AFL Collingwood v Gold Coast: Darcy Moore suffers knee injury late in Pies’ win over Suns

The best-case scenario for Collingwood star Darcy Moore has been revealed, with the Pies premiership credentials questioned in the wake of the key big man’s sickening injury.

AFL

Collingwood star Darcy Moore faces a best-case scenario of around a month on the sidelines with bone bruising as the Pies await scan results clear ligament damage this week.
Star defender Moore hyperextended his knee in the frantic last minutes of the club’s sixth consecutive victory as the Pies stunned Gold Coast with a match-winning burst.
The Pies are confident Moore has dodged ACL damage but the nature of hyperextensions means only scans can clear him of ligament damage.
Respected sports medico Peter Larkins told the Herald Sun on Sunday if Moore has only bone bruising he could miss three or four weeks with knee capsule damage.
But Larkins said the Pies would be sweating on those scan results to fully rule out any damage to the anterior or posterior cruciate ligament.

The Pies flew back from the Gold Coast on Sunday afternoon with Moore expected to have scans on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning.
Larkins said the angle of the hyperextension would decide whether there was ligament damage as well as an issue with Moore’s knee capsule.
“You can do the ACL or PCL when you have a hyperextension like that. There is always capsule damage with a hyperextension,” he said.
“Clubs always tell porkies about waiting for scans when they do know if there is ACL damage but the hyperextension is a tricky one.
“An ACL can feel loose but it can be hard to know if there is ACL or PCL damage. It’s one of the rare injuries where the doctors aren’t quite sure.
“Even a mild hyperextension can be 3-4 weeks with bone bruising. With a capsule sprain you can play with it strapped up but the scans will be really important for this one.”

Moore is a pivotal member of the Pies defence.

Without him, the Pies’ title hopes are being questioned.
Former St Kilda and Fremantle coach Ross Lyon said if Moore was out for the season he would doubt they could win the flag.
“I was a bit emotional when I saw it. I love everything he stands for,” Lyon told Triple M.
“I don’t know him at all but it puts it back into what you have experienced with your own players. I love what the Pies have done, but it would make it incredibly difficult for them from here. He is the lynchpin for them.”
North Melbourne legend Wayne Carey said he still doubted the Pies’ chances despite their six-match run.
“He is that important that if he didn’t play last night Collingwood don’t win,” he said.
“He will be a huge loss and I know they have won six in a row but four are by less than a kick. So they are teetering. I am unconvinced and without Moore I think it makes it really difficult.”

The Pies have only a handful of players on their injury list with Brodie Grundy a month away with PCL damage and Nathan Kreuger (shoulder), Reef McInnes (shoulder) and Tom Wilson (back) out for the season.
The Pies 10-5 win-loss record has given them hope of pushing into the top four in a remarkable turnaround from their 17th position last year.
Nick Daicos has roared back into overwhelming favouritism for the Rising Star, now $1.30 with TAB after a superb 37-possession display.
Jordan De Goey’s return to the side after a Bali adventure and a week off for personal issues saw him make little impact in a fumbly 11-possession display but he will be better for the run leading into the Roos clash.
Coach Craig McRae was thrilled with his capacity to move forward after being held accountable by Nick Holman and still find a way to make an impact.
The Pies will account for hapless North Melbourne next week then have Adelaide away, Essendon at the MCG and Port Adelaide (MCG) in a chance to push those top four hopes.

Carey can kiss my arse. We pumped Freo and were all over Melbourne and the Giants and only our poor conversion made them close encounters. The scoreboard lied. The bombers suffered a similar fate when they played us.

Does Carey rate the Swans , Freo and the lions who have lost to all three of the top four sides?

We have a great record against the best.

Carey is a douche. Listening to the commentary last night, he was shattered we came back, and won. We are probably the in-form team of the competition. Just another Collingwood hater.....

Didn't Carlton fall over the line against the Hawks and Port when Port were 9 goals down and playing terribly and they did the same against the Hawks with full strength teams? But they are the media darling.
The saints smashed them. Another team we put away

Just saw Moore on the news and he said the signs are good that it's not an ACL but they are waiting for the scans to confirm it. Plus, he was walking to his car unassisted by anything

Usually, if a club thinks its an ACL, they just come out & say so. No point trying to hide it for a few days.

Club has done it before
