Smith has some zip to his game, hopefully the WBD have look at him for one of the late picks.....bit of JJ back in the day, running through the lines, having the odd bounce or three....taking the game on.

The double def, nice. Billy Dowling, Bailey Macdonald, Jonti Schuback would be my picks for our third pick in this hypothetical.

If any club get Husswaite after 20 they would be beyond ecstatic IMHO. I reckon he will be a top 10 player from this draft class

Another personal observation is that if Jacob Ryan isn't picked in the first 38 then some recruiters should get straight up fired. The kid will play 200 games mark it down.

The draft is nearly upon us and we're in the silly season of everyone watching highlights and having their opinions, it's interesting to see which players are being heavily promoted, some I agree with and some I don't agree with, but that's the same every year, I guess there has to be duds in the first round every year to keep up a long lasting tradition and knowing Carlton they will find them, I joke, kind of.

Having the perspective that we draft watchers have is like knowing where the big wins and the traps are and on draft night either enjoying a good pick for your own team or cringing and hoping for the best on a bad selection, most people won't understand it, but some will.

I think Melbourne Demons have the best recruiting team, I just like what they have done in recent years, Sydney and Geelong the best developers of talent and high end systems where even if they get an average talent, they can eek out every last drop of talent and have them play their systems with gusto (which the Hawks also used to have and are trying to get back there)

So onto the draft in the next 2-3 weeks and good luck to each team and supporter base, hopefully your recruiters pick the good talents and avoid the overhyped types.

end of 2021 view of the 2022 prospects from the u17's, u19's champs and a few State League performances. (kept here on post 2 for future reference)

now that the drafts are all done and dusted, i will throw out some early names to look out for, obviously things change in their draft years, some jump up the order based on performance/potential/athletic abilities and some fall from injuries/poor form/red flags ect so this is just an early ranking at this stage

Cant see any mention of Taj Campbell-Farrell.

The co winner of the Morrish Medal the NAB u18 B&F.

Cowan was the other co-winner and is looking like a 20 to 30 pick.

I've mentioned Taj a fair bit in this thread, I rated him early in the year, didn't like his trial games, missed the Vic country squad, looked slow and made a lot of poor decisions under pressure during that time (a lot of weird handballs over his shoulder?) so dropped him from my ratings, probably won't get drafted, unfortunately he carried a bad injury through this year, but lacks some athleticism and composure for the AFL imo.

As long as they don't read big footy they should be ok.

having rewatched and caught up on some late season games and with info from combines ect, i feel like making a few small changes to the rankings and its likely to be the last one for this year, i'll do a top 50 because i think theres usually around 60-70 drafted and some rags have been predicting 50 which is just low iq bait, but i'll chuck a top 50 out, because after that it gets a bit speculative

all tiers are fairly even on talent, but i have rated them on how i have viewed them over a 2-3 year period and not on highlights or journos opinions (who i doubt do much research tbh) except Cal and a handful of others.

Hotton and Hollands could easily be in tier 2, Konstanty and Cowan some consider tier 3, Munkara on talent is a top 20 player, but there are off field issues there, C. Clarke and Ed Allan have gotten a lot of attention late, Allan for his amazing combine results and late season form back from injury after showing some signs last year and Clarke from his consistent form for Sandringham and Vic Metro and his 2 goals a game as well as his aggressive style and goal sharking ability have made him a more attractive prospect.

I hear his brother Casablanca is gonna be a star, too!

Great work, I think most Dogs fans would be pretty wrapped with Buslinger and Weddle at our picks. Although we desperately need some speed, as well.
There seem to be a few outside/mid types still left in our 3rd pick range as well. I also think we'd be happy with those two at our first two picks

No Jacob Ryan? Aren’t the pies rumoured to be looking at him as early as pick 16?

Yea he is around the mark of 26-60, maybe unlucky, good run and carry, goal kicker when going forward, 16 is very high for him imo, Collingwood have taken a few average SA lads recently Poulter, Arlo Draper, Harrison and Murley, it's becoming a tradition down there.

Probably best to hold fire on those 3. All had significant interruptions to their year last year, particularly Draper, who had essentially no preseason.

All taken with late picks too, so not sure why shots are being fired. It’s not like we selected them with first rounders like is being talked about with Ryan (skeptical about this too).

Is there a major knock on Jones, besides his size? Seems like everything I read about him is great, yet he's only ever rated 25-35

Most under 177cm come at a discount in the draft, it's just how it is, at best he could go around pick 15 at worst in the 30s if I had to guess.
