Would have thought Teague may be slightly more nervous with the news out of Hawthorn. Clearly Clarkson doesn't have any obligation to the Hawks now that they've effectively told him he won't be coach post the 2022 season. As much as I like Teague as a bloke, we should now be moving heaven and earth to get Clarkson.

Ratten. The same old story, a group of mainly senior players no longer playing for the coach, I remember the game against Gold Coast, it was virtually like the players giving him the boot.
Every coach this century has lost the players, bar Teague so far. Might not always be the coach. Maybe the culture.

I reckon we have been down that path before, older coaches coming for the superannuation cheque. Not saying it is the same with Clarko but we have been there before having it end in tears. Without the culture, drive and motivation from within the playing group Clarko would have the same issue as every coach we have had this century. Now, theoretically, what if we win 5 of our last 7, finish on 11 wins and make the 8? Be another Ratten/Malthouse changeover.

Ian Aitken his senior assistant?...lol.

Why? We are doing fine with the coach we have now?

Sake for the sake of change is such a shallow argument. There is no possibly common sense or logistical reason to get rid of Teague as senior coach now.

As others have mentioned we are starting to see some subtle changes in the game plan that seem to be working.

One thing I want to see more of from Teague and that's showing a bit more passion. I don't want him to be like Chris Scott but if something really good happens I want a fist pump or if he doesn't agree with a dodgy umpiring decision I want him to swipe a water bottle off the bench in front of him.
Why?
Leigh Matthews was a statue, Clarko punched walls. Roos and horse are like Matthews and scott like clarko.

Everyone has their own style..and each of the above won premierships.

Were having a full scale review of the football department. We clearly aren't doing fine.

Let's wait until the season plays itself out, this baying for blood has been going on since round two, crazy stuff really. There's even a chance we finish higher than the reigning premier at this stage :tearsofjoy:

Underperformance...
Would be a pretty good reason I would have thought...

We have underperformed for most of 20 years. Changing coaches has done nothing. with a poor culture, a lack of drive and motivation, something only the players can sort, it wouldn't matter who we got unless that changes. So, maybe the issue isn't coaching given how many times we have changed to coach for no result. Teague is easily our 2nd best performed coach this century (low bar admittedly). What if we win the 5 winnable/50-50 games. Could well get us into the 8.

It's time for the club to grow a backbone and not wilt under pressure. Stand up in spite of external noise, including what supporters might be saying, and do the right thing. Build solid structures and back your people in. That I hope was the purpose of the review, to enable that to happen, not to justify a witch hunt.

Clarkson is finished as a quality'senior AFL coach.
Silly... a 60 year old is coaching Brisbane... Clarko is 53... he would at least bring in standards and an aggressive mindset to the list... and respect. 5 years of Teague vs 5 years of Clarko, who would you tip to get 17.

What you are saying sounds very logical but it almost exactly how it was sold to us when Malthouse became coach, the parallels are concerning to me.

Malthouse was cooked, even Eddie was saying and people within were saying it... Micks spite fuelled that last hurrah of success and after that was drained.. we never should of tapped that. Clarko is in a different boat... I feel the modern day Parkin and would work for us more than Lyon or Teague.

The playing list was in poor shape with Malthouse took over best players at the back end of their career.
The list has a very good foundation of its best five players under 24, so with some smart acquisitions and improved game plan via a new coach or if Teague can evolve as a coach the base is there, the review is in place because we have underperformed most of the season, two wins against teams that in reality we should be significantly in front of in the rebuild does not equate to everything being perfect.

Which was?

From memory, we had a shithouse start vs. gold coast but came roaring home and almost pinched it. despite our horror injury list we grinded out 11 wins. i'm sure a few senior players had the shits with him but to say he completely lost the group is untrue imo.
Don't think this is the right thread to discuss. PM sent.

I'm wondering what makes you think we should be significantly ahead of anybody after undergoing the biggest rebuild any club has ever undertaken. Ours was a total demolition of the list, others have been able to reset.

Silvagni himself was of the mind that it would take ten years which is one of the things that put him at odds with others that didn't want that type of messaging out there. Funny thing is that accept it or not he was right, if we win a flag by 24/25 we'll be right at the point he suggested.

You say we have underperformed and I wonder what people expected this year. I expected we may just fall into the final 8 or finish 2 or 3 spots out of the eight, pretty much what will most likely be the result. We'd need 6 out 0f 7 wins to make the 8, not saying that will happen but we aren't a bottom region of the ladder team.

I'm still happy to wait and see where we are at the end of the season.

At this point in time and on available evidence in recent years Teague.

Let’s see the year out and see what Teague does the next 7 weeks but let’s be honest .. can you see Teague lifting 17 with crippa .. I can’t

Did anyone say the same about Geelong under Mark Thompson or Damian Hardwick when those coaches were under the pump/fighting for their coaching lives?

Teague has yet to coach his full second season as coach.

He is still a young coach learning and growing into the role. Cut him some slack and give him more time.
