I keep reading on multiple other threads that we are trading Davis here and there for a pick in the 20's to then trade that pick for ball.

Davis is a better player than ball at this stage of both their careers.

Davis has better skills.

Davis is quicker.

Davis has X-factor.

Don't get me wrong, ball is a great player but we shouldn't be getting rid of one of our best player to obtain him.....he should compliment our current midfield!

Thoughts?

The club is bonkers if they trade Davis for a second round pick just to complete the Ball trade.

Would be the stupidest thing we will have done for a very long time.

Freo's 2nd round pick (#20?) would be kept. Brett Peake would go to the Saints, along with our 2nd rounder (#30) for Ball.

Maybe.

Sounds entirely plausible to me.

How's Freo's pick getting involved in this?

edit: I guess it's in return for Davis? I don't believe for a second that the Saints would prefer pick 20 to Leon Davis given they just paid 17 for Lovett.

Ball is better than Davis.
Ball is a midfielder, Davis isn't and we need midfielders
we have medhurst, dick(has more X FACTOR than Davis),lockyer, didak to be small forwards

Trade Davis his over rated and has been since he was drafted

TRS, I just don't understand how Lovett is worth a first round pick but Davis is only worth pick 20? Davis is a star and AA status. Lovett will never reach such heights.

Brett Peake is worth nothing in a trade. I repeat, zilch.

We are better off doing a 3-way that sends Peake to the Saints, Ball to us and a 3rd round selection to Freo for Peake- because he would be lucky to even fetch that.

I agree, the issue I have with these boards is the speculation that goes on, Collingwood has not said Davis wants to leave, Davis has not said he wants to leave, his manager did say he was not going any where.

If it came down to it Davis is worth more then a second round pick if Lovett is worth pick 16 then Davis is worth pick 10

If he does want to leave and a 2nd round pick is all we are offered then I would want The Dockers Pick and Drum, trade the pick onto The Saints and bring in Ball

So we trade an AA contracted mid/fwd who is really coming of age for a spud in Peake and Ball who stuggled mid year to make the saints 22, is uncontracted and has had a lot of injury concerns.

I think once the Jolly trade goes through (Pick 14 & Dawes), i think with Ball being out of contract and wanting to leave....pick #30 and maybe a fringe player would be enough.

Leon needs to stay!

Davis (COLL) to Fremantle
Fremantle's 2nd round pick (#20) to Collingwood
Brett Peake (FREM) to St. Kilda
Collingwood's 2nd round pick (#30) to St. Kilda
Luke Ball (STK) to Collingwood

Just speculation at this stage though.

I expect age would be the mitigating factor. I'm not thrilled at the prospect of losing Davis either, but the fact remains he'll be 29 next year and doesn't carry injury well. :(

A player like Davis is worth a top 10 pick...period.
Firstly I would only even consider Davis if, and I'm yet to see any statement from he or the club to the effect, he wants the trade.
Secondly if we get any less than a top 10 pick we are getting shafted.

Just speculation at this stage though.

If this happens I wouldn't protest.

Leon would be a loss though given that he's in his prime, but I reckon Ball is a big gain. He's exactly what we need.

Based on whats unfolded this week to date, i agree. If Lovett is worth pick16, than Davis is worth more. The idea of a swap between Ball and Davis isnt appealling at all, something extra will be required.

Haven't heard that he wants to go and I love Leon but if he wants to go and isn't fully committed then I fear his form will fall away.

If that were the case then a trade is best alround. And I think this is about his value on the market.

There is speculation also that we're interested in Drum. So perhaps a discount on Drum could be worked into the deal, if indeed that's true.

Player trading is all about market forces, Leon (or any player for that matter) is only worth what a rival club is willing to part with in order to get him.

We might think a top 10 pick is fair, but ultimately our opinion doesn't count.

FWIW, I think the trade mooted by TRS is something I could live with - albeit a hypothetical trade at this point.

What some supporters on this forum fail to get through their heads is that you cant give up rubbihs and expect to recieve something good in return!!

We will have to trade someone good to get extra picks to get the deal done for both Jolly and Ball, i personally think we wont get either but who knows.

Ball is a fantastic midfielder, someone we will need because if you look ahead of the curve Obree is 30 and will be gone in a few years. Leon is 28!! Ball is only 25, Pies will give him a different role in the middle to ensure his body is ok.

GET BALL....GET JOLLY

No way Leon will be leaving, Pies have been fantastic to him over last couple of months with family troubles he has had & club will look forward to him repaying that support in a big way over next couple of seasons. I would doubt anyone could perform at peak with what he has been coping with but time will heal those wounds.

Lame... ****in lame... this is just ridicuous stuff now. Davis for Ball???? Are people ****in kidding!!!! DAVIS for BALL for christs sake!!!! Do we want to win a premiership??? Don't get me wrong, i'm all for trading and trading hard this trade period BUT AT WHAT COST!!! You don't give up A-Grade players for injury riddled players that wont improve us SIGNIFICANTLY. We need to keep Davis unless we can snare real talent, real a-graders or high picks. And give him to the Saints of all clubs - one of our biggest flag rivals - **** me this is ridiculous.

First I'll say I love Leon and would like something else in return for a Gain Ball Lose Davis trade, something along the lines of a ten spot upgrade in the draft that was mentioned with Freo involved would be good.

But we do want to win premierships, hence why some people want a trade like this to happen.

To win a premiership you need 22 players playing well in FINALS footy and especially the GRAND FINAL, something about 10 days ago Luke Ball did in a hard, tough contested footy game that he loves and finals is all about something we got exposed in two of our three finals, and we need.

Unfortunately Davis consistently goes missing in these type of games, this is why some people wouldn't be to upset with that trade.

If we are to snare Jolly then we will have to give up a decent player to get Ball as well I would think, if Jolly doesn't get done then we can get Ball with 14 and keep Leon and I would be happy with that as well.

Don't know really, but he's from the same junior club as Rusty Sidebottom.

He's listed as 191cm, 84kg, but he's spoken of as a 3rd tall/rebounding defender, the kind of which we have an oversupply.
