I remember there was a bit of debate over who was the better player in a different thread so figured I'd make a poll.

Who do you think is the better footballer?

I think Crameri is the better player at the moment, and with him being 3 years older and having played 20 more games than Menzel he should be.

But I feel Menzel has that x-factor, that dangerousness...that capability of producing the moment where opposition supporters see him in the camera lens and think "Oh shit". Menzel is a better mark than Hawkins and a better set shot than Bartel, and he's still got a LOT of improvement in him.

In his first full season, Menz played 18 games and kicked 32 goals, and if he hadn't spent a chunk of the season learning his trade down back, I believe it could have been 40 goals.

These are some of the reasons I've chosen Menzel, though credit to Crameri, he's damn good.

well Crameri, This guy was bloody crap a few years back, all he could do was lift lots of weight and run, still can't kick, but for some unknown reason since Hird took over he has turned into a real powerful player in our forward line, his contested marking is pretty impressive, hard as nails and NEVER goes to ground.
now he is being compared to a absolute ripping young player who looks all class in menzel, I can't be happier.
both guns, would not suprise me which one ends up the better footballer.
both guns.

without injury Menzel by a mile, but he has had 2 knee recos, not sure he can reach the heights he promised.

Went with Crameri for the reason that there isn't many players in the league who can match his combination of strength, speed, endurance and marking ability.

Honestly just don't trust Menzel's body to hold up for him to deliver what he's capable of. Just today it's been reported he's injured the left knee he had the reco on in June last year. Poor guy just can't catch a break.

Isn't a serious injury, just a minor strain

That's good to hear, however I still have big question marks over his body. Hopefully he comes good, but to pick a player for the future I back the guy in with a bit less who can get out on the park.

At the moment you'd have to take Crameri he's getting everything out of himself and can be a tough match up.
Menzel has shown promise and potential but the 2 Menzel boys have had 4 knee reconstructions between them which doesn't give confidence their bodies will hold up.
Crameri for me.

Crameri would be in the top 3 athletes in the game, but Menzel is comfortably more talented. He's a freakish mark for someone of his size.

Probably have to give it to the guy who can stay on the park ...

Top three athletes in the game????? Huge call that.

Denzel for me, I rate Crameri as well...seen a bit of him play given my best mates are Bomber fans but Menz has deceptive strength and is bigger than he looks on TV, he's now 90kg's but his best is substantially better than what I have seen from Crameri's best which was probably the earlier game against Carlton 2012.

Menzel in round 24 last year was awesome and that game typifies the differences between both players.

Hopefully he makes a strong return from injury and given Geelong have had recent players go down with ACL's (Wojcinski, Hunt, Ottens) he has the right staff and people around him to ensure he follows their path and doesn't miss a beat on his return :thumbsu:

Crameri's best has been better than Menzels best. His game against Carlton earlier in the year was amazing.

How many guys combine his strength, speed and endurance?

NN and Goodes top him, but I'm struggling after that - with Crameri in the top handful for each category at Essendon.

Without eve trying Buddy, Ablett , Judd Cloke and Riewoldt.

Ummmm Franklin, Riewoldt of the big guys and then about 25 mids headed up by Dangerfield & Ablett Jnr who would both be pound for pound stronger than Crameri.

Menzel for me, Crameri flat tracks it a fair bit, he kicked 23 goals in the first 9 games while the bombers were flying and then 9 in the last nine games when it got tougher...

Menzel has X factor and if he gets his body right could slot straight into the Stevie Jaaaaaaaay role for Geelong for many years to come.

I think you're seriously underestimating Crameri strength and speed. He would burn Riewoldt with ease over a short distance.

If I were making a list it would be Buddy, Goodes, Dangerfield with Swan and Ablett ahead depending on how you measure speed.

LOL I think you are overestimating Crameri, if he was so quick, strong overhead, and is a superb athlete why is he not in the top 30 forwards in the competition?

p.s. Dangerfield is the quickest of that group

I would rate him in the top 30 forwards in the comp.

It's worth noting that he played through leg injuries for most the season.

Crameri is easily stronger than Roo, pound for pound. Can't see Roo burning off McPharlin as easily either.

Maybe not top 3, but top few no doubt.

So faster and stronger than Riewoldt, Burnt off AA defender McPharlin easily... undoubtably better overhead than Franklin yet averages 1.6 goals per game.

Also this incredible athlete can manage a pathetic 2.2 tackles per game...
