Could you imagine a fan voting based system? Wells calling dodoro:

"Hey mate, says here I'm asking for Darcy parish with Archie perkins and Nick Cox as steak knives, and apparently we're offering you... umm ... Jake Kolodjashnij, Quinton Narkle, Mark O'Connor, Gryan Miers, Shaun Higgins, Luke Dahlhaus... and err.... a 2nd back our way....?"
"Weird hey! Ive got this one where we've offered ricky dyson and a 3rd for tom atkins. Ive not tried that one for a good many years"

I think our midfield is a bit same same as Essendon's is.

A big part of our issue is that we don't have midfielders that run defensively. Am I right in saying this is not a strength of Parish's?
Any of our mids. Our wingers are ok at it. Reckon we're very similar minus neale being more impact than we have from anyone.

Yes.

And disposal is iffy. Not Shiel level butcher, but not great either

Sounds like he's like Jarryd Lyons (before his massive drop off this year), which isn't a mix that's worked for us in the past come finals.

We're already going to be adding Ashcroft who's a similar smaller midfielder, so I'm not sure Parish really changes the status quo for us too much.

I think we're better off hoping Robertson stays (contracted for next year) and trying to develop him.

Id like robertson.

Doubt we trade parish tbh. Lions wouldnt make sense. You'd be looking for a midfield that is defensively sound but needs an offensive ball hunter. Pies, cats, saints and maybe suns i reckon make most sense

Is there a reason that DP's name keep being brought up in talk? Is he happy at Ess... Free Agent for 2023
I think the push is from fans more than anyone else. Unless the new coach wants him gone, I highly doubt he leaves this off season.

He's an under contract AA midfielder that will be getting band 1 compensation next year if he leaves. If we have a similarly poor year (not out of the realms of possibility) that nets a top 5 pick. Why the hell would we trade for anything less than a first and a second if it's a bottom 10 team or two firsts for a club like Collingwood?

Also don't mistake Essendon FANS wanting to get rid of him as the club wanting to get rid of him. The club for some reason wants to keep him and aren't shopping him around. The rumours are based on him potentially wanting to leave.

The money for Taranto would be comparable? Id have not thought Band1 but who knows , money really depends on which club tries to lure him.

Has Parish being dissatisfied been reported anywhere? I’ve seen people mention it on BF but heard it nowhere else.

He had a very good season..last year? No coach would make it difficult to make a trade.
Was a lot better in 2021. You have to be pretty bloody damaging if you’re going to hunt the ball at the exclusion of defensive efforts. He wasn’t damaging enough this year to justify his current style.

Eths post is a good summary of the current situation.

Threshold for band 1 seems to be around the $800k/year mark based on (I suspect not particularly accurate) media reports of what Daniher got. Will be interesting to see who offers him that. Could see St Kilda or North doing it. Don't think if necessarily fits into the way Geelong structure their contracts (Cameron aside).

It depnds on the offer though and what he would move for and what the AFL say is the trigger for band1 Is he worth 850,000 a year? Who knows Probably but id not be sure of what pick you would get form the afl..They can adjust the numbers anytime they want.

To be band1 ..it has to be in the top 5% of players his age that qualify for FA.. and length of contract... and base level payments affect it. ...its a rubbery situation. With adjustments to Sal Cap ..etc... what would trigger the Band1 is not certain. This is the AFL we are talking about.

We match if it’s lower and force a trade.

All true. GWS matching has made that plausible. Whether anyone should be able to match is a different discussion.
I’ll add that Parish is a legitimately good player. He deserves a good contract, he’s just not the right fit for our team.

There are supposedly specific concerns around idk the coaching and whether things are communicated clearly or whatever, but there’s no noise at all about him wanting to leave. Pretty well embedded in the club and playing group generally. And really, if you don’t like the coach just wait five minutes 🙄

I think some people interpret that as him being part of the problem, and thus wanting to get rid of him.

You'd be very optimistic to think Parish won't attract an offer that attracts Band 1 compo.

I'd expect any coach appointed to Essendon would likely flat out refuse any trade request Parish would (hypothetically) make.
He's a very good player and you'd give yourself 12 months to sell a vision to try and retain him beyond his existing contract.

You'd want to have a conversation with him first. Measure his intent to stick out out first.

STOP RUINING OUR DREAMS

Apparently seen meeting the Hawks.

We'd be arguably the worst fit for him out of all 18 clubs in the AFL. I like him, but I have no idea what moving on Tom Mitchell for peanuts and acquiring Parish for the likely asking price would do to benefit our list.

Yep, but I'd be happy if it were. It gives us a good parallel to the Cerra trade last year (with Parish worth more obviously).

Parish and a F3/4 (or paying part of his salary) for 6 and 24
