We should never have appointed David Teague without a proper coach search. I hate when clubs appoint interim coaches without a proper coaching search process. People get seduced by a bit of success as interim coach way too much. Much like his footy career...........good first season, then downhill after

as opposed to appointing Bolton after a “proper process”

His teams need to learn how to defend all parts of the ground.

Forward line.
- Need to have at least one player get to the back of contests. We let lose opposition players sit out the back, easy handball and an unpressured exit follows.

- Cut off the wide players sitting lose. We just let them switch and run.

- Get there! Numbers at the fall of the ball are just not good enough and the intent to get to the man isn't there.

Midfield.
- it's OK go one on one.

- checking. It's where an opponent goes to run past and you block them. Checking opponents is completely absent in our game, we just let teams run in waves.

- Man out the back. Seriously, letting them have a lose player out the back of stoppages with no one near them is criminal.

Defence.
- Defend first. And really work hard on chasing leads. We're lazy, expecting help on our leads all the time.

- Get back. Our players don't know when to push back hard. It's really poor when the ball movement is slow and our backline is still wide open.

As David King calls it Teague’s gift every opposition team knows we’ll give them the opportunity.

Or it's allowing us to develop him...

This is the kicker though - who bloody knows. We don't know if he'd be better in the long run if he'd just held his senior spot every week, or if he stands to benefit more in the long run by working on his game in the reserves.

What I do know is that trying to claim that "the data" shows that Teague is favouring old blokes to the detriment of youth development is so far from reliable it's astounding to think anyone would believe it.

Firstly, the data is incredibly general and vague, and is being viewed without any effort to apply contextual understanding - age profile of list, list profile by position/age, availability of players through injury/suspension, form of players...the selectors aren't selecting on age alone, so using it as the sole measure to prove a selection policy is...not smart.

And secondly, as before, even were one able to find some kind of conclusive proof that Teague is deliberately overlooking kids in favour of old blokes (which he's clearly not...Walsh, Stocker, Owies, Cottrell, Fogarty...seems the ones who perform their role keep their spots) it's almost certain that the kids being "overlooked" are actually being "developed".

I certainly hope so, in terms of allowing young players to develop, I still think Teague is favouring certain types and seems to hold certain players to a different level of accountability, I don’t have stats handy, just my observation, I also think he has done several things that are detrimental to young players development.

But as you say, there needs to be context and for all I know, some of the things that I think are detrimental, well maybe those players were communicated with prior on what to expect.

I definitely believe players like Gov, Williams, Martin and Casboult are given a lot more rope than some others.

Say no more !!
And Teague and this coaching staff , should just say it’s time , we can t trust Teague for another 3 years with list

he isn’t mentally strong enough to snap this list out of there mental fragility

what a shocking team we have , names with no substance or care

I've said it here, every team knows all they have to do is put in 15 minutes of manic pressure, and they beat us. today at least the Swans had to do it a couple of times, which may suggest growth, but the result was the same. How good was the turn around stat? That is damning, what is David going to say tonight? We are collectively hurting, we know how the fans feel, we feel it, it's not good enough.......blah ,blah, blah.
If this was the EPL, he'd be sacked by now. That's how serious football teams operate. We are afterall a bit ameteur....

We need a coach with a tough edge who can hold these players accountable.
We also need a Caracella type who excels in strategy and game plan. It’s glaringly obvious
Exactly. He's failed to get the players to raise to the level required. He talks of being beaten for run and tackling effort. Well David it's been under your command. Time to move on . You've failed badly.

No to removing a coach after 2 years in the job. Do what the successful clubs do and surround the coach with the proper people to help him develop and become successful.

Time for us to behave like a serious football club, not churning through coaches ad Infinitum.

We play a game style that requires quick, reliable use - something we aren't exactly known for.. instead of adapting our strategy to our list, we try the same things again expecting a different result.

There appears to be a disconnect between our list management and intended gameplan over recent history but Teague and Co are not helping themselves atm.

Holy crap. Not acceptable in the slightest.

I
It would very be surprising if he was sacked this week, but could anybody mount a strong argument that it would be the wrong decision?

This club would be the laughing stock of the league if we sacked him this week.

He has not lost the players, the club is not in fact/crisis, and factor in the difficulties with the new COVID outbreak in Victoria (which now seems almost certain to have an extended lockdown period in in Melbourne), sacking Teague now is simply not going to happen.

Wait and see till the end of the season and make an evaluation/decision then.
