Let's see if Dan can remember anything this time, let's see if the idiot even gets called up to answer for his actions.

I honestly don't know why they would bother with this farcical review that has aptly been labelled a protection racket.

We can be assured of one thing, though, Dan will come out of it Scott-free and all the blame will be sheeted to the Morrison Government (and LNP NSW government).

We saw, or should I say didn't hear "boo" from Albo over the Commonwealth Games fiasco, so don't expect Dan to be asked any hard or incriminating questions

How can you have an inquiry without analysis of decisions made by state leaders?

It's like building a table with two legs. Awkward and incomplete.

Wide ranging, but not wide enough to look at unilateral actions taken by specific state governments?

WTF is this????

The title suggests it will look at Federal, States And Territories.
Yet the article also states... "While the scope of the COVID-19 inquiry is wide, two areas that the government said it will not look at are "actions taken unilaterally by state and territory governments" and "international programs and activities assisting foreign countries".

So what exactly will it look at from a State and Territory level? How they interacted with the Feds????

My guess is a deep dive into National cabinet decisions.

That would be a pretty narrow scope compared to what actually happened during the pandemic. How many health orders were uniform across the country?

Fanciful to try and sell that as anything other than a review of National Cabinet. It has basically nothing to do with what States and Territories actually did.

I'm tipping this one will be completed, final report handed down, and we'll probably never hear about it.

Expecting a similar review to the Western Bulldogs this off season.

I think there are legitimate questions about one level of government investigating another level of government. I'm not entirely surprised.
someone should tell bridget ..... or, get the preacher man to whisper gently into simon bensons ear (but only if he can fit it in between his current happy clappy church tour)

Because it’s designed to entirely look at the failings of the Morrison government and nothing else.

So much for more transparency with the new federal government. This is a monumental waste of time and resources if the scope doesn't extend to what the states actually did (outside of what was agreed to at National Cabinet).

They COULD under the scope look at the states going it alone outside of national cabinet directions and the differences in outcomes.

But Albo has no intention of running an enquiry that could be damaging to Andrews a year out from an election.

Plus his merry band of sheep would just tell everyone to move on and ignore all past failures whilst launching all out assault on the already ousted former PM…
