I think the only way we are going to get rich (barring him figuratively holding a gun to the head of the lions) is by losing a player with real trade value like Brown, Waters, Sheppard etc to the gold coast/gws or another team willing to trade a first round pick for them. If I were the lions, I wouldnt accept anything less than our pick 20ish, either a swift type or our second round pick plus another first round pick within the first 10-12.

So thats...

Rich for pick 20ish + pick 12 + Swift. OR pick 20ish + pick 12 + our second rounder whatever that would be, 36ish?

It will take something like this (with the picks a bit different and maybe a different player).

They can't afford to give up Rich with the way they are going atm. So from their point of view they will have to screw us in the trade.

Why would we even bother if we are going to get screwed?

We arguably got a better player with pick 26 last draft, why would we give up pick 12 (which we don't have) and pick 20 PLUS a player.

I would be stunned and dissappointed if we gave up that much for one player who isn't Judd quality.

You would think that a top 10 draft pick like Rich who has only improved would still be worth a top 10 draft pick plus something else.

We won't have a top 10 pick therefore we won't get Rich. It's still possible that Freo could offer a better trade.

Yeah... Judd and Rich are not on the same level.

Rich can kick. ;)

Swift isn't going to be worth much on the trade table. The only positive of him going to Brisbane is Michael Voss is the coach there, he is known to make poor trade choices and Michael did say Tom Swift was the best 16 year old in the country.

Jordan Lockyer is a 190cm key defender with good skills and decision making.
He's dad, Andrew, played 78 games for us, does that mean he's eligible for a F/S selection? Think Andrew Lockyer would have had to have played another 22 games though :(

No unfortunately he isn't eligible to go as a F/S selection. Was in The West Australian this morning. Eagles are pissed.

dont know much about jordan but if he plays anything like his old man plus have the benefits of his dad being the state under 18's coach for a number of years then id like to believe he has been groomed very very well.

real shame we cant sew a bloke like this up.
be good to get a few sneaky father/son's!

We don't have a need for Lockyer imo.

What we we rather Rich or O'Mera?

Rich every day of the week. He's ability is proven at afl and he will continue his improvement as an A grader at afl level. O'meara may well have a higher ceiling and may well end up the better player but if it was one or the other at this stage its rich every day of the week.

Why are the Eagles "pissed"? The rule is 100 games for F/S selection, or is it less for the Vic clubs? Do I recall seeing a 50 game requirement or something like that?

We kind of do actually, very soon we'll have two KPD's on the list - Mackenzie and Brown + Schofield.

As for the second question, whichever costs less.

Anyone still think we wouldn't be better off with Rich, if the chance arose?

Only if we jettison Priddis. Otherwise I would much prefer O'Meara. Our midfield looked really slow today.

There was nothing much wrong with WC's midfield yesterday and it was certainly not any "slower" than Collingwood's. The problem is that Collingwood's onballers "got away" from their opponents which is more to do with player positioning and selection than foot speed.

In fact yesterdays game was a perfect example of why WC could do with Rich. Collingwood's defenders zoned to the half back line when WC had the ball and positioned themselves according the "kicking capacity" of the ball carrier. You could see them drop back 10m or so when Lynch marked the ball whilst moved foward when others took a kick. Go back and watch the game - it was quite apparent that Collingwood's press was high in order to create the contest on their HB line. What it meant was that Kennedy had to come out to the HF line to mark which meant he was then double teamed because
1) WC's HFF's didnt spread to stop Collingwood's defenders from working together and
2) WC were so Kennedy conscious that O'Brien, Maxwell etc knew exactly where the ball was going.

WC's midfielders lack the ability to make a 70m play by either running 20m and kicking 50 or simply kicking 70, so good defenders know where to create a zone in front of and around Kennedy.
The ability of Rich to hit targets at distances up to 70m means opposition players cant sit 50m forward of the play as he can kick over their heads. So they need to press back that extra 10-15m meaning there is more space for leading forwards to run into.

Make no mistake, run and carry is great and everyone would love a Judd or an Ablett but these players are few and far between. Do not underestimate how much impact a player with precise kicking can impact a game as we have seen with Rich, Hurn, Hodge etc. It is these players that turn a defence around and when that happens those teams are in strife as they are out of position, the zone breaks down and then teams score easily.

It has everything to do with foot speed.

Really ? Are you telling me that if WC's midfield yesterday consisted of Lewis Jetta, David Wojinski, Stephen hill and Brett Peake - that it would have made any difference at all.

Given the Western Bulldogs are acknowledged as being far more fleet of foot than Collingwood, then how did WC beat them the week before ?

Masto - whilst there is no doubt WC midfield would be better rounded with a line breaker in the mould of Hill or Judd, the simple fact is that this type of player will not solve their problems overnight. In fact if you look at the top 5 teams in the comp - Geelong, Coll, Hawks, Carlton and Ess - only Judd and Winderlich have good pace with honorable mentions to Thomas, Jetta and Zaharakis (off the top of my head). Geelong arent fast, neither are Collingwood whilst Hawks are almost pedestrian.

All teams look slow when they are getting towelled up and WC are no different as was WB the week before and Freo on the weekend as well.

Collingwood broke so many tackles that it probably made them look faster than they are.

No shame in it for us though, Collingwood have so many seasoned players.

It's much easier to break tackles when you drop the ball forward the moment your touched. Absolutely ****ing ridiculous yesterday.

100% agree.

Is that dropping the ball thing still a rule?

Also, it's about time the AFL made throwing legal. Practically all players do it and it's not really fair to have umpires looking for handballs all the time.

How weird would that be?? It's such a unique aspect of the sport.
