Just analysing the list I made, makes me think this could be a weaker draft than the previous 3 drafts have been, I can only find a top group of 20-25, I'm unsure if it's weak because of the lack of Victorians or because we have not had a chance to see much competitive football from Victoria?, a normal year would be 30-35 and a strong year like the super draft it was more like 40-45, 1 thing I noticed on reflection was I had only 19 Victorians in the 47 man list, which is much lower than the normal 55% Victorian representation in most drafts and I think this reason might be why the top group is lower than normal years.

I will make a list of some Victorian talent I believe have a chance of being drafted here just to put some names out there.

Harry Sharp - 180 70 GWV
Henry Walsh - 201 84 Geel
Lochlan Jenkins - 177 76 Oak
Connor Stone - 186 78 Oak
Charlie Byrne - 182 78 Murr/NSW
Jackson Cardillo - 185 77 Calder
Ryan Angwin - 181 62 Gipps
Josh Clarke - 181 65 East
Cody Raak - 191 77 West
Mace Cousins - 177 66 West
Will Bravo - 180 73 Dand
Daniel Bourke - 195 80 Gipps
Campbell Edwardes - 195 80 Calder
Noah Gadsby - 185 72 Geel
Jake Bowey - 173 65 Sand

There are some others I'm sure would have impressed if this season went ahead as schedule, but im a bit disappointed in the lack of high end talent from Victoria and it really does make sense why the u16 carnival from this age group was so poor from a Vic perspective imo.
How are Noah Gribble's chances? I know he's out injured, but he played pretty well in the futures game from memory

I had Gribble as a late draft chance, but now that the draft is likely going to be 2/3 the size of a normal draft, I think he will be one of the unlucky ones?, joining his brother in the VFL I think?

Harry Sharp has grown a bit according to ADC website. Now 184cm.

Surprised you haven’t mentioned Max Heath after Matt Rendell’s pump up, and the subsequent discussion about him.

Max Heath 201 87, Sand, he might be a really good ruck prospect, he only played 1 nab league game last yr and a preseason game, so he could be a bolter/Smokie?

I will have to watch the round 9, June 2 2019 Gippsland v Sandringham game to check out his game.

seeing as im trying to figure out what the Hawks will do, i'll do a Phantom Draft to figure out what i think might happen... based on table as at 14th July 2020

Pick 1 - Adelaide - Riley Thilthorpe - 200cm 99kg - Adelaide need a homegrown win after some ordinary drafts in recent times imo
Pick 2 - Western - Bid/Jamarra Ugle-Hagan - 194cm 84kg - Sydney will try to poach JUH for a buddy replacement, but the Dogs wont allow him to be sniped, JUH will become the highest pick Academy prospect ever most likely
Pick 3 - Sydney - Denver Grainger-Barras - 195cm 78kg - even though i really like Will Phillips, theres too many high value talls to be ignored
Pick 4 - North - Will Phillips - 179cm 78kg - boosting their already strong midfield with the best midfielder in the draft pool
Pick 5 - North - Elijah Hollands - 188cm 81kg - even after his injury he would be a high value target and i expect he will go around 5
Pick 6 - Fremantle - Nathan O'Driscoll - 187cm 76kg - this could be another homegrown win for Fremantle, getting one of the best inside mids in the draft
Pick 7 - Hawthorn - Jackson Callow - 194cm 96kg - we need talls and i really like the versatility and strong hands of Callow
Pick 8 - Collingwood - Bid/Reef McInnes - 192cm 84kg - Geelong will try and snipe a very talented tall mid/med forw, but Collingwood will match
Pick 9 - Geelong - Tanner Bruhn - 182cm 75kg - Geelong need a replacement for Ablett and Selwood soon and this will be 1 piece to do that in the near future
Pick 10 - Sydney - Bid/Breaden Campbell - 181cm 72kg - outside player with good athleticism, goal kicking and general kicking skills, Sydney will match
Pick 11 - Adelaide - Nikolas Cox - 199cm 82kg - Adelaide stock up on talls, would be a smart play, Cox could become a high value tall when he fills out a bit
Pick 12 - Gold Coast - Archie Perkins - 186cm 77kg - player who could develop into a medium forw or midfield
Pick 13 - Adelaide - Bid/Luke Edwards - 187cm 81kg - really liked his carnival last year, has been playing sanfl u18's so far this year, Adelaide should match
Pick 14 - Geelong - Oliver Henry - 187cm 77kg - highly talented marking medium def/forw, joining his brother at the cats
Pick 15 - Carlton - Eddie Ford - 186cm 80kg - strong contested half forward, was good in the trial for VM, was good in the futures game on GF day, solid for Jets
Pick 16 - St Kilda - Logan McDonald - 196cm 85kg - good leading forward for WA in the carnival last year, is behind a few other talls imo, but still a decent pick at this stage
Pick 17 - Richmond - Finlay Macrae - 184cm 75kg - midfield for Oakleigh, brother of WB Macrae
Pick 18 - Brisbane - Bid/Blake Coleman - 180cm 78kg - i predict dodoro will try and snipe Coleman but Brisbane match a bit earlier than expected
Pick 19 - Essendon - Zac Dumesny - 187cm 79kg - Zac seemed like an ok talent last year, but its his sanfl form that might put him up the rankings in 2020
Pick 20 - Geelong - Kaine Baldwin - 193cm 92kg - at this point they have Bruhn and Henry, they can afford to gamble with Baldwin and his knee injuries
Pick 21 - Hawthorn - Jack Ginnivan - 182cm 77kg - at this stage were looking for outside players or sml/med forws and i think Ginnivan will be a good option, we could also look at Bailey Laurie, theres a few inside mids still available, but we dont need them unfortunately
Pick 22 - Fremantle - Bid/Brandon Walker - 184cm 75kg - half back attracting a bid early 2nd round
Pick 23 - Brisbane - Zane Trew - 187cm 78kg - composed inside mid from WA
Pick 24 - Port Adel - Sam Berry - 181cm 81kg - tough inside mid from country victoria
Pick 25 - Melbourne - Oliver Davis - 180cm 69kg - tough inside mid from Tassie with a good kick on him

Surely Saints are all over Trew at 15.

Should read the discussion on @andleanback’s thread from July 2. Max Heath gets talked up a bit.

Thoughts on the two Essendon NGA boys mate?

Josh Eyre and Cody Brand

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Both are tall defenders around the 195cm mark and both very lightly built, Brand was a good performer for Calder, much more comfortable in the role of tall defender, Eyre was ok, but very raw, when they played together I always felt Brand was a much better prospect.

If I made a guess at their range, Brand I would guess at 30-50, Eyre I would guess could be a late-rookie chance?

Good game by McDonald on the weekend, my favourite moment was the one handed mark on the goal line, he really has fit in at WAFL seniors level easily and has improved on his game from last season, im glad he kicked that 55m goal In the last as that was a problem he had last year at the carnival, he should go top 10 now, the only issue I have and would keep him out of the elite group is my concern over his speed, but that's only a minor thing, his game overall is very strong.

I really liked the look of Jackson Ramsay the ex-pie for East Perth too, he is a player who could get a 2nd chance at AFL if he continues such impressive form.

so some small changes and write ups to my Elite, Top Tier and Potential Lists

Elite:
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (WB NGA)- Oakleigh - 194cm 79kg has shown in his underage year averaging near 3 goals all season that he can play the leading tall forward role very well consistently, the media attention he is getting nearly cements his pick 1 spot in the 2020 draft, plays like Josh Kennedy from the Eagles with a pinch of Buddys athleticism.
Will Phillips - Oakleigh - 179cm 78kg had an impact in his limited time playing for VM in the champs last year, outplayed Rowell and Anderson at times in the finals series in 2019 which is a tough feat, i cant fault his game, he is legit good.
Riley Thilthorpe - West Adel - 200cm 99kg athletic big man, ruck/forw, really good endurance, ground pick up pretty good for a big man, reminds me a bit of Brendan Lade, with his height, build and high end endurance with decent skills, he will be a handy addition to any team imo
Elijah Hollands - Murray - 188cm 80kg i've seen him in over half a dozen games as a hff, has really good marking technique, strong contested mark, played mostly as the link between midfield and forward with a goal every now and then, his carnival for VC was very good early and tapered off in the final game or so, his Futures game where he went into the midfield was very impactful and he was BOG from my PoV, was a favourite by many to go pick 1 until he did his ACL in pre-season

Top Tier:
Nathan O'Driscoll - Perth - 187cm 76kg a bull inside mid in the mould of Clayton Oliver, kicking is ok, but he bursts through a contest and can create a lot of drive, with his big frame
Logan McDonald - Perth - 196cm 85kg a leading forward who is doing very well in his 2 games in the WAFL this year and in pre-season games, leading the WAFL goal kicking with 7 goals, his game on the weekend showed me he has improved and should go top 10 especially if he keeps up this rich vein of form
Denver Grainger-Barras - Swan Dist - 195cm 78kg a player i have seen a little of but i have liked his intercept marking and general defensive play, im unsure if he should be elite/top tier, i would like to see him play WAFL and see how he fares against men and if he has improved or stagnated in 2020 to have a better read
Archie Perkins - Sandringham - 186cm 77kg highly skilled medium forw, good mark and goal kicker, probably the best sml/med forw in the pool as far as talent and goal scoring ability
Reef McInnes (Coll NGA)- Oakleigh - 191cm 83kg fast running tall mid who can play outside and inside mid to good levels, can also kick some freakish goals when he played forward pocket, has a back injury atm, highly talented
Tanner Bruhn - Geelong - 182cm 73kg had an ACL injury in 2019, on his return had a good game and showed some star potential, should play more in the nableague country games later this year and im looking forward to seeing more of him
Braeden Campbell (Syd A)- Sydney A - 178cm 71kg outside player (hbf/wing) with a good left foot and a goal kicker, has some good athletic traits, his profile got a big boost from kicking 3 goals early in the futures game on GF day 2019
Alex Davies (GCS A)- Gold Coast A - 189cm 76kg tall inside mid with clean poss, was a stand out for me last year for Gold Coast A, played well in the futures game and now he will likely be pre-listed by GCS prior to the draft
Jackson Callow - Tasmania - 192cm 88kg vice like hands, kicked a few bags of goals for the Tassie Devils and is doing well in the TSL which is also good, i like his flexibility for a tall and can kick a good goal from set shots or snaps, not the best interviewer, has a good ground game.
Oliver Henry - Geelong - 187cm 77kg chb/chf, good in the air, similar to his brother at Geelong, took 12 marks in a heavily rainy game last year, mostly played in defense, but had a few good games as a forward too
Nikolas Cox - Northern - 199cm 82kg had a good few games for VM in the carnival, is very skinny so more a project than a guy who can play straight away, very skilled tall man, played well in pre-season before the season was cancelled
Eddie Ford - Western - 186cm 80kg very aggressive contested forward, good mark and can have a good influence on games, medium forward who could play some time midfield to expand his game.
Finlay Macrae - Oakleigh - 184cm 73kg brother of WB Macrae, good mid for Oakleigh, inside/outside mid from the strong Oakleigh midfield group
Luke Edwards (Adel f/s)- Glenlg - 187cm 81kg really good tall hbf in the Birchall mould, good rebound, good skills, good run and carry
Zac Dumesny - Sth Adel - 187cm 79kg i thought he was ok last year, but this year he has been really good for Sth Adel in the SANFL so i think he may have improved and so i have put him in this group, clever midfielder who can play on the flanks as well
Tariek Newchurch (Adel NGA)- North Adel - 181cm 73kg really skillful player, have only seen a few clips, but he has talent and i wish i could see him in a league game to confirm what i believe and that is that he is top tier in this draft pool
Zane Trew - Swan Dist - 187cm 78kg composed mid from WA, lacks a little pace, inside mid, would love to see him play WAFL soon

AFL Potential:
Kaine Baldwin - Glenlg - 193cm 92kg - (should be higher rated but 2 ACL injuries)
Sam Berry - Gippsland - 181cm 81kg
Oliver Davis - Tasmania - 180cm 69kg
Jack Ginnivan - Bendigo - 182cm 77kg
Charlie Lazzaro - Geelong - 177cm 73kg
Connor Downie (Haw NGA)- Eastern - 183cm 81kg
Bailey Laurie - Oakleigh - 178cm 76kg
Blake Coleman (Bris A)- Bris A - 180cm 78kg
Jack Carroll - East Freo - 188cm 79kg
Brandon Walker (Frem)- East Freo - 184cm 75kg
Errol Gulden (Syd A)- Syd A - 172cm 68kg (should be higher rated, but because he is small many are not rating him high)
Caleb Poulter - WWT - 190cm 79kg
Tom Powell - Sturt - 180cm 73kg
Sam Collins - Tasmania - 185cm 75kg
Joel Western (Frem)- Clarem - 172cm 68kg
Cody Brand (Ess NGA)- Calder - 195cm 81kg
Heath Chapman - West Perth - 193cm 81kg
Zac Reid - Gippsland - 202cm 82kg
Lachlan Jones (Port NGA) - WWT - 185cm 89kg (if he can keep up some good SANFL form might push his way into second group)
Joel Jeffery (GCS A)- NT/GCS - 189cm 74kg
Jye Sinderberry - West Adel - 189cm 80kg
Brodie Lake (GCS A)- Peel/NT/GCS - 186cm 70kg
Carter Michael (Bris A)- Bris A - 187cm
Clayton Gay - Dandenong - 183cm 71kg
Thomas Panuccio - Murray -179cm 73kg
Isiah Winder - Peel - 179cm 79kg

Love reading your draft analysis Davo :thumbsu:, In your opinion who has the higher ceiling Blake Coleman or his brother Keidean? How do you compare their game styles?

Love reading your draft analysis Davo :thumbsu:, In your opinion who has the higher ceiling Blake Coleman or his brother Keidean? How do you compare their game styles?

Because of Keideans running game he can play more areas of the ground, like he can play hb or mid or forw and have an influence, Blake is more your x-factor goal kicking forward, he played mostly as a hf and kicked a couple of good long goals from what I saw last year.

Harry Sharp - GWV - 184cm 70kg
I still like Jack Allen as roughy. I've watched him play with my son for a few years. Swan Districts kid. About 194cm. No one ever knows where to play him. Went up to reserves on the weekend and was best on. Be interesting to watch his development this year.

so some small changes and write ups to my Elite, Top Tier and Potential Lists

Logan McDonald - Perth - 196cm 85kg a leading forward who is doing very well in his 2 games in the WAFL this year and in pre-season games, leading the WAFL goal kicking with 7 goals, his game on the weekend showed me he has improved and should go top 10 especially if he keeps up this rich vein of form

seeing as this list is 48, i want to round it out to 50, i also realised i missed a player, for some reason he slipped my mind, but he is too good not to mention and that is Lochlan Jenkins, i also wanted to add Max Heath to the list, i intend to watch his game from last year soon. with Matt Rendell being super impressed by him i should add him at least to the main list to fill out the top 50.

Lochlan Jenkins - Oakleigh - 177cm 76kg
Max Heath - Sandringham - 201cm 87kg

There isn’t much point to watching Heaths game last year, has improved out of sight from last year and is a totally different player to what he showed last year.

I chose Jenkins in a phantom draft. His best is amazing and I think he was ready for a real breakout year this year.

19 year old options for the 2020 draft, these 3 really stand out as players from the 2019 pool, there were a couple of SA players like Shute and Park, but they had poor endurance scores for outside players, so i understand the reasoning behind not recruiting them.

*Josh Gore, GCS A 178cm 77kg, kicked 6 goals in 2 QAFL games this year, good agility and speed, quick mind, good goal sense
*Mitch Mellis, Eastern 173cm 72kg, his height is the only concern, he is a highly skilled player, mid or small forw
*Adam Carafa, Northern 184cm 72kg, quality inside mid with high contested numbers and clearances, didn't get much hype, but is a quality player, unbelievably under rated imo.

Doubt any 19yo Victorians get taken this year without being able to play vfl.
Also any 19yos overages in nab league programs are no longer allowed to be part the squads, training etc due to covid restrictions.

Josh Gore is playing well in the QAFL this year and it inspired me to think who else was stiff from last year, I went over the pros and cons and these 3 stood out to me as being unlucky, Mellis was amazing last year for Eastern, although he did struggle a little for VM, Carafa was great for Northern and I thought he was really good for VM in the trial and in his appearances for VM in the carnival, i think they have a chance with a lot of footage of their draft season available to recruiters to mull over.

Usually players like Meillis have to go toil in the vfl for 2-3 years to get their chance. Carafa I think doesn’t have the athletic ability, same reason as to why Mott and Stapleton didn’t get picked up.

16 of my top 50 are academy linked players, close to 1/3rd, and that's without a few like Borlase, Schofield and Raak ect
21 of my top 50 are Victorian, which is 42%, 13% less than normal
the terrible u16s Victorian performances from this draft pool are an issue
the Victorian bolters will likely roll into the 2021 draft pool, because of no footy in 2020 in Vic
I have a top tier of 21 with 2-3 potentially added in near future, in 2019 which was a pretty strong draft I had approx 35 top tier players

I was thinking of making a top 50 with no academy players, so it's the 50 best non aligned talent that clubs can actually draft in the open pool.
