Be interesting if Petty has a good season in 2024 as a forward as that’s where Melb will play him

I’m not sure we’ve committed to playing him anywhere , especially since he’s not even on our list !!

Ps good call on Windsor ! Melb we’re all over him
MELB have already said, Petty will play FWD in 2024

I still believe he's a natural backman .....and Curtin can have more impact in other non-defensive roles

Yes that’s what I’m saying re petty playing forward , if he has a good season playing forward and Tex is near the end can see him forward for us too

We aren’t locked into playing him in a specific position as he’s not even on our list !

Curtin or Petty FWD ? .....who has the greater impact as a Fwd ?

Impossible not to get hyped by this pick - not just the talent but the price.

Issue I guess is for all out “tall midfielder!” hopes, we need him next year in defence as our Murray ACL replacement. Big ask for a rookie

Has anyone said it and he’s not embarrassing?

Some of us think writing to the station and sponsors is just a tad over the top with the hysteria
you are right, it was an over-reaction and not something I will bother Silvers with. If he responds to my emails a few times per year on real matters of substance I feel fortunate and wont push marginal crap into his inbox wasting his time.

Nobody had mentioned contacting sponsors though had they - not sure where this came from?

And re Rowey, the obvious answer is just to listen less as you and others pointed out. I wasnt personally offended its more I just care about the new players perception of the club and city of Adelaide as first impressions in life are very important and often stick (deciding if you like someone within 30 seconds of meeting them etc). Just not sure Rowey is someone you want speaking to new key recruits as an introduction to Adelaide but...

Time to move on

Eh, I don't know if it's that big of an ask. Stopper is one of those things that you have or you don't and Keane/Butts/Worrell should at least cover a fair portion of the load.

It probably just results in Worrell getting more responsibility as a CHB.

Petty playing forward in 2024 could be a good thing for us. If anything, our KPF stocks are even weaker than our KPD stocks. At least our KPD stocks are all relatively young, and unlikely to be going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

Our KPF stocks are Walker, Fogarty, Thilthorpe, and Himmelberg.
  • Walker is now a year-to-year proposition, and every year could be his last. 2023 was his career best season, so there's no argument whatsoever about him holding his position on form. But time waits for no man, and the end can come very quickly for AFL players. 2024 could be his last year, or he could play on in 2025 (and maybe even 2026). We just don't know, but we do know that his remaining time is short.
  • Himmelberg is almost certain to depart, probably as a FA, at the end of 2024.
  • Thilthorpe continues to tease us with glimpses of greatness, but has yet to show consistency. His talent is undoubted, but he really needs to start stepping things up from 2024 onwards.
  • Fogarty is an enigma. His form in the back half of 2022 was outstanding, but he failed to back that up in 2023. To be fair, he suffered a knee injury early in the season, and his confidence probably took a hit as a result of returning before he was 100% fit - and we know that confidence is very important to him (his time with a sports psychologist was one of the keys to unlocking his talent in 2022). Fingers crossed 2024 sees a return to his 2022 form.
We only have 4x KPFs, and there's a strong possibility that 2 of them could be gone at the end of 2024 (though I hope Walker continues). The other 2x KPFs are young, and inconsistent.

Adding another KPF is probably going to be critical to our success from 2025 onwards. I know we're going to be drafting Welsh next year, but he will need time to develop - we shouldn't be expecting him to make a significant impact straight away.

I also think TT plays his best footy as a very high half forward - the more he exploits his mobility as a marking option between the arcs the better imho

Yes ....we've pretty well committed to Petty ...as a Backman

Free's up Curtin

Melbourne will stand firm again.

We should not offer 2 first rounders again for petty but rather a take it or leave it 1st rounder as Melbourne are only going to get 1 first rounder for petty the year after.

Kills us when he spins around up on the wing with his dinky 25 metre inboard 9 iron kicks

This is great! Pick the best ones and let the others leave for first round compo
The only way we get first round compo is if they play lots of games. Ie if we lose the ones we actually want to keep.

The more likely scenario is we lose whichever ones we opt not to play for peanuts.

Exactly, with his speed and hands above his head and at ground level, agility and kicking, he’s a nightmare match up for defenders. Keep himself moving and they’re constantly wondering whether they need an extra man to help cover him

So, looks like Big Dan might be the Big Fish we’ve been looking for, in a way that Big Fischer couldn’t be.

Rewind a few years, we’re back to having a big top 10 talent who we can probably play round one or so, hoping for that instant lift that raw talent can give, or at least after a few games.

Our team looks pretty different than it has for a while - slowly stocking up on a list that just might achieve something

Yes mate. I wanted to hear from our new highly rated draftee. Could well end up being our most elite player - Weagles offering a very likely top 1-3 pick next year - and we still knocked it back.

Aren’t you and others embarrassed by Rowey?
Yep the bloke is a joke.
