Only if our coaches are exceptionally inept and aren't able to work a structure to suit our best footballers

The alternative is are they all just average footballers who look good because they have an easy role (Lever hasn't exactly been a good recruit for Melbourne).

That's the problem when you have 3-4 players go through a position and all of them are AA calibre. There is a point that gets too frequent to be a player development thing.

Would love to see him play Dougy's spot. I think everyone needs to pump the brakes on the "he's being mismanaged" panic. We've got a good track record with developing players. He's also away for some R&R with a few senior players too so you just know they'd be looking after him.

Are there different Fogs and Dougies that I don’t know about?

Hawthorn (via their board) apparently keen on a young ‘SA-based’ key forward looking for more game time. Let’s hope it’s not Fog, but Marshall. Or Frampton.

Either way, it’s very Hawthorn (and very un-Adelaide) to poach a disgruntled/raw player with talent and turn them in to a star.

No chance it is fogarty..he is building and contracted till the end of 2021. He will be a crow for life imo

Think it is most likely to be Frampton at Port..Marshall is under contract

I've heard they are sniffing around Garner from Port too. Them and Geelong are the best in the business at getting people to want to play for them.

I'd very much imagine that hawthorn are hollering for a Marshall.

Frampton is more or a ruckman than a forward, though, isn't it? In any case, Fogarty played 10 games in his first year. Frampton played 1 in his first 4 years. One of those two players has a right to be disgruntled with his lack of AFL games, and it isn't Fogarty.

Call me silly and someone that has blind faith, but I would not be parting with Fogarty at this stage for anything. He has in my opinion a massive upside and I see our forward line being built around him in years to come..I hope he does to and can keep improving and refining his game accordingly

Agreed

Would be devastating seeing him rip it up for another club

Moving might be the best thing for him sadly but I hope we can find a way to make it work here

I think a lot of us are seeing it in reverse. The general theme seems to be “Fog is going backwards since last year”.

When in fact in 2018, it was merely the opportunities that arise from all the injuries we had and also particularly to Tex, which helped Fog’s selection.

The reality is that Fog still needs to develop an engine, and his lack of AFL games this year probably more reflects less injuries to us up forward and that Fog isn’t going to add to our structures or overall performance as of right now.

If Fog builds his engine up to AFL standard then I reckon he will be selected and he can then be played in various spots from his current experiences playing all around the ground.

And.........I can’t bloody wait for that time to happen!!

He played his best game with Tex, the idea that they can't play together is an invention.

I know why everyone continues to pretend that we don't have exposed AFL performance upon which to draw conclusions as to whether he can play top level, but they should stop it.

Jenkins will get traded end of year I think. Will then be between Fogarty and Himmelburg to fight over the spot. Hopefully Fog has a big preseason and adds some strength and gains endurance and speed to get him to a level where he can break a defender.
I agree with the Jenkins is leaving vibe. His interview on AFL360 the other day had a very strong undertone of "me me me me them them them them".

As far as a spot being a battle between Fog or the Big Easy - I couldn't disagree more strongly. There is plenty of room for both ... as they offer very different roles and skillsets.

Fogarty will be a monster ... he is 5 years younger than Cripps and is only 2cm shorter and is 2kg heavier. His evasion is sublime, his strength is off the charts, his kicking elite, his intent is ferocious ... Cripps is a lot of these things and more, but I see Fog becoming an absolute top of the comp midfielder that can roll forward and kick goals.

Himmelberg is a very different beast. He is 21 years old, 198cm and 94kg. ROB and Berg will be one hell of duo - as Berg will become that forward contested marking goal kicking big man that can give a real chop out in the ruck.

Both are a big part of our plans going forward. I hope both get a good run of games in the second half of 2019 - and hopefully a final or two.

You're not serious?

Cripps has always been able to find the ball in bunches right back to his junior footy, Fogarty has always struggled to find a lot of the ball right back to his junior days. Cripps is very, very much a natural midfielder, Fogarty is not.

Fogarty has always shown his best football is played forward. Evasion, strength, elite kicking and ferocious intent are nice attributes to have but mean little if you can't find the footy consistently. Darcy best chance at being a serious AFL footballer are as a forward and I hope that's where we continue to develop him.

Ok, I just said what I saw in him from the evidence do far. Seriously.

I agree he has a lot to offer up forward, but he has characteristics that I see in great mids too.

Cripps will be the best player in the comp for multiple years. He is the standard others will aspire to.

I see some of that new modern power mid in Fogarty.

This whole " Hes Player X's replacement, not Player Y" argument is doing my head in.
When we finally realise you structure up to the strengths of the players on your list and discard this whole idea that we have an ideal "winning "structure whose mold the players must fit into in order to be selected, we will be much better off.
Richmond smashed us in that GF with a structure that looked nothing like ours. Isn't that proof enough?
Play your talent. Play Tex, Play Fog and modify/tailor your stale, predictable 4y.o bloody gameplan to suit.

When you or I see a rubbish individual performance by a player does Pyke instead see a breakdown in the structure.

Sounds like you’re not big on Fog making it?
