Denzel - my favorite behind jimmy - all the best with the recovery mate.

Vinum - you are the lowest of all low, other supporters are so kind to come onto our board and wish Dan, our team and our supporters well wishes and all you can do is belittle our strong culture? I may be a newbie by status but have been reading a very long time and tbh you don't display the hoops mate...

Well enough of that - recover well Dan - you still have the fire within you - all the best!!!!

Will Regards to Vinum, he's always like that.. Always Pessimistic about the cats but agree that was a low blow from him..

Menzel should never have come back so early.

I heard Shaun Rehn say that his doctor told him (after he did his second ACL at Adelaide) that an ACL is a TWELVE-MONTH layoff. Not 11, not 10, 12 months.

I was a bit surprised when I heard that Menzel would be back so soon, but thought that our medical team would get it right.

I give credit when credit is due, and our medical team have been great at keeping our players on the field over the last five years. But they have been shocking this year. We have had three late withdrawals, and two players injured in the VFL. We have had our two runners injured BEFORE the season. It seems our medical team have dropped the ball with Menzel, and they made the call that he was ready, so they have carry that.

Also, players have taken longer to come back this year from injury. I am calling it now, I bet that Tom Hawkins (who was only suppoused to miss this week) won't play against Carlton either. Because Geelong players never have one-week layoffs anymore, and Scotty won't play them unless they are 100.0000000000000000000000000%.

Get well soon, Menzel, Christensen, Corey, Motlop, Enright, Hawkins, Varcoe, Vardy, Simpson, Wojo etc.

If it is true, a family history certainly supports the notion that he has/had structural anomalies in his knees that predispose him to this injury. At surgery, if this is the case, the notch can be widened while performing the recon. I was seriously worried about this scenario watching his first R knee ACL rupture, which was very innocuous. There is nothing that could have been done to prevent this 2nd Left knee injury, and he will surely have another traditional reconstruction, Hamstring graft, and come back in 9 months. CS said he was dominating in the 1st/4 today, which adds to the anguish, but also means he should again be able to return to this level.

Prismall may be a similar case, trivial twists causing devastation. Although there are hardly any current AFL players playing with a history of BOTH knees reconstructed, Menzel is an exceptional talent, and all efforts will be made to get him back to Wojo standards. I doubt the Geelong hierarchy would consider the LARS. We may be in shock and devastated by this, but there is absolutely NO WAY HE HAD COME BACK TOO SOON. That thought can be put away. The rehab team at Geelong is state of the art. Menzel is in THE BEST HANDS.

Will have to wait 9 months again to see my favourite young cat.

Menzel is in THE BEST HANDS!

Are these the same "hands" that has managed to get Varcoe, Vardy, Wojo and Simpson back on the field this year?

Question hardly deserves a response, but, yes, Simpson has been back 2 weeks, excluding byes, Wojo has been back a month, and suspended, Varcoe has a fractured foot bone, and is progressing as expected, Vardy has flaking cartilage in his hip joint which needs to be managed patiently and expertly, so what is your point?

How about get an idea of what is happening, and how they are being managed first than just firing off names that are not playing in the seniors at the moment.

Totally ill-informed comments.
He did injure the other knee, hope you realise. The reconstructed knee is sound. This injury today was going to happen, given how easily it happened. I miss Menzel as much as any supporter, think he is our brightest young star, but you have to accept that this happens, and is not preventable . Seriously.

None of your assertions about the medical team are accurate, and your comments need to be addressed like this, but I'll accept you are coming to these conclusions out of emotion and ignorance. You claim Menzel has come back too soon, yet you say others are coming back too slowly. Please reread your stuff and conclude you've had a bad day.

his post is incoherent but after 5 or so reads i get.

i think it was saracasm re "hands", and he was insuinating that the cats werent managing the injuries well.

Having read all posts here, I find it kind of frustrating that after about page 5 it turns into the blame game of who's fault it is that Menz did his other knee...

Sad to see it degenerate to "he said she said" and get away from the fact that one of our brightest and most talented players has a new and uncontrollable injury.

Lets get around him as a supporter group and keep him up - not just now but 3 months from now. In other words, lets do what we do so he can get back doing what he does!

GO Catters

Do we have a confirmation on this yet? Or know when hes getting his scan/seeing the surgeon?
Or is it a forgone conclusion hes done his ACL.
If it is the ACL, its really gotta put a question mark on his career doesnt it? Or could it be something where he misses all of this year and starts pre-season late and comes back next year stronger than ever?
God I'm hoping for the best but ABSOLUTELY GUTTED for the kid.

Hayes would be his inspiration

Hope we get his brother in the draft, to help keep him motivated

well there is that rumour of it just being a bad hyper extension....

Everyone would love that to be the case

But you get he feeling that it is more major given the geelong comments

Feels like the genetics are not good, and he is massive in the lower torso

Hopefully the reconstructive surgeries actually overcome any native weakness that may have been in Menz's knees.
All the best to him and fingers crossed that he can still get back to his exciting best next year.
Such a cruel blow...

Thats what I'm hoping too, its clear he has weakness there.
lets hope he can get some pre-season in before the year starts and can have a good year next year.
Shame cos I was looking forward to him playing this year and being a huge reason behind our push into the finals, seems it wont happen.....

edit: This has really taken the optimism out of this year for me, Menz is one of my favourite players and I was so looking forward to him playing, and dominating later this year... I know I've said it a few times but I'm absolutely gutted (as bad as I've felt since 08.....)

Can't imagine how Menzel is feeling right now, can't believe he did another ACL first game back, how unlucky!!

Hope he has a quick recovery and is ready for round 1 2013.

Go cats.

Well ive been having a big sook about this since the game yesterday but I'm going to remain positive from here.
Hes done them at the right time, he should be back training before the start of next season.
Hes young and didnt redo the same knee, so theres the positive that the surgeries are likely to actually strengthen the knees.
Hes a good kid surrounded by the best medical staff in the comp, they WILL look after him well.
He signed a new contract so doesnt have to worry about that at all.
I'm gutted for him still but I hope and believe he will come out of this better than previous, I really hope he can stay mentally tough through the rehab and has no complications, he deserves some luck doesnt he?

Terrible news- but like Scott says the club just has to move on -thats the reality of it

As to the debate as to whether he came back too early -and i know it was the other knee-the unwritten law which has been fed to supporters by all clubs -is that its a 12 month on the sideline injury. Well he did his knee in the 1st week of September -yet came back in the 1st week of June. Dont kid yourself about these Medicos -i was once told by a Leading Heart Specialist -(whod had a few drinks -and the old grog loosens the tongue) that Orthapedic Surgeons are commonly referred to by leading Medico people -as nothing more than Glorified Carpenters
