He made a similar point but did say he was concerned about the stats and he urged Melbourne businesses thinking about moving not to go interstate but to consider regional Victoria. The significant point he made is that the impact of increases in payroll, WC and land tax (for businesses that own their property) are yet to bite

That said, if you check the methodology, in 2022, the Australian Business Register (ABR) saw a surge in cancellations, especially for businesses with no recent activity, reaching pre-pandemic 2019 levels.

Yeah, and the other side of politics pretends that when the chamber speaks, they're talking on behalf of all Australians, and not just business owners.

It's basically the nature of our political parties.

The only difference is that the media reveres the Chambers (mostly LNP party members and supporters) and attacks Unions (mostly ALP party members and supporters).

Note that the RBA staff knocked back the pay offer, as it didn't address cost of living pressures. Meanwhile RBA management is pumping out stuff about being afraid of wage-inflation spiral. Seems like nobody within the RBA ranks actually thinks it's a problem.

I just think it needs to be said: business don't have the LNP's backs the way the union movement has the ALP's back.

And unions all represent different groups of employees. No one thinks teachers or non-AHPRA registered health care workers (such as orderlies) are overpaid, and no one (serious) thinks that construction workers are underpaid.

But what the head of a union and the head of a business peak body say are news.

I think you might be getting correlation and causation mixed up there. You can be of the belief that wage increases will cause an inflation spiral, yet still want to make sure you get a significant pay-rise.

They're not mutually exclusive by any means.

Spot on, & Pesutto has no political nous, which suggests bouncing along the bottom will continue for a while yet.

Labor ran a candidate last year and got a third of the primary vote, but not this year, so it's likely they knew something that we didn't. Either that, or Dan's cost cutting at Labor party elections in the same way he's slashing numbers through infrastructure projects and the public sector!

Dunno what you'd expect Pesuto to say to be honest...

I apportioned 90% of the blame to the LNP government of the time. The other 10% goes to Dan for lying to the electorate that breaking the contract wouldn't cost anything. No blame goes to Jeff because he was retired from politics at the time.

Would it be reasonable that Dan had no idea that contract and penalty clause was agreed to at the time he promised there was no exit cost?
