It is basically criminal that Bont doesn't have 2 Brownlows and Cripps does
disagree, they are the best judges we have but should be allowed access to stats to help them. It’s an umpires award, staggering that it has the meaning that it does. Why would being an umpire mean you have the faintest clue about who the best player on the ground is. And surely they’re flat out doing their job, comfortably the least qualified judges of everyone watching the game.
Why do stats matter ??disagree, they are the best judges we have but should be allowed access to stats to help them.
every award has some pretty big flaws
AFL MVP is voted by players who the majority do not watch many matches.
AFL Coaches - while probably the best overall has certain coaches playing favourites regularly.
Herald Sun/other media awards - have some horrendous votes sometimes.
overall the umps get the right winner most times which shows they do an okay job, there are reasons certain players do better than others, they usually have far less competition for votes and are around the ball. Its nothing more than that
Was good to see the coaching group try different positional moves in thr last when we had the game in thr bag.Absolutely did not look out of place when he played in the middle in the last quarter
I think they should all have to rematch the game afterwards, looking at both their umpiring and then giving the votes taking into account what they saw live and via the telecast.disagree, they are the best judges we have but should be allowed access to stats to help them.

Dempsey won it in his third yearIf he wins the RS obviously I'll be happy but honestly I think it should only be open to first year players
If he wins you get two players from the same draft crop winning the award - I dunno just don't think it's quite right
But will take it hahaha
Dempsey won it in his third year
He beat Jeremy Cameron who was in his and GWS first season. So did Talia, if I recall correctly
He beat Jeremy Cameron who was in his and GWS first season.
That does sound like Toby. And wasn't it only cos Toby Green got suspended that he didn't win it as well ?
In the coaches votes as of round 19, Dan Curtin has 18, Murphy Reid has 7 and Levi Ashcroft none.
That should help show he is in the lead with the Rising Star.
I think that’s why Ashcroft wins it - has he played a bad/quiet game this year? It's actually an interesting debate. Curtin was alright but nothing special for the first 14 rounds of the year. Then over the last five weeks since the bye, he has absolutely exploded and been one of the best players in the entire competition, hence his 18 coaches votes. Even then, he had a down match against Melbourne in that period. So he has played four exceptional games, averaging 24 touches and 6 marks, and kicked 4 goals over those four games. For the other fifteen games, he averaged 10 touches and 4 marks, and kicked 6 goals (includes one game subbed off).
How does that compare to a player who has been at a consistent high level for the entire season? Who is the deserving rising star winner? The consistently great player, or the player who started off average and then put in an excellent month?
I think it's still a live contest. If Curtin finishes the rest of the season at the same standard he has set recently, he'll get it. If he drops off over the next few weeks, he won't.

That award is given out in most American sports. Rookie of the year. Only voted on at the end of the Season. If he wins the RS obviously I'll be happy but honestly I think it should only be open to first year players

There has to be a bit of projection in the rising star. Do they project to be the best because their best far outweighs the other candidates? It's actually an interesting debate.
