More potent i'm not so sure, but better structured definitely. I think McStay will help our aerial presence, bring the ball to ground, which brings our forward pressure into the game. I think that helps us control field position and get repeat looks. What McStay brings beyond goals could be important. That's my hope anyway.
I feel Mcstay will play better being the main forward and even if he isn't kicking a heap of goals, the addition of both him and hill will have a flow on effect allowing others looks at goals. If mcstay doesnt bob up checkers will etc. This in turn makes us more potent imo.

There's your big bodied tall forward. He won't be All-Australian but he'll be an important structural piece. He makes us better. Welcome aboard Dan!
Mihocek’s going to be pissed! He’s been toiling away for so long, then we bring in McStay who is at best equal in quality and on more money…

Different players.
McStay will compliment Mihocek.
I can see McRae using our enhanced forward group on a horses for courses basis.

They are pretty similar in my book…similar size, not overly athletic. I don’t see a point of difference, having said that I think it will work…two is better than one. But my point is Mihocek should be pissed.

Having good depth isn’t a bad thing. Cats had some good players not play in the GF.
Yep, but I'd rather using 'capacity' (salary or picks) to invest in areas in the 22 where we are weak instead of having good quality just outside the 22. Geelong didn't have too many weaknesses on the field.

I think Mihocek will be stoked there's another big body to share the load. I think it's pretty likely Mihocek has a juicy contract too. Freo were sniffing around at his last contract and my bet is we ponied up

I personally believe the package is too generous given what we are likely to pay Melbourne for Grundy.

I hope to be wrong and I’ll back in the recruiters.

He could end up being MaCgnificent for us. His utility capabilities could very well be what we really need…

I do agree somewhat but we gave Checkers an opportunity when everyone else kept passing him over. He's paid us back but he is better off for Collingwood taking a chance on him than if we didn't.

What do you mean? We don't know what he is actually being paid, but the compensation Brisbane received would indicate that it's less than what was being rumoured.

I just don't get the plans for how it all fits together with McStay, Krueger, Mihocek, Johnson, and Elliott (and that assumes only one of Cameron and Cox play in the ruck each week and not dep forward). The ball doesn't get in there enough to keep them all productive!

And before you say 'Kreuger or Mcstay will go key back', well, we will get Frampton also, so I'm not sure how we see all of them fitting in! And I don't think we've recruited any of these guys for depth only.
We dont fit them all but it gives us depth and we look so much better.

You can mark Elliott, McStay and Mihochek as certain starters and the backbone of our forward line. Johnson and Kreuger will be trying to become best 22 but neither are there yet so they can duke it out. Same as the group of McCreery, Hill, Ginny and Ollie if he stays, it will be a battle to have them all play if all fit. Maybe using Cox and Cameron can still work in 23 esp if 5th interchange comes in.

Down back expect Dean to be the most likely to slot into a KPD and we need someone to do that. Frampton and Kelly depth currently. Kreuger likely to better down back than either of them and maybe Dean also so I think he could take that spot if he doesnt get a forward spot. We look much stronger with McStay and maybe Dean or Kreuger in the 22.

I bet it’s not anywhere near 650k over 5 years though.

I bet ya McStay isn't on that. It's media gravy to make a more saucy story. The compensation pick Brisbane received suggests it's bullshit.

I read a break down somewhere in the net. It was pretty compelling.
The gist was that Mihocek runs into the forward 50 and often takes his marks running toward goal, where McStay is more a stay at home lead up forward.
Many times this season we have gotten the ball too far up the field and their was no-one ahead of us in the 50 to kick to, players kicking to open space and then a foot race.

Can't win the big one with just one key forward--who is a tad undersized to boot....proof is in the pudding.

Sydney couldn't win it with Franklin (199cm), Reid (196cm), and McLean (197cm)..... just saying.

That's exactly why we got McStay, he will play deep forward and Hill will the one in the foot race, it's starting to take shape

Mcstay plays taller Mihocek will benefit for having him in the team.

Reid was injured an never should have played, the tide turned for us when he went off. Franklin doesn’t play like a key contested marking forward and I don’t know anything about McLean.

The point I think is that quality KPP’s a la Travis Cloke are hard to come by, and if you have one you’re a far better chance to perform in finals.
