Hine does not have to commit (to Moore) publicly, so why should he?
Why give other clubs a heads up on our drafting strategy?
As other posters have noted.....we keep our cards close to the chest & play the hand when it's our turn.

You can't? To get him for a second round pick... I thought it was pretty clear.

As I laid it out though, it's essentially hoping for the kid to play poorly so that other clubs cool on him.

I'd rather the kid be unable to play poorly because he's just such a gun that he ends up playing well every week. For him to play poorly, and for us to get him for a second round pick, you're essentially hoping for him to prove to be a lesser player than that.

It's like hoping that your kid drops out of high school so that you don't have to pay for Years 11 & 12 - Seems to be real backward thinking.

Darcy Moore has no say in whether Collingwood drafts him or which pick it must use to get him. To him, those conversations feel like ''external noise'', and not the best reason to want to play well. What he wants to concentrate on is doing well for the team he is playing for, and on Friday that meant doing all he could to keep Vic Metro’s chances of winning a national title ticking.

Moore kicked four goals, made sure his teammates had someone to move the ball towards and felt like part of a team that has become more organised, predictable and consistent as the six-round series has unfolded. He was also able to take the things he has learnt while playing in defence back to the other end of the ground, and use them to make him a more knowing forward.

''You just do what I don’t like playing on, what’s hard to play against,'' said Moore, after Metro beat Western Australia by 58 points in its second last game of the championships.

''I’m really enjoying it. Training and playing and getting a bit of consistency is really good. It’s been good taking those steps and I feel like I’m in a pretty good position. I was born and bred as a forward from a young age, so I’ve had to develop those defensive instincts and really knuckle down and focus on that.''

THE final piece of a big man contingent Collingwood is shrewdly assembling to dominate the AFL for the next decade yesterday showed what a steal he will be.

Darcy Moore, the 199cm son of dual Brownlow Medallist Peter, booted four goals in a best-afield display as Vic Metro crushed Western Australia by 58 points at Simonds Stadium.

It follows the Magpies winning the race to sign 211cm American college basketballer Mason Cox last month, while master recruiter Derek Hine landed the 2012 draft bargain when 203cm ruckman Brodie Grundy slipped to pick 18.

The Pies are certain to part with their first pick in November’s draft to secure Moore and with a finals appearance on the horizon, they will likely land the top-10 talent with a selection in the teens.

The flexible Oakleigh Charger has swung between the arcs this year but displayed his full set of tricks in attack yesterday, finishing with 16 disposals (12 contested), six scoring involvements and 4.1

Two clubs last night said on the open market they would have Moore in the wide-open frame to go No.1.

“When he’s a defender he’s almost unstoppable because of how he reads the game and his amazing athleticism,” a chief scout said.

Moore, who kept No.1 chance Hugh Goddard statless in a half earlier in the carnival, cleanly collected the footy with one hand before weaving through traffic to kick his second goal, while his third came when he got boot to ball while lying on the ground in a tackle.

He had 132 SuperCoach points at the last change but while his performance – and long-term potential to team with Ben Reid in a devastating swinging combination – excited the Magpies, AFL recruiters took little out of the disappointing double-header.

I cant see anyway how we will not draft him. You simply cannot let a 199cm swingman go past us, especially when KP players will be become har to find. We need to find the next support to trav cloke and he may well be the man. The kid is already close to 95+ kg and he is 199cm for gods sake, you simply dont find those kind of young Kp players lying around. As much as i know hine will play poker face with other clubs i cant help but feel that we will draft him with our 1st pick.

With Stewart, I get the feeling that Hine knew that a team would bid higher than he was willing to pay, and he probably felt that not nominating him in the first place was probably less harsh than nominating him, getting his hopes up, but then not matching the bid.
