What exactly did CA do to warner this last year?

I might be wrong but i am sure they hadn't dumped him as an opener before he hit root?

Warner opened in india and he surely would have opened in england for the first test if he didn't punch an opponent, CA have messed up a lot of things but not sure how they can take the blame for somebody batting terribly in india and then attacking an opponent.

I'll see your Eastwood, and raise you Phil Carlson.
To put it in perspective though, Eastwood was elevated to Australia's first XI (at the ripe old age of 35 from memory).

Carlson was one of a number selected through circumstance in what was probably Australia's third XI.

Ian Bell was the real difference between the two teams in the last series. He's hardly a destructive batsman. Would take someone churning them out like Bell over Dave.

I didn't mean destructive in the sense of tonking an attack.

More the ability to score big scores at a decent rate, and one of the few batsmen that can make a world class attack look ordinary.

Now to do it against a real bowling lineup on an oval not the size of a postage stamp that doesnt have concrete as a pitch.. oh wait we already know he can't.

Won't matter has secured his spot for the 1st test, hopefully can get some runs in the second innings

I agree. I think they'll go with Warner anyway, at least for the 1st Test.

Some runs in the 2nd innings would be good for all concerned though.

I don't know, I have Lehmann pegged as the main Warner fanboy just based on the way it played out after Arthur was turfed. Boof messed with Cowan and Hughes and Watson in the order in anticipation of Warner's return regardless of his potential results on that SA trip.

Warner 21 & 15 vs Tassie.

(Maddinson 15 & 35 - against Tassie)

(Hanscombe 69 & 56 not out against WA)

Handscomb is a few years away from even being considered.

Well the main fanboy is clearly the skipper, clarke seemingly uses every press conference to remind us that davey is a great bloke, a dangerous batsmen and hell could even still be the skipper one day.

Just type "clarke supports warner" or "clarke defends warner" into google and you will see i am not exaggerating.

He's not on my radar. But someone was pushing his cause the other day so I put his numbers up >

I would say Handscomb, but I would love to see a full season from him where he averages in the 40's

Boof is in the same boat.
I also suspect that Invers rates Hughes far more than Boof does.

Scott Henry 48 & 65* against Tassie. Not saying he deserves a spot but you can compare most players like this for one match. Hell, the top 6 for the WA Chairmans XI all got to 50 (Lynn 104) so do they deserve a look in (I would argue Allenby does but that was 6 months ago)?

almost a certain lock for the first test. the top five will be the same as the last test - warner, rogers, watson, clarke, smith

just to decide on number six and it's looking increasingly like bailey.

As somebody said in another thread the first 10 positions seem like locks.

warner
rogers
watson
clarke
smith
bailey
haddin
johnson
siddle
harris

If those 10 are all fit and don't get picked at the gabba i would be shocked.

Memo - John Inverarity COS Cricket Australia

Check D Warner's recent scores in all forms of red ball cricket.
Minus the concrete postage stamps in the Aus A series in SA last year.

The point is that on North Sydney oval, the ball pretty much sits up to be hit, and the fences are so close that you can just hit it in the air with minimal chance of being caught even if you mistime it. Unless we move the Ashes to North Sydney Oval, he won't be able to play anything like that in the tests, and if he tries to he'll get out. Good to see him hitting well, though. Prefer to see that than not making runs at least.
