Ablett and Chapman might both have to play full time mid this week with one of the other smalls relieving them.

What's he kicked about 35 goals in the two's? I know he has the most of anyone in the side. He's earned a game.

Not sure...Benny J has also been kicking some bags so he's close to that tally. Anyway, regardless of which one has more, Menz has played great considering his interrupted pre season.

And yes-more midfield time for Ablett...that is the obvious conclusion to be drawn from Menzel in rather than Hogan.

Great news for the kid.

I've only seen him play twice, but from what i've seen, he has simply amazing skills.

Makes the game all the more exciting doesn't it?

Good to see a first year player making his way into the team!

Question - whats his pace like? Seems the quick sort.... which makes the team look pretty pacey with Wojo, and Hunt coming in - which I'm all for.

I watched him in the vfl last w/e and he looked pretty good. Nice long kick. Don't think he had his best game, but I'm glad he's getting rewarded for a good season. :thumbsu:

Not quite the right comparison. Hunt is mini Wojo because he has jet like straight line speed, you can almost see the steam flying behind him. Menzel doesn't have straight line speed, he has circle speed, that is he has a really small turning circle and he can do it just as well on either side, hence why he kicks goals. Very creative. Reminds me of SJ, although it's probably far far too early for that tag.

The goal kicking machine gets a gig! Cool.

Laughed a little at the article on the Geelong page, listing all the debutantes we've had this year but forgetting Pods

I know...what's with all the bloody age discrimination in this country!! First he can't win the rising star, now we even forget he's a first year star

My bad... wasn't trying to compare them, just got into my head that Menzel was quick and that him with Wojo and Hunt made our team quicker than our average - oh, and there is that guy Varcoe whose been getting a run.

Carn Menzel - kick a bag on your debut, I dare you.!

hoping hogan comes in for bartel, seriously

.. he has circle speed ...

Like it. What they call it at the Draft Combine is agility , I think. Wonder if we did a study on the guts of our side , do we rate that higher than just outright pace. Its handy to have both obviously , but I'd say with the way the game is played now there has never been a time when agility is more valuable. The ability to allude , to wring foot an opponent , to think on your feet makes it a bit easier in congested playing field.

Having said that , I don't think Menzel is slow. What role do we seeing him playing? A bit like Duncan earlier in the year?
