I wonder how many pick 4s spend half the year playing seconds.

Look at the most recent gf teams. Most either play 3 tall forwards or have 2 plus an extra ruckman.

2024

Brisbane = Daniher, Hipwood, Morris
Sydney = Amartey, Mcdonald , McClean

2023

Collingwood = Miochek, Cox, Frampton (McStay injured)
Brisbane = Danhier, Hipwood

2022

Geelong = Cameron , Hawkins , Blicavs*(second ruck)
Sydney = Franklin, Reid, McClean

2021

Melbourne = Brown , McDonald, Jackson* ( second ruck) (+ Fritsch)
Footscray = Naughton, Schache, English*

2020

Richmond = Riewoldt, Lynch
Geelong = Hawkins , Blicavs* (don’t remember if anyone switched forward but had a very tall defense)

2019

Richmond = Riewoldt, Lynch, Soldo*
GWS = Cameron, Finlayson, Himmelberg

2018

West coast = Kennedy, Darling, Vardy*
Collingwood = Miochek, Cox

2017

File not found

2016

Footscray = Cordy, Boyd, Stringer
Sydney = Franklin, tippet, Richards
So we are not the preferred model, preferred model is 2 good talls and one shit, we have three good talls

McDonald is a key position player, they always take ages to get games.

Wasn’t Wardlaw injured?
Ash play any of his games as sub?
Duursma actually any good?

Drapers not even going to play half our games and the majority have been sub.

Had a strong feeling we’d regret not taking Langford. Cleary a lot more to play out. But geez he projected well.
Do you seriously think Langford would be getting the same game time with us as he is with Melbourne?

Curtin’s marking and agility is starting to look like a weapon. It’s been great to see him put all the bits and pieces together. Can see him as a starting mid in 1-2 years, along with Draper.
Then it’ll be: The drapes and curtains show.

You can really see what he has the potential to be and that is one of the best players in the comp once he really hardens his body and has a top end fitness base. This year he has started to realize he is strong physically and can dominate a contest.

Everyone thought he would be a beast, the only reason he dropped was because he was a work in progress. He is certainly catching up fast to his peers who went early in the draft, You would have to think Adelaide playing the longer game and selecting Curtin is going to pay huge in the long run and he will probably end up being alongside Reid as the best from his draft year, maybe even rated better. Im calling it now, the kid is going to be ranked elite sooner rather than later.

I wonder how GWS are feeling now, passing that pick on to us and then grabbing a small guy that doesn't look very good

Twomey reporting on Gettable that Curtin's on the verge of signing a two-year extension (until the end of 2028).
That's not as long term as I was hoping, when the phrase "long term" is wheeled out it generally means 4+ years. There's been a few articles stating he's looking to stay long term...... 2 years is nothing these days wonder if it'll have triggers in it for more years?

I would think he'll be worth a lot more in 2 years so he will look to maximise it.

Hedging bets a bit with a 2 year deal. Gives him a quick out back to WA if the stars align, but he's young too, so it's not abnormal he would want to build up some credits in the bank for an early big contract.

If he wants to get to West Coast makes sense. 3 years they should start to be on the up. If not, can stay in SA.

I’m happy for another 3 years after this year. Will see where he is at and give the club plenty of time to work on him becoming a crow for life.

Watching Curtin playing his defined Wing role, I see traits similar to Dawson.

Long term, he is the Dawson replacement. Taller, but similar skillset.

Ability to play anywhere, with high Footy IQ to impact.

I highly doubt they care. It's the draft, you're going to get calls wrong because it's an inexact science and a large portion of players making it is falling into the right environment for their skillset.

Its good news...I would have loved it to be a much longer term contract but still, we have him for the next 3 years at a minimum.

On current trajectory the next contract he signs will be the biggest of his career, so theres not really much incentive to sign up to anything longer now aside from security.
