Was thinking about this the other night.

1996 - Friday night, Geelong and Melbourne kick off the season celebrating 100 years of VFL/AFL football under lights at the MCG. Geelong ends up winning 27.21.183 to 8.8.56. Our leading possession winner, Liam Pickering, picked up 33 possessions.

2008 - Friday night, Geelong and Melbourne kick off the Tom Wills round, celebrating 150 years of football under lights at the MCG. Geelong win 24.13.157 to 5.11.41. Our leading possession winners, Enright, Mackie and Selwood, all picked up 33 possessions.

Melbourne even had the same number of scoring shots both times. :p

Wasn't it also the beginning of the end for the then melbourne coach Neil Balme? I swear that after we thumped Melbourne, Balme was out of a job a few weeks later?

for memory balme coached his last game in melbourne against geelong but it was the following year in 97 when we thumped them again on a Saturday arvo at the G.

Do u remember the day we also thrashed them at the G on a sat arvo but at the end of the game Benny Graham and Bluey McGrath collided and Benny hurt his elbow, it ended up ending his season and it ended ours as well....what year was that?

Thanks,

I knew we thumped them at some stage, and balme was swiftly fired thereafter! (Jeeze we like thumping that mob don't we? Almost as much as Richmond!)
