$380 million

Thanks Dan!!!!

Is that pre or post blowout?

And are you sure its "just" 380 million or is there more to pay, such is his corruption?

We’ll never know. “As much as you know I’d like to provide a commentary let me be clear I am bound by confidentiality” Dan

What have we got that we didn’t have before? How much did NSW spend lobbying for it?
Certainty, at least til 2035 I think. NSW can get stuffed. For years they have tried to poach the F1. They couldn’t steal our Spring Carnival so they copied it with bigger pots of money.

Not money I'm happy to see spent.
But $380m if it's the final figure is a lot less than the billion plus being touted.

Not to mention the costs of going ahead.

Big mistake taking the games on that have cost a lot of money.

But once they made the shit call this is for me the best outcome.

Still shit though

Agree, but we need to add the $$ spent chasing, planning and preparing for the games. There is already talk of law suits by companies awarded contracts. Problem is the government will use the confidentiality clause to say it can’t discuss any aspect

Sunk cost fallacy is a thing, but I agree we will never have the full costing.

Meaning I still think pulling out is the right call.

I blame the costs on the wrong call of chasing the games in the first place.

To me that was the mistake, this is mitigation but not ****ing up would have been better

What a sad day to be a Victorian. Just watching Dan the Man issue the biggest load of BS i have ever seen at a political press conference. Victorians are living under the worst Premier in its history. He knows the people down here have the IQ of their shoe size and are borderline cretinous morons. The absolute rubbish he has been spewing is complete and utter BS. Victoria should have every major event stripped from the state until every single person on a public housing waiting list has a roof over their head. That includes the Australian Open Tennis, The Grand Prix and the AFL Grand Final, Melbourne can't even control sports fans at Fed Square, Andrews has cost this state its claim to be the sports capital of Australia. We are a laughing stock and any thoughts of making a bid for any Men's Soccer World Cup should not include Victoria in the process.

Big "if", Gral. You know that real cost will be far greater than just the $380m.

Not just Victorian, Australian.

Just wait for the usual suspects to come on and post $380M is a small price for saving us from an event that was going to cost $7B, and Dan is a hero for this
Those posters are the equivalent of Dan Andrews in terms of hackness!

This spud is a ****ing disgrace.

Some cost detail has been released by Dan today (he must have scheduled the release banking on the Matilda’s still being alive)

Of the $6.864B revised budget to host the games, $2B was not attributed to anything in particular but was labelled “additional cost pressures”. Danspeak for bullshit. The notes say the $2B may include “hyper-escalation driven by compressed timelines”, “major sporting code displacement costs”, “accommodation shortfalls in regions” etc. Who TF dreamt up this Utopia garbage?

Worse still, in 14 months after pitching and being awarded the hosting rights Dan will have us believe costs blew out by $3.86B through no fault of the government!

What this means is that this government cannot be trusted to pitch for major events if it can churn out gobbledegook fictitious costs to get out of contracts at its whim.

Dropping the news at 7:30am on a Saturday. Like or dislike him, he is a very smart operator.
And the Matildas playing at 6pm tonight so no one will be watching the news

If only he could use his political astuteness for the good of Victorians instead of for the good of Dan

We should try that one next year when we submit the budget requests to the government.

We need $1 billion to operate but give us $2 billion just in case…

At least burning $380M of taxpayer money to not host the games is less than the $1100M he spent to not build a freeway LOL. Imagine still being one of the few remaining Dan bootlickers.
This is a good time to bring up the comparison between Dan and Jeff again. Did Jeff ever pay millions/billions to ensure things weren't done?

It's amusing that he's bandying about that he's saved Victoria money, yet he's the cause of having to do the pay out in the first place. His plans always have a habit of blowing up in his face, causing Victorians grief...... yet he removes himself from being responsible for the stuff ups. No accountability what-so-ever!! His legacy will be how he made Victoria bankrupt.

And he's damaging our reputation as Australia's sporting capital!

What a ******* campaigner! Let's vote him out, yeah?

YEAH!!!

Bring back Kennett to finish the job!!

Dan is the guy who wants to be rewarded for putting out the fire that he started in the first place.
"Victorians voted me in to make these difficult decisions. This one wasn't a hard decision for me. I put out the fire because it was the right decision and we will save many lives by doing so."

It is how a lot of budget requests work. Also don’t have an operating surplus or your budget gets cut next year
