agreed. we got him for such a mininal price - effectively our future second rounder only (perhaps pick 30-35 next year) compared to an Eagles likely pick 1-3 and Horks 2-6.I think they'd be pretty upset after knowing what deal GWS actually took
I wonder if the analysts put a value on the time decay of their playing listsagreed. we got him for such a mininal price - effectively our future second rounder only (perhaps pick 30-35 next year) compared to an Eagles likely pick 1-3 and Horks 2-6.

Do you mean "is there an equivalent draft cost to trading back a year, every year"? I think somebody has quantified that on here before, and the answer was definitely yes. I just don't know who posted it and where they posted it sorryI wonder if the analysts put a value on the time decay of their playing lists

Could play a part mate. But all up I just feel we got very very lucky. Time will tell but wouldn’t surprise me to see Curtin the second best player from this draft. Let’s review in 5 years time..I wonder if the analysts put a value on the time decay of their playing lists

What it also tells us is that both clubs rated Curtin at least worthy of a top 5 pick as both clubs would not reasonably expect their F1 to be outside next years top 5 in a strong midfielder draftAnd fair to say on paper West Coast and Hawthorn offered better deals than us too.
Yep agreed esp for GWS who are right in the premiership window. In 2-3 years time some of their elite mids will be fading. Coniglio, Whitfield and T Greene all 30+ next season..Yes
For me, without doing any research, I wonder if GWS look at the age profile of the players on their list and think they're better off getting in a couple of quality players immediately .. rather than a top 4 pick 12 months down the track?
Not necessarily doing it year on year
I legit think, based on GWS's form in the back half of the season, that they can be a legit premiership contender in 2024Yep agreed esp for GWS who are right in the premiership window. In 2-3 years time some of their elite mids will be fading. Coniglio, Whitfield and T Greene all 30+ next season..
I did have someone with apparent Weagles Board connections let me know Freo and Weagles had Curtin rated top 3. I emailed old mates Reidy and Silvers again (yes apologies for those who get annoyed by me doing thisWhat it also tells us is that both clubs rated Curtin at least worthy of a top 5 pick as both clubs would not reasonably expect their F1 to be outside next years top 5 in a strong midfielder draft
) and passed this info on amongst other things. They knew of the same info recd in one of the return emails from both GentsYep absolutely. Kingsley apparently told their Board it would take 2-3 mths to bed down the new game plan and after that they were probably a top 2-3 performing team in the second half of the year and very unlucky not to beat Pies in prelim.I legit think, based on GWS's form in the back half of the season, that they can be a legit premiership contender in 2024
A better start to the season and maybe a top 4 finish, who knows
I would think if he comes in next year and really leaves a mark, they will be trying to get him to extend before the end of next year and if we really do have a warchest, they would be able to put a pretty substantial deal his wayI did have someone with apparent Weagles Board connections let me know Freo and Weagles had Curtin rated top 3. we will need to get ready for both WA clubs to try and raid Curtin - I imagine after the first contract even before he gets too entrenched here. Luckily for us we have a very young and exciting contending group with so many blockbuster games coming up. Great time to join our young talented group.
that said, wondering what flexibility we have to even start with getting a small extension (eg even if just one year initially… clearly the longer the better assuming all works out as planned). Can we say move his third year of current rookie contract up to say 500k assuming he signs for a 1-2 year extension at similar or higher amounts?). Good investment if so…show the boy the money
We played him up forward late in the season didn’t we? Maybe that was a dress rehearsal as we knew McAdam was gone.
I meant SANFLHalf back flank/wing if i recall.
We've pretty exclusively used Cook as an outside mid at AFL level.
I dont understand this from North - they wanted Reid who was always going and went west yet didnt see the potential long term play by taking CurtinKangas apparently scared by go-home factor) before the far superior deals (Eagles and Howks F1) that GWS knocked back because they wanted to stay in the draft to get favoured prospect as feel they are close to a flag.

But GWS like us were keen to add 1st round players this year... not next year... & the other 2 sides were wanting to use their futures for trading not this year's 1sts.And fair to say on paper West Coast and Hawthorn offered better deals than us too.
Well, from all reports Clarkson did........I dont understand this from North - they wanted Reid who was always going and went west yet didnt see the potential long term play by taking Curtin
If Curtin projects as much as said then Reid for Curtin could have been cheaper for North in a few years rather than 3 x 1sts
I was surprised WCE had their F1 still on the table for Caddy. Curtin is totally understandable..top end, WA boy, can play anywhere etc. Caddy not in the same talent band to the eye from the highlightsBut GWS like us were keen to add 1st round players this year... not next year... & the other 2 sides were wanting to use their futures for trading not this year's 1sts.
West AdelaideOr O'Sullivan ?? .....more likely given McGovern is nearer to the endI was surprised WCE had their F1 still on the table for Caddy. Curtin is totally understandable..top end, WA boy, can play anywhere etc. Caddy not in the same talent band to the eye from the highlights
