Since we extended him, his value has gone up every week.
We got him re-signed just in time!

Perhaps the club's confidence in extending him has given Curtin extra belief.

Whatever, he gives us yet another player to take absolute delight watching everything he gets the ball.

We are building our list of genuine A grade weapons to impact games.

To be fair, it was basically the one position we hadn't tried him in yet. Process of elimination and all that.
Nicks said “yeah that’s brilliant SANFL wing, great idea Murray!”
Murray “No Matthew, AFL wing”

Lions fans seem to be very ehh on Ashcroft’s impact this year

I know Dan only really kicked into gear after R10, but he’s easily become the most impactful RS-eligible player
Disregarding Dan, there’s been far better than Ashcroft around.

Was there anyone on this board suggesting that? The only really insane takes I recall were from Rowey 'we should trade him for a first rounder' and Campo ' I don't know where to play him'.....
There were a few but I understand their position

But I think if you ask them - given our current team less Rachele - is looking really good and taking Curtin out now will devalue that even with say 2 x 1st rounders

It's like he didn't really start believing in himself until he was nominated for the Rising Star, which at that time looked like one of those cumulative recognitions rather than after a breakout game. The he re-signed. Then he exploded. Next match he had his breakout game and yesterday he topped that performance again.

We've seen him transform from a boy to a man in a matter of weeks. You can see he still doesn't believe in himself totally. He still hesitated when he took that mark in the first quarter and wasn't sure if he should take the shot. He almost reluctantly did.

As good as he's been so far, with a little more confidence and self belief he looks like he could tear the competition apart as soon as September.

It obviously takes time to get comfortable and know where to run, he’s cracked that magical 20 disposal barrier and now there’s no stoping him, love that he hits the scoreboard as well as taking marks in defence.

I like him as wingman as he does get back into defence to help out.

Was impressed by both ROB getting back into defence & Max taking over the Wozz role after Butts went off.

Great team defence after Naughton got off to a flyer.
ROB was charging into the back line as soon as he heard any sort of whistle in the centre square. He definitely knew the backs would need all the help they could get.

Here’s some stats to feed on the Curtin obsession..

Since his re-signing prior to the Tigers game, Curtin’s had:
  • 2 personal best in disposal counts (26 against Tigers and Dogs); previous personal best was 15 disposals.
  • averaging 20 disposals per game (in 3 games); compared with averaging 11 disposals per game (in prior 14 games)
  • averaging 1.3 goals per game; compared with previous games in 2025 averaging 0.3 goals per game.
  • his prior best was a 2-game stretch of goal scores (scoring at least a goal); currently he is on a 4-game stretch of goal scores (1,2,1,1).

This isn’t a guy who’s realising his potential, but a beast transformation from a guy! He is literally doubling his output since his re-signing! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this happen EVER. And the scary thing is that I think he’s still got an extra gear or two for this season.

Just to put into context the above, doubling an output of prior averages is Herculean proportions, particularly in a 3-game stretch.

It’s akin to a midfielder averaging 20 disposals, gets a contract extension, then he comes out and gets 40 disposals average in 3 games right away.

It’s akin to a forward averaging 2-3 goals per game, gets a contract extension, then he comes out and gets 4-6 goals average in 3 games straight.

TLDR - he’s a mutant!

"let's go to Curtin cos he'll get it done for us" is the highest praise you can get imo. That's what everyone should be striving for.
We’ve actually seen this, he’s become a bail out kick on the wing, because he does get it done for us.

Alongside Dawson he's an absolute weapon to have through the middle of the ground as a marking target. They aren't the only tall midfield options in the AFL but they might be the two best non-ruck contested marks who do play in that part of the ground. Curtin has 22 for the year and Dawson 21 - everyone above them is a key forward, key defender or Max Gawn. Two of the forwards are ours as well.

Some of us were saying this earlier in the season.

Perfect player to kick the ball out to in a one on one.

Good to see the club are now using him to advantage as a heck of a weapon.
