Still not all that happy with his disposal but at least he's getting the footy. I'd keep him in the side.

Spot on.
Dyson is like a Damian Cupido. They both look smooth, skilled and in fantastic shape on the track and in reserves games...but push the PRESSURE button on em both while playing a league match and they can't decide what to do with the football quickly enough.
Some players can't handle the aggressive stuff either...Ricky has less guts than DC...and thats saying something.![]()
I'm with U, he's got great potential, but he needs to work on decision making and he needs 2 "back himself" more. He will a star in 2009/10Good luck to him. I'm one of the 3 essendon supporters than think he is going to be ok. Hope he plays a ripper tomorrow night![]()
Completely different players. One stamped himself, the other is a sheep dog, you work out the difference.

Nope. Gets lost and watches the ball too much.
Only gets into the play when it unfolds for him. Doesn't know how to make space or time or where to run.
Got involved in the second quarter but thats about it.
The problem with ball watchers is that they are always second to the ball and don't think enough about the game. They don't get it to their and the teams advantage often enough.
Half his disposals were contested, so much for him not being able to win his own footy. Only mitch hahn won more contested footy.
You have to question those stats as I don't think he won the ball in any real contests.
I thought he was excellent tonight. Reason being after 1/4 time he was put on Aker and he did a very good job of dulling his influence while getting some of the footy himself. In the time he was on Aker , Dyson had 17 possessions to Aker's 15. After 1/4 time Akers influence on the game was greatly reduced.
I have seriously questioned Dyson on a number of times but i belive you have to be objective and judge his game last night on merrit. Yes a couple of times he did look his usual indecisive self but he was given a role to play after 1/4 time and he played that role extremely well. You cant expect him to be the player providing all the dash and run if he is the bloke told to shut someone down.
Sometimes i wonder if people (myself included) have let the expectations on Dyson cloud the actual facts of the matter. We saw his skills and run early on and probably expected him to be more than he is. Lets face it he was pick 44 in the draft so as a young player he wasnt looked at as being any sort of gun midfielder. Maybe we have been looking at him to produce the goods in a role that he was never really able to produce in.

Aker has been shizen this year. Can't run anymore and can only do cameo's.
kelvin_sheedy said:It was embarassing at times watching Aker toy with Dyson. When Aker got the ball things happened. I can't recall any influential possession for Dyson.
kelvin_sheedy said:So are you saying we should use him in a run with role? How many can we have in the side?
kelvin_sheedy said:He might have won 10 contested possies on the stats but he only laid 2 tackles the whole game.
kelvin_sheedy said:He should be doing what Leigh Montagna is producing at St Kilda at the moment. He's not within a bulls roar of that.
kelvin_sheedy said:I guess he gets a game next week due to us having no cattle to replace him.[/QUOTE/]
No he gets a game next week becasue his game last night was good.
I have had Dyson in the gun for a while now and he is on the list of players i would look at moving on at the end of the year but you cant let that cloud how you judge his games. He didnt produce the attacking running game last night but that is not what he was aksed to do. He was asked to get on a player who was running hot early and quell his influence and he did that and also won some footy. Given the fact that Slattery and Heff have been asked to fill similar roles and got a lot less of the footy i would say that Dysons efforts last night where very good.
Maybe Sheeds should give him a specific role each week e.g. running the whole game with a particular player. This way he will have a set task and so will have to make fewer decisions, which will hopefully result in him playing better.
He should be doing what Leigh Montagna is producing at St Kilda at the moment. He's not within a bulls roar of that.
You're comapring a 6th year player to a 4th year player.
It's interesting you raise Montagna though.
In Montagna's 4th year he played a total of 8 games for the season, the same amount of games Ricky's played this season. In his previous three seasons he only managed 22 games whilst Ricky managed 38 in his first three.
For quality, at least statistically, there is virtually no difference. In Montagna's 4th season he managed 15 disposals, 4 marks and nearly a goal a game. Dyson averages 14 disposals and 3 marks a game.
This comes after Dyson easily led Montagna statistically for each of their first 3 seasons.
Comparing Dyson to Montagna only provides another reason to keep him next year.
Montagna and Winderlich were fifth year bloomers, Dyson could well follow.
The only embarassing moment i remember was when Aker lost Dyson during the last quarter getting the ball of Darcey and set up a goal.
Sometimes i wonder if people (myself included) have let the expectations on Dyson cloud the actual facts of the matter.

I blame marcuz for getting us all so hot & bothered
I seem to do that alot.

Ahhh, good to see in my absence that the Ricky Dyson arguements continue.
Now I havent seen the game so I'm not going to comment on it, but to say Aker outsmarted Dyson is a ridiculous way of bagging someone. Aker outsmarts the best players in the game. The guy is a freak. Saying he outsmarted Dyson isnt a bad thing for Dyson. He will have learned from his mistakes and I'm sure he will be a better player for it.

I remember you wanted us to take him with Bradley's pick![]()
haha.
In hindsight we maybe should have picked nash with pick 6.
I saw Ricky do some special things as a junior, one day at Kardinia park will always stick fresh in my mind. The kid has the talent, just lacks the drive.
I think Stanton stands ahead of Nash at the moment, no matter how well Nash has played in the last month.
