Fogarty's window into the team is getting thinner.

Now when Jenkins is out we play Himmelberg.

When Lynch is out we have Douglas/Greenwood forward.

When Hartigan was out we run a smaller backline.

It's really only Tex's spot that he can take.
I thought that's the point. He's Tex's replacement.

I don't think time in the SANFL is a bad thing. Doedee spent a lot of time there, there was lots of hand wrining. Turned out that it didn't hurt him. Who knew.

Are we capable of drawing that conclusion with Doedee?

Is it also possible that he simply may have been ready earlier, and perhaps could have been more advanced last year had he been played earlier? I'm less criticial there in any respect, because it was really for the benefit of another developing player- Lever- that he didnt have a spot in the team- not so we could double down on non-elite seniors.

That isn't a point

If he's soooooo unbelievably limited as a footballer that he can only play one lone role and can't play as part of a forward line then we've got a dud.

Not playing Doedee hurt us massively.

Our refusal to even have a look at him meant that we went into a GRAND FINAL with limited players like Mackay and Kelly in our backline

Jenkins was always replaced by Himmelberg, however Lynch not being replaced by Fog was very concerning.

I do wonder if he needs to one on one with someone like a Lynch for a while and get the link play going as well.

This is happening but Ben Davis is the player being groomed by Lynch.

There is a massive difference between spending a long apprenticeship in the SANFL before playing the easiest role to **** it up in the AFL, and becoming a CHF off the bat.

Expecting Fogarty to replace Tex without a good block of games prior would be setting up for failure.

Link play is a key part of a CHF role as well, it's not just for the third tall.

Well that’s not what you said.

Your post states concern he didn’t directly replace Lynch. Then you go on to say he should be working with Lynch.

Playing as a CHF and working some link patterns into his game is an entirely different scenario

Would love to see him play Dougy's spot. I think everyone needs to pump the brakes on the "he's being mismanaged" panic. We've got a good track record with developing players. He's also away for some R&R with a few senior players too so you just know they'd be looking after him.

It’s disappointing we haven’t given him significant midfield time at SANFL level, if we were looking to develop other areas of his game then this would have been the perfect area to work on this year.

I would have loved to see him used 70% midfield 30% forward.
Fogarty is not a midfielder and never will be....The lad himself sees himself as a Forward and that's where he should be developed. His game is built around offence, attack on the ball and ball carrier. He can and will be a real attacking weapon for us when it all falls into place.....patience is required with Darcy.

Can someone who has watched the SANFL games this year give an honest and unbiased review of Fogarty’s season to date.

There are a lot of bold and outlandish statements made in this thread about how we are handling FOG, but there are guys in great form in the Magoo’s right now, and FOGs name isn’t coming up in best players or goal kickers all that often.

What is his actual impact on the game and on merit does he deserve to be forced into the main side?

I guess if we're to be brutally honest the lad has been disappointing this season in that he just isn't getting involved enough in general play. Has looked marginally better since being swung back to his more natural role up forward but does seem a bit out of sorts right now, his on field frustration at times very evident. I'm sure a lot the frustration is borne out from Darcy expecting more from himself. He's a good lad and I'm sure in time it will all start to fall in place for him, too much natural football talent for it not to.

Edit : One thing that has concerned me a little with Darcy is the fact he seems to be getting under some of his kicks lately and getting more elevation than penetration at times.....maybe it's just me? Anyone else noticed this?

This phrase always makes me... laugh?

replace 'player' with 'choirboy' and... you get the drift

In ordinary meaning it's fine... it just has different connotations now.

I have the Tigers on 13w, which games do you see them losing? I have Dons on 11w and Port on 10w.
I see Melbourne improving massively for the remainder of the season, they've got quite a good draw before they hit Richmond. Tigers also no guarantee against Brisbane either. Even if they win ONE of those matches by my calculations they'll finish on 13 wins, and i have Crows/Port/Freo and Brisbane sitting on 13 wins or higher too, which will still mean Richmond will still have an issue getting into the 8 with their %

Fogarty just does not have anywhere near the aerobic capacity to spend 70% of his game time in the midfield. This is his major problem. Once he gets much fitter, the rest of his game will take a leap. He will get to more contest, win more of them and be more damaging with his touches.

Just work on that engine Fog.

Obviously Fogarty can replace Lynch, timing was part he was left out against gws/richmond. If Lynch isn’t ready for geelong than he should be one the players in line to replace Douglas.

No we're not. We're actually weaker than last year. The only improvement has come from Sloane, Brad and Brodie being fit.
No love for Keath? Milera has improved, Gooch starting now to step up. Yes, Brouch and Smith are huge, but there is more to it than just that as the differing ladder positions and competitiveness show. Our off field managing of injuries also?

We looked pretty average at the time of my post, beating lowly sides but falling short against contenders.

ROB, Keath and CEY are all big improvers, while Tex has picked his form back up.

Milera hasn't improved from last year, while Seeds and Gibbs have regressed (injuries have played a part in the first two).

I still think our best last year was better at this stage. A win in Geelong would give us an enormous amount of belief though.

Admittedly i've only seen the SANFL highlights and read the match reports and stats, but even with that limited snapshot it doesn't seem like he's currently banging the doors down by any stretch of the imagination. Never terrible, but also not impacting the game enough at the lower level to seriously be considered in the AFL side.

Its nice that he's back forward now and will have the opportunity to play his more natural game and hopefully get some form in the back end of the season. I have no doubt this kid will make it, he has bucket loads of raw talent, but right now he's done nothing to dislodge any of the KP players in the 1's. Until he does that he's precisely where he needs to be IMO!

They aren't different scenarios at all. Link play is a key component of being a CHF.

Of course, I'd have him working with Lynch to replace him when injured (and to hell with Davis) due to how vital it is for our mid term to get someone like Fogarty up and running, so we are covered when Tex retires (under the assumption Lynch will also be on his last legs then as well).

Doedee and Lever in the same team playing the same role is a concern, so is Doedee and Keath in the same team.....

Only if our coaches are exceptionally inept and aren't able to work a structure to suit our best footballers
