Just trying to get a game: Murphy on being 'dropped', his race to 300
Former Carlton captain Marc Murphy opens up on the challenges he's facing in the latter stages of his career
"I was pretty surprised [about being medical sub]. I thought I'd been doing enough to warrant playing week-to-week, but that was the coach's decision and I had to cop it on the chin," Murphy said."
The above quote is damning! If a player who has been underperforming hasn't got the foggiest idea he's not doing enough and is on the precipice of being dropped that's on the coaching group and head coach. What the hell is being reviewed and told to the players??
Teague sees them most days a week, even a 5 minute chat to say, "Hey Smurph... last game you showed no intent to defend or play both ways! If that keeps up you'll leave me no option to put you out for a spell. Work on it, mate!"
