Was confident Curtin would be a player and stay long term until he got the No. 6 guernsey

Here's a list of former number 6's.

Clayton Lamb
Tony Modra
James Byrne
Ben Nelson
Fergus Watts
Jon Griffin
Jack Gunston
Luke Thompson
Jake Lever
Bryce Gibbs

A bunch of misfits, journeymen, castoffs and leavers apart from Modra, and even he went west to Freo.
Losing the faith a bit, but at least he wasn't pick 6 as well.

3 months off after our last game before pre-season training starts. this seems to be getting longer and longer EVERY year. Now only 3-4 weeks of training before another week or 2 off over XMAS/NY with then really only 2 months before the first game. Players seem to be getting a lot more time away from the club at the same time salary cap explodes. Clearly they (overall) are keeping themself in good knick however during this time so self motivation is key
So long as the players are doing the running work by themselves I don't see it as a bad thing.
Getting time away from spotlight and a decent holiday in each year is healthy.

Having some time away from the Club regimentation is good ....players breathing space from being told what time to wake .. what to eat, basically organising their days

As you say, as long as the players are putting the work in, I don't see any problems from a fitness POV .....and most do put in that work these days ....the pay is too good, that's the incentive ....oh, and the AFL lifestyle

Im pretty sure back in the day, there were a few players that were smashing buffet's over summer before preseason began.

IIRC DJ and Johncock turned up to preseason more than just a few kilos over playing weight.

Its also different strokes for different folks.

I remember a few years back seeing players at my gym working out.

What you said though rings true, in that you need to do what is healthy for you both physically and mentally.

Curse has got to be broken at some point.

Curse-in

My god the pressure on this kid already is absolutely insane!

One day into pre season and already dooms day post about a cursed number.

Can everyone and that includes the media of Adelaide chill out and let this kid put some work in before being labelled?

A curse is the biggest load of bullocks.

Pathetic that some media are even mentioning it.

I saw Modra in “Joplins” at about 2am on a Thursday morning in the middle of the footy season in the mid 90’s.. he was sitting at the bar alone drinking bourbon and coke’s.. I definitely remember there was a crows game on that coming weekend too and he played.
he seen me and waved me over for a chat and bought me a bourbon and coke!...

i used to see him out in the surf a lot down at Victor.. so he wanted to have a chat about surfing..

It was a lot different back then..

Its a slow newsweek and everyone is overthinking the draft because of it. There is no extra pressure on Curtin. He would have been advised 12 months out through all the development squads and then combine the pressure is on when you get drafted. However, the Crows themselves internally would be looking after him and no doubt provided no expectations.

The comparison to McAsey was not a good one by Cornes. McAsey came right in our darkest moment and we needed to develop players in a hurry and there was no competition for spots. Nicks was playing everybody. Curtin, will not get a golden pass into the team for round 1. He will have to prove himself during preseason matches he can hold down his spot.

Whats happened to it?..

I havent lived in SA for 20 years..

wednesday nights at Heaven used to be awesome in the mid 90’s.. they had this big fat gay dude that used to DJ every wednesday night and he’d play mostly 70’s stuff like boney m and abba and all that sort of 70’s dance crap.. wasnt me and my mates type of music but the women absolutely loved it.. dance floor was always packed with hot chicks!.

the crowd seriously was mostly female uni students and bugger all blokes around as they all had to work the next day.. once Heaven closed for the night everyone would spill into Joplins to continue drinking.

Good times.

From what I can understand, the urban development of apartment buildings around that end of Hindley Street killed Heaven. Residence complained about the noise and the liquor licensing board placed strict rules around times of operation. Which ultimately killed the business.

I think nearly all nightclubs from that time period suffered the same fate. Not sure whats around now though.
