The First Round Contenders: Early Top 30
  • The First Round Contenders: Early Top 30

    Jason Horne
    - Sth Adel - 182cm 75kg - likely 1st pick, played well in the SANFL as a 17 year old
Josh Rachele - Murray - 180cm 78kg - top 3 - behind Horne he is my favourite player in this draft pool
Nick Daicos - Oakleigh - 183cm 72kg - (Coll F/S)have yet to see, so unsure, but many draft experts have him highly rated (likely top 3?)
Tyler Sonsie - Eastern - 181cm 76kg - probably top 5, was good as a HFF in 2019, but i expect improvement from more midfield time
Josh Sinn - Sandringham - 186cm 72kg - top 10, only seen highlights, looks like a good prospect
Jacob Van Rooyen - Claremont - 194cm 88kg - top 5, had a great Colts GF, leads all day so likely good endurance, as agile and quick as a midfielder, lots to like
Sam Banks - Tassie - 187cm 73kg - first round, seems like Tassie kids get judged harder by recruiters, but this one has some good traits
Joshua Browne - East Frem - 184cm 72kg - first round, saw a WAFL Colts game and he and Hagan who is in next years pool were better than Carroll and Walker
Braden Andrews - Oakleigh - 189cm 83kg - first round, have yet to see him, on here on reputation
Lachlan Brooks - Sandringham - 180cm 76kg - first round, have yet to see him, on here on reputation
Campbell Chesser - Sandringham - 186cm 83kg - first round, have yet to see him, on here on reputation
Blake Howes - Sandringham - 190cm 79kg - first round, have yet to see him, on here on reputation
Ben Hobbs - GWV - 183cm 80kg - first round, played forward and mid for the Rebels, looked like he had clean skills
Charlie Molan - GWV - 186cm 83kg - first round, had a couple of good games for the Rebels last year, 1 game in particular was very strong as an interceptor
Matthew Johnson - Subiaco - 190cm 78kg - first round, was a big reason Subi won the Premiership in the WAFL Colts, impacted the game strongly, good interceptor in mid and down back, and always uses it intelligently
Cooper Beecken - Glenlg - 190cm 73kg - first round, very clever, intercept player, similarities with Will Day and other good AFL medium defenders
    Josh Fahey - GWS/GCS A? - 186cm 76kg - first round, i hear he is still in GWS A?
Rhett Bazzo - Swan Dist - 194cm 74kg - first round, have yet to see him, on here on reputation
Lewis Rayson - Glenlg - 181cm 64kg - first round, have yet to see him, on here on reputation
James Willis - Nth Adel - 180cm 73kg - first round, was a stand out in the u17 SA game before the All-Stars game, speed, x-factor, flair, skill
Luca Whitelum - Central Dist - 188cm 79kg - first round, quality medium forward, kicks goals and can lead up the ground, good endurance and skills
Arlo Draper - Sth Adel - 184cm 70kg - first round, didnt have a great All Stars game, but has a strong reputation
Matthew Roberts - Sth Adel - 183cm 76kg - first round, have yet to see him, on here on reputation
Neil Erasmus - Subiaco - 185cm 77kg - first round, played mostly in the PSA, but his WAFL Colts GF was super impressive and nearly won the B.O.G. kicking 4 goals and setting up 3-4 other clear shots at goal, very sharp mover and clean disposal
Jake Soligo - Eastern - 179cm 79kg - first round, have yet to see him, on here on reputation
Alex Lukic - Oakleigh - 196cm 85kg - first round, looked good in 2019, will have to see his improvement next year, when he gets to play main KPF, was one of the better KPF's at the u16 champs
Lachlan Rankin - Oakleigh - 182cm 68kg - first round, have yet to see him, on here on reputation
Josh Ward - Northern - 181cm 74kg - first round/second round, speed and some ok skills
Ned Long - Northern - 192cm 88kg - first round, strong bodied tall mid, good skills, good footy IQ
Josh Goater - Calder - 190cm 79kg - first round, have yet to see him, on here on reputation

    The Other Draft Contenders:

    S.A.
Shay Linke - Central Dist - 188cm 75kg - another good medium defender from SA, i liked his performance in the u17s futures game
Harry McInnes - Glenlg - 190cm 85kg - effective KPF, but at this stage is a bit short and missed the SA squad, so speculator at this point
Matthew Dnistriansky - Norwood - have yet to see him, on here on reputation
Morgan Ferres - Sturt - have yet to see, on here on reputation
Cooper Murley - Norwood - 177cm 66kg - seems very small, didnt have the best game in the SANFL all stars game
Brayden Calvett - WWT - 177cm 69kg - running outside mid with decent contested side, skillful, had a good first half in the sanfl u17 futures game
Jase Burgoyne - WWT - 184cm 62kg - (Port F/S)very slim, has done well at school footy and sanfl u18's so far, also was decent in the SA all stars game, the small concern and why i dont have him in the top 30 has been that as he has played in higher quality games, the less impactful he has been, so im hoping he performs more solidly next year in big games.
Adam Heath - Nth Adel - 192cm 85kg - played a bit of ruck/KPD/KPF and did well in all positions, didnt get in the recent SA squad though, maybe a bit short at 192cm to be KPP in the SA squad?
Bailey Gal - Norwood - 178cm 74kg - i liked how he played hb, good skills and smarts, not in SA squad
Naisiah Wanganeen - Glenlg - 187cm 62kg - (Adel NGA?)similar to Burgoyne in that he is super slim, but a competitor with good skills, the small difference with Burgoyne was he did step up in the big game and the more likely to go top 30 atthis point imo.
Isiah Dudley - Central Dist - 164cm 65kg - too small at 164cm, at this stage.

*i just wanted to note that even though McInnes and Gal are not in the early squad for SA, they are really good talents to keep an eye out for, Heath i like but i can see reasons as to why he might miss out on the SA squad.

(Jackson Callow - Norwood) -- The 2 players i thought were unlucky not to be recruited in 2020 National Draft (Baldwin went to Ess in SPP)
    (Brodie Lake - Central Dist)

    The Process of Deciding Rankings
  • i just wanted to explain my way of making my lists and how they change throughout the year, so in 2018 and 2019 i watched games with a blank canvas (not knowing which players were already picked for rep teams or anything), so basically i would watch games and if i liked a player i would add them to my lists(often finding out later that said player was in the WA or SA or VM or VC or Allies teams), this changed for this year and my list for next year as there was no footy and so getting lists of players to keep an eye out for was easier when they had already made state rep teams or the AFL Academy ect(although i did have an extensive list and good idea about the 2020 draft pool from keeping tabs on the underagers in 2019 when i made my list of over 100 players before anyone had even made a top 30 for 2020), i dont know which is better, doing the work from scratch and going a little against the grain OR doing work from a position of knowing most of the talent before seeing them play and then going from there?. Then the next thing i would do is find out their height, weight to add to the posts, as the draft came closer i would check their stats and look at their production in their position and finally i would evaluate their combine results or pre-season testing to see how they fare, although watching them in game is a better way to evaluate speed or agility ect imo, having testing results might indicate future improvement?

so basically its a 4 stage process, 1. watch games to see how good they are(make notes of the top end players and then ignore the rest basically), 2. get information about their physical stature, 3. check on their production related to their position, 4. then check their testing for indications of future improvement and whether they have the endurance to run out games at the AFL level.

i have found out last year that keeping an eye out for players who do well in the u16 champs is a good indication of where the talent is likely to come from in the draft year as a starting point, some dont develop from the u16's so its not an exact science, more a guide.

It usually takes about 5 games to understand what a player is like and what range they should go in the draft, because of variables for example, you could see them play the best game of their lives in the first game you see them play OR you could see their worst game of their lives in the first game you see them play, so you need a sample size to understand their average performance, their highs and lows and thats why players go up and down lists, you are seeing different aspects after each viewing, watching more than 5 games just gives you more information and sometimes if they position change and show they can play in a different position as naturally as their main position it gives them more value in my eyes ect.

Joshua Clarke (Eastern) was a player i really rated in 2019 and it was his production that made me drop him from my lists in 2020 as an example of how a player can be a favourite of mine, but if he doesnt follow it up with production as in disposals, marks, tackles, goals ect, i cant back him in and i dont think AFL clubs will draft him without that production, but good luck to him next year.

so thats how i usually go about my draft scouting, having inside knowledge of most of the players that get drafted is a blessing and a curse, its a blessing when you know your club does well and a curse when you question why your club went in a different more risky direction, but thats about it.

    Early Top 9 for 2021
  • i just wanted to put out a group of players that i think will go pretty early in 2021

my Top 9 for 2021, Daicos i have in here based on others read

Jason Horne - great acceleration and speed, good height and size, shows bravery in the contest, didnt seem out of place in the SANFL seniors as a 17 year old, good leap for a 6 footer, tackles men in the SANFL, decent user of the footy.
Josh Rachele - good leading ability in the forward line, wins 1 on 1 contests, as a 16 year old was already one of the best players at Murray in 2019, goal kicker, was talked about as the best player at the u16 carnival.
Nick Daicos - yet to see
Josh Sinn - tall running winger, left footer, line breaker, has some good speed and evasive skills.
Tyler Sonsie - clever player who played mostly as a half forward for Eastern, but you can tell he would be a better performer in the centre as an inside mid, good contested game, nice mark and use of the ball
Jacob Van Rooyen - endurance based tall forward, good athletic attributes, goal kicking is good, hard working player, leads all day
Sam Banks - attacking inside mid, kicked a goal from the centre circle in the NAB League against Oakleigh, as a 16 year old looked a class prospect, good movement on the field, good use of the footy, goal kicking mid
Matthew Johnson - tall mid/hbf, was used in the WAFL Colts GF as a mid who intercepted off of half back and organised counter attacks for Subiaco, reliable and composed, good height.
Ben Hobbs - was an impressive hff/mid for GWV as a 16 year old, competitive mid with clever disposal and good work rate, will improve with more midfield opportunity

i have yet to see half of the talent pool, but i like these players + Daicos as the top talents at this stage, i just need to see more games in 2021 to get a more accurate read.

    Northern V Sandringham Player Reviews
  • a few guys who stood out in the Northern V Sandringham game

    Sandringham:
Finn Callaghan - played well on the wing, good running patterns, takes on opponents and had some good runs, i would say he has jumped into first round calculations with his past 2 performances in 2021

Campbell Chesser - reliable midfielder with a bit of pace when needed, solid inside mid and contested player who can find space and link up with runners on the outside, he improved his draft stocks with his performance today

Josh Sinn - played defence and midfield today, was a bit shaky in defence with the ball in air and with his use of the footy being a bit wayward, also didnt have the biggest impact in the midfield, i think he lacks something to be a top 5 pick tbh.

Luca MacNab - for a small defender he is very brave and skillful, had a great game and will see if he can have similar impact during the season

Jacob Edwards and Max Heath both looking like solid rucks, completely over shadowed Norths rucks
Darby Hipwell and Charlie McKay had solid games without being great
Howes and Soylemez both had moments where they impacted the game as forwards

    Northern:
Ned Long - i really like him as a player, not only is he very strong, but he has good endurance to run out games and rarely makes mistakes

Darcy Wilmot - really good CHB, intercepting, good under pressure, clean, reliable, good start to the season so far

Ewan MacPherson - good at winning the ball, good handling, his disposal is a bit sloppy at times but most other parts of his game are good

Josh Ward - good run and general play, i think he is more 2nd/3rd round potential from what i have seen imo

Joel Trudgeon, Joel Fitzgerald and Jackson Archer - not as good as last week, they had ok games with some sloppy disposal and decision making, but both can win the ball and in general are good at feeding team mates.

    Oakleigh V Eastern Player Reviews
  • 1/2 Time impressions.
    Oakleigh:
Nick Daicos - is a top 3 pick guaranteed, could be in the conversation with Jason Horne as a possible pick 1 if he continues to play at this level imo.

Dylan Thomas - really impressive small forward, i have liked what i have seen so far

Lachlan Rankin - has been good at times

Yousef Dib - Collingwood have another good NGA to bid on, maybe within first 2 rounds?, similarities with Quaynor, position, build, style of play ect, he has built a solid frame, last time i saw him in 2019 he was a lot skinnier than he is now

Scott Beilby - StK NGA looking like a good prospect too, similarities to Ben Long, in position, build and style.

#18 Rule - tall skinny defender, good in the air and competitive player

#2 Brown - has been good as well.

    Eastern:
Tyler Sonsie - good game so far in the midfield, but is a bit behind Daicos in the battle of the top tier mids

Jake Soligo - having a good game also, trying to curb Daicos' game and win it himself

Tom Taylor - decent small forward, clever and strong mark

Zachary Cileceken - Haw NGA, medium tall defender, love his aggression and impact on contests.

    Bendigo v Gippsland Player Reviews
  • 1/2 time impressions - Bendigo v Gippsland

    Bendigo:
Cooper Hamilton - seems like a good midfielder, kicked a nice goal from 45m, generally smooth moving and good decision making, i think he fits more into 2nd round calculations, lacks the athleticism of others to be a first rounder imo

Hugh Hamilton - he is more your lanky flanker, also quite talented and competitive, could be a mid draft option from what ive seen

Nathan Kay - has some good traits, another i think could be in draft calculations from the pioneers

Billy Barnes - has been ok as a tall forward so far

    Ryan O'Keefe - solid player

    Gippsland:
Luis D'Angelo - a 19 year old that has been very impressive, at this point its between him and Doultree as my favourites so far, both on the losing team, which is odd

Chance Doultree - agile and slim mid, has been quite good so far and seems likely to get drafted decently high imo

Nathan Noblett - another good player that i think has a chance mid/late draft

Mitchell Moschetti - solid contributor so far

Max Walton - solid defender so far

i have ticks next to 6 players names that i think are possible draftees for 2021, C.Hamilton, H.Hamilton, Kay, D'Angelo, Doultree, Noblett

    GWV V Dandenong Player Reviews
  • 1/2 time impression - GWV V Dandenong

    GWV:
Blake Scott - continues to impress with speed agility and smarts, playing mid and small forw

Charlie Molan - is playing well, not as many intercept marks, but just strong in the contest

Sam Butler - has been a solid player as well

Jye Lockett - kicked a great goal from 45m near the boundary after the 1/4 time siren, big goal

Kai Lohmann - also kicked a long goal

    Dandenong:
Judson Clarke - has been everywhere, good clearances in the middle and a nice snap goal in the forward line, looks a good prospect for this years draft

Clayton Gay - has been handy up forward

James Cahill - kicked a great goal on a tight angle and has been creative

Max Gregory - has been solid

Miller Bergman - has also been solid

    NAB League U19s Player Reviews
  • some of the NAB League talent that has impressed me so far this year

    19 year olds:
Oliver Davis - (TAS) again shows his wares as an inside midfielder, he is more your hard work, in and under type, probably needs to improve his athleticism side of his game, but is doing quite well again at NAB League after he was really good in 2019 and good in the TSL in 2020, if he had more leg speed he would be valued more highly.

Cody Raak - (Western Jets) is playing well as that medium sized defender, cleaning up the contests and creating a lot of rebound out of defense.

Noah Gribble - (Geelong) also having a good season after his knee injury, is averaging good numbers in poss, marks and r50.

Chance Doultree - (Gippsland) a 19 year old that has come from nowhere to put in some impressive performances, i might have gone a bit too high with my initial rating, but i do like how he plays and has put in 3 good games to start the season.

Luis D'Angelo - (Gippsland) another 19 year old that has come from nowhere to be a decent option, he has had a couple good games and put his name up there.

Jacob Edwards - (Sandringham) another 19 year old to put their hand up, so much so that he has over shadowed Max Heath in the ruck, although there is not a huge difference between them in the ruck, Edwards is much better around the ground and can play forward kicking a good number of goals so far this season compared to Max who seems more Tap orientated big bodied ruck

Max Heath - (Sandringham) had some wraps off of a pre-season game last year, he seems good in the ruck with his tap work, but is limited around the ground, good luck beating Sandringham in the ruck this season, with Edwards and Heath, then you have Visenti as a 3rd option, they are blessed with rucks and probably have 2 of the best rucks if not the best in the NAB this year.

Sam Clohesy - (Calder) another to come from nowhere to impress for Calder playing a couple good games and putting his name out there as 1 to look out for

Ewan MacPherson - (Northern) he is a good competitor, but his disposal is a bit wayward, but he is worth mentioning as he has F/S connections to the Bulldogs and knows how to win the footy

Dylan Thomas - (Oakleigh) was impressive in the game against Eastern where he kicked 4 goals and looked like he would fit into an AFL team quite comfortably, need to see more of his games, but as an early call, he has something about his game as a small forward he seems very creative, strong mark and good converter.

Luke Cleary - (Sandringham) has been dominating for Sandy in defence, must be a good chance to get drafted at some stage

Darby Hipwell - (Sandringham) has been good for Sandy as well so far, solid midfielder and has added to the impressive depth at Sandringham this season

Ned Moyle - (Oakleigh) in the top 4 rucks in the NAB League from what i have seen so far this year

Eren Soylemez - (Sandringham) dangerous forward for Sandy is playing how i would expect Howes to be playing atm

    NAB League U18s Player Reviews
  • as for the 18 year old group in this years NAB League theres a bunch of players im liking and i'll list them here

Nick Daicos - (Oakleigh) he seems to be the best in the NAB League this year, plus kicks goals for fun
Tyler Sonsie - (Eastern) not far behind Daicos, doesnt have that match winning ability that Daicos has, but is a good mid in his own right
Sam Banks - (Tassie) unfortunately broke a wrist, but was in top form before he got injured
Ben Hobbs - (GWV) i liked him in 2019 and has had 1 game in 2020 where he also looked good
Ned Long - (North) strong bodied mid/forw, averages over 20 poss a game and has 7 goals in 3 games i believe, quality player imo
Josh Sinn - (Sandringham) love his game, flaws and all, he attacks the ball and contest in midfield, good mark in the air, the only things holding him back imo are his wayward kicking at times, especially when he is in space with no pressure.
Josh Rachele - (Murray) has not dominated as often as he did in 2019, which has made me drop him down the order a little
Campbell Chesser - (Sandringham) has not averaged big numbers, but i have liked how he plays nonetheless, missed round 3 game
Finn Callaghan - (Sandringham) not as dynamic as Sinn with his runs although close, much more consistent user of the footy so far this year

this group imo are good value, then these guys are in the next group imo

Connor MacDonald - (Dandenong) getting great numbers that cant be ignored, isnt a star player, but really solid in all areas
James Cahill - (Dandenong) another solid player from Dandenong who could be a late consideration
Judson Clarke - (Dandenong) athletic midfielder who has a good jump, agility and run who has been good so far
Max Walton - (Gippsland) speed and good leap as a medium defender, good interceptor and run from defense
Josh Ward - (Northern) speedy small mid, has good numbers and good performances
Joel Fitzgerald - (Northern) poss winning defender, providing good disposal from defence
Darcy Wilmot - (Northern) good intercept medium tall defender for Northern, has had some impressive games so far this season
Jackson Archer - (Northern) medium defender with pace and smarts, clever player who looks likely to make it at the next level
Cooper Hamilton - (Bendigo) another solid midfielder who is the main guy for his team
Hugh Hamilton - (Bendigo) medium forward who has a few tricks up his sleeve and provides a competitive option up forw for his team
Nathan Kay - (Bendigo) solid player who could put his name up there for consideration
Tom Brown - (Murray) a player i liked in 2019, then had good combine results in pre-season and has been ok so far this year
Josh Gibcus - (GWV) a tall defender who can mark in defence, put his name up early for consideration
Charlie Molan - (GWV) a solid medium defender who has been decent, but might need to step it up to get in the draft conversation
Blake Scott - (GWV) competitive small forward, good speed, agility and smarts
Alex Lukic - (Oakleigh) has not performed to expectations yet, has missed a lot of shots at goal, so might drop down the rankings
Scott Beilby - (Oakleigh) decent half back/mid and i want to see more of him as the year goes
Yousef Dib - (Oakleigh) is looking good so far, so Collingwood look to have 2 good players this year
Henry Brown - (Oakleigh) a small player who has been good in spurts, one i need to see more of
Jed Rule - (Oakleigh) a good tall defender who can intercept and control the aerial contests
Braden Andrews - (Oakleigh) was disappointing before injury put him out, will have to see how he comes back later in the year
Lachlan Rankin - (Oakleigh) good player in bursts, clever and skillful player
Blake Howes - (Sandringham) a good classy leading forward, has not got going yet in the first 3 games yet
Luca MacNab - (Sandringham) has been really good as a small defender, just really reliable disposal and good under pressure
Caleb Lewis - (Sandringham) another good tall defender, but i need to see more of him, but he looks good so far
Luke Nankervis - (Sandringham) has been really impressive as a forward flank, i want to see more of him to make a good read
Mitch Owens - (Sandringham) Sandy have so much depth this year and Owens is just another solid player who i want to see more of
Toby Conway - (Geelong) one of the best rucks in the NAB League
Josh Goater - (Calder) solid mid and has been one of the best from calder so far this season with good i50 numbers
Jake Soligo - (Eastern) next to Sonsie is the best midfielder at Eastern this year imo

    Tassie V Eastern Player Reviews
  • Tassie V Eastern impressions, Tassie are a good unit this year.

    Tasmania:
Jye Menzie - playing midfield instead of small forw, he has been best on ground so far, absolutely quality first half, i did not expect that, he might do enough to put his hand up as a possible mid season draft prospect if he continues this vein of form

Sam Banks - looks a top class player, playing hbf and mid, moves well, good athletic movements and his goal early in the first was what you would expect at AFL level

Logan Elphinstone - 202cm 87kg - good around the ground ruck, very slim, but has good footy skills and IQ, was caught in some pressure situations and handled them with ease, especially for a big man. although he lost the ruck duels to his opponent who looked about 20 kgs bigger.

Oliver Davis - again playing a consistent midfield role

Lachlan Cowan - found one for 2022 draft, this kid has a good athletic profile from how he moves on field, clean hands and a bit of skill, depending on his development he has a good chance.

Young and Holmes - look like good forwards

then theres a bunch of Tassie guys who look solid at the level Sanders, Gardner, Lowe, Smith, White and Foley

    Eastern:
Greg Lord - was the best for Eastern so far, taking a bunch of intercept marks and trying to rebound from the onslaught of Tassie attacks

Mitchell Shruk - also trying to rebound the flurry of attacks from Tassie

Tyler Sonsie - struggled to get into the game in the first half, definitely had his colours lowered, i think the Ranges may struggle if they cant get a good group in the midfield to help Sonsie, went forward and was productive with a couple and some good efforts.

Keeling, Soligo, Cilecken were solid contributors for Eastern, but it was a rough first half.

AFL Academy V Geelong VFL Player Reviews
  • Half Time AFL Academy V Geelong VFL (Geelong 7.10 to 1.4 AFLA)

you can see the AFL Academy have not been together much this year because of all the covid restrictions, they are struggling to play as a team compared to previous years

Players who have caught my attention from the AFLA so far:
    1. Josh Fahey - i think he has been the most composed and most comfortable at the level out of all the kids, i think he might go up peoples rankings after this performance

    2. Nick Daicos - playing his role of getting a lot of touches and controlling the spread of the ball, had a chance to kick a goal from 45m near the boundary that fell a meter short, but looking like he belongs

    3. Toby Conway - sharing the ruck load with Moyle who has looked ok, but for me Conway has stood out around the ground, marking, tackling, spoiling, he does it all

    4. Cooper Hamilton - so far has been great off of half back/mid, has made good decisions and has been clean with disposal

    5. Jason Horne - has not dominated, but has shown signs of his quality, strong marks, strong tackles, quick decision making, theres a lot to work with

Matthew Johnson, Neil Erasmus and Josh Gibcus have also been in the best players so far, im hoping the AFLA start gelling and get a little more competitive

AFL Academy V Geelong VFL Big Improvers
  • after watching the Geelong VFL V AFLA (149-19) some players increased their value, some consolidated their positions and a few theres a couple of questions about whether they can handle the bigger bodies ect, wonderful insight into how they can step up to the level imo.

i want to highlight the players who increased their value substantially in that performance imo

Josh Fahey - well that performance was great, has to go top 10 now imo, GWS will be happy and annoyed, happy they have a quality kid who can step up to the level, annoyed that they couldnt get him with a late first.

Nick Daicos - another great performance from him, confirms him as the 2nd best talent in the draft behind Horne

Jason Horne - consistent 4 quarter effort, was strong and powerful, showed off his speed in a couple of moments, has to be #1 pick

Cooper Hamilton - he has gone from late first 2nd rounder, to likely middle first round, was strong all game and showed off his distance running late in the game chasing down opponents and had clean disposal all game.

Neil Erasmus - great in the air and usually clean disposal, really showed some class and had some good moments for AFLA

Matthew Johnson - was one of AFLA most consistent and best performers, was involved in many contests and stood out as one of the best midfielders in the draft pool

Toby Conway - he did really well all game even when not in the ruck, got on the wrong end of some dodgey umpire decisions, weird free kicks against, but was proabaly the best ruck/tall performance for AFLA

Josh Rachele - did some good stuff late even though he was cramping, didnt get a lot of opportunity because of the low i50 count along with most of the forwards, but kicked a 55m+ goal in the 3rd and was one of the few AFLA that could match it physically with the VFL team.

a few more had some good moments that are worth mentioning Mac Andrew, Finn Callaghan, Josh Gibcus, Jase Burgoyne, the rest were a bit disappointing from my PoV. (Matthew Roberts played out of position as a forward flanker and didnt play that well, im less disappointed with him as he played out of position, but still a bit disappointed)

it was hard to get to a good 30, in previous lists my last 5 or so have been names i have just put out there, but this one i think is more accurate, theres a few others i like from SA, like Shay Linke, Cooper Beecken and James Willis, theres a few vic kids like Hugh Hamilton, Greg Lord, Charlie Molan, Max Walton, Jed Rule, Mac Andrew ect. (Braden Andrews im not 100% sold on, but i felt like he had some good performances as a 16 yr old at the champs that he deserved a mention, but i will have to see more of his games, but everyone else on the list of 30 i like so far)

    Murray V GWV Player Reviews
  • watching the Murray V GWV game, impressions

Murray: no one really stood out for Murray, but there were a group of solid contributors and they play a well drilled team game, the ones i liked the look of for Murray were guys i would want to keep tabs on during the year, unfortunately most of the good players are 19 year olds as you would expect as they are more developed, but less likely to be drafted.

    Kade Chalcraft, 19
    Charlie Byrne, 19
    Patrick Parnell, 19
    Ben Ashley-Cooper, 19
    Ethan Warburton, 19
    Daniel Turner, 19
    Thomas Panuccio, 19
    Toby Murray - 198cm 80kg
#23 - i dont know the identity of this player but he was one of the best for Murray
    Tom Brown - 186cm 71kg

    GWV:
Fraser Marris 19, was clearly the best on ground, which is probably why he got the AFLA late call up and he did ok in the AFLA game as well which can only help his mid season draft chances

    Jack Bambury - 179cm 79kg
    Kai Lohmann - 185cm 76kg
    Jamieson Ballantyne - 183cm 79kg
    Josh Gibcus - 195cm 84kg
    Charlie Molan - 186cm 83kg
    Nick Hodgson, 19
    Sam Breuer - 183cm 80kg

(GWV) - Jye Lockett and Blake Scott have potential, not their best games, but when the game was there to be won Scott did step up in 4-5 important contests changing momentum from being a couple goals behind to having a goal lead, then the team went on to win by around 2-3 goals, so great work by Scott, Lockett pops up here and there for a goal, from his contests i like what i see in bursts, but is it enough?

    Western V Oakleigh Player Reviews
  • Western V Oakleigh - impressions

Western: not many standouts, most of the play has been on Oakleighs terms

Harrison White - 175cm 70kg (19), small mid with a lot of heart
Cody Raak - 192cm 80kg (19), has been ok, got a few poss but has not done a lot with it, a few intercept marks from wayward kicks

    Oakleigh: the usual suspects
Nick Daicos (Coll F/S)- 183cm 72kg, is doing whatever he pleases, gathering poss and spreading, moving forward and kicking goals

Sam Darcy (WB F/S)- 197cm 73kg, absolutely starring as a tall defender/ruck, super impressed, up there with Daicos as clearly the best 2 on the field (i believe he has kicked 5 goals in 2 school outtings as well in the last week)

Giorgio Varagiannis - 177cm 75kg (19), having a great game, clutch under pressure on a few occasions

Rankin, Thomas(19), Beilby(StK NGA), Kelvie(19), Thompson and Brown all having good games as well so far.

    Gippsland V Northern Player Reviews
  • Gippsland V Northern - comprehensive win by Northern

Gipps: 1 player stood out, a small handful looked decent

Chance Doultree - (19) stood out in a team beaten easily, worked hard and showed his class throughout the game.
Jai Serong - had an ok game, was involved a bit in the 2nd half, tall gangly player, might be a chance to get drafted late because of his size.

a few others played ok McGrath(19), D'Angelo(19), Noblett(19), Walton, Moschetti, Papley(19) and Evans

Northern: dominated most of the game with a few standouts

Ned Long - with 4 goals and some dominant contested marking as well as poss in the centre square he had a great all round game.
Ewan MacPherson - (19) another who played well through mid being tough and adding run through the middle
Joel Trudgeon - (19) another who was tough in the midfield and took a bunch of contested marks in the forward line
Josh Ward - added a lot of run and carry through the middle, good pace and skills in general
Jack Rossimel - had a few good moments as a leading forward, looked very competitive, good leading and marking and good in general play
Darcy Wilmot - intercept marking and run from defence as well as good disposal, he played another solid to good game

a few others who played ok Fitzgerald, Archer, Watson(19), Bowne(19) and De Bolfo(19)

5 players were top tier in this game imo - (very close all 5 players to being the BOG, i had them at 11-10-9-9-9 with the next player at 6 in my points system)
    1. Chance Doultree - Gipps
    2. Ned Long - North
    3. Josh Ward - North
    4. Ewan MacPherson - North
    5. Joel Trudgeon - North
