Dear Ricky Dyson

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Pretty much the same old.

Running to the wrong spots, not putting enough pressure on, not doing enough with it.

No influence whatsoever.

I just don't think he has the footy smarts to be able to go up another level like Winderlich.

Agree entirely. A pissweak player all round. Prefer his spot to go to Campo at this stage.

Dyson is a dud....come match time.

Great at training, great at Bendigo, but when it comes to the crunch during a game...he's suspect. Always struggling, gets caught time after time and I've just about had enough of him.

Did anyone see the disposals of Geelong's young Wojcinski? Thats how Dyson should be playing. Ricky should get the highlights of this kid's aggression at the ball and have a look at his smart play while under pressure.

Compare Wojcinski's usefull 7 kicks to Dyson's 8. It's hard to find a Dyson kick that did any damage.
14 handballs to Ricky's 9..Wojinski's were far more effective compared to Dyson's hurried, panic disposals..putting his team mates under pressure with poor options at times.

And to all those people here who cry..."Yer,but they don't give him enough game time'...give me a break:rolleyes:
He's had dozens and dozens of chances to show his stuff and make us believe that he belongs in this senior side. He just hasn't got it imo.

Last night showed (once again) how important Stanton and Winderlich are for the centre bounces and playing in our MF. Lovett did well I think..others think he didn't...
Watson has learn't to kick:thumbsu:..he's going good.

But put Dyson in and look out...panic stations!!!

Johns is f---ing useless....trade him I say at years end before we get nothing for him.
McPhee just doesn't do enough. Wake up Adam!

On the positive.....Nash,Slattery and Welshy..good efforts:thumbsu:

Nash looks more comfortable with every match,Hislop compare to Houli's games...not bad for a debut..looks good.

Dyson.....You are hanging by a thread son....:o

I agree that Dyson has the job ahead of him and needs to start dominating more but just on the handball situation it was much easier for the Cats to have effective handball as they had players running forward in waves. This was in complete contrast to what we normally do as our blokes tend to gather in groups near the footy and we have to hanball to targets that are often stanionary and very close. The trouble with Dyson is he doesnt get into good position enough. He should be the player on the end of the handball streaming forward or working hard to find space but more often than not he is stranded in no mans land.

Also going to comment on Johns here. It is fair enough to say he is useless but he isnt going to get any better if we keep using him like we do. Currently he is limited in what roles he can play and it may always be that way so one would think you use him in a style that best suits him. As a forward he has one trick and that is to lead from the goal square and mark. When he has been used that way he has done a reasonable job without being a star. If you go back and look through the games he has played out of the square he has kicked goals and presented well. With Lloyd out of the side i still cant work out why we had him on the half forward flank . It only gives him the option to lead to nothing places on the ground. If we wanted a roaming half forward we needed to play Bradley.
Johns isnt a star. He doesnt have the smarts to play up the ground as a forward. What he can do is play FF from the square and possibly in defence judging by his recent Bendigo efforts. He is pretty much a one trick pony as a forward. He is no use if Lloyd is in the side as we have to play him wide and too far up the ground.
The other problem we have is that often our delivary into the forward line is that bad that you have to be a super star like Lloyd to make anything from it. I can tell you now that if you put Johns into a side that can hit targets and you simply let him lead out of the goals square he would kick 2 to 4 goals every week. Currently we just use him in dumb positions and half the time we cant pass it to forward targets in a position that favours them.

Agree entirely. For this reason I wasn't unhappy with Johns at all last night. At least he put his body in a couple times and set up a goal for Rama by doing so.

Far too soft to play in the midfield. When Davey and Lovett recieve the ball in the middle they head up the guts and create something. Dyson heads towards the boundary far too often. Unless he can play a Gilbee type role in defence I can't see a spot for him.

i have been trying to find a way to like dyson since he came in.
he does try extremely hard but i dont think he is good enough to be in our top 25. good reserves player:(

Ricky Dyson does look to have truckloads of potential but having watched his games closely over the years i can't help but get the feeling that he's s##t scared of any body contact whatsoever! Give him the rest of the year with some game time and if the performances dont improve i'd say bye bye!!

Exactly what i think should happen.

What alot you of so called supporters fail to realise is the injury interupted pre season that Ricky had. Give the bloke another full pre season and watch him burn next year. Looking at his stats from the weekend 17 touches in 75% game time is pretty good.

well it looks like he will get more chances over the next month, winderlick injured, hird injured, etc he will have an opportunity, he needs to be getting 20 quality touches per match though over the next month, we dont want another henneman or bolton where he just comes in for 6 or so matches per year do we.. he needs to show some real promise over the next month...

What you fail to recognise is that there is only so long that excuse lasts.

Looking at his stats from the weekend 17 touches in 75% game time is pretty good.

The other thing you fail to recognise is that the stats sheet doesn't tell the whole story.

It was a much improved effort, but if that's the best he can muster, he's pushing up hill for a spot on the list next year.

.

Then why do all the coaches, club committee, clubs football department managers and player managers drop that line all of the time. They dont only use it for fringe players but also for the superstars of the game as well. Obviously it is a valid excuse. If you know enough about football Longy, you would realise that you need to be at your peak physical fitness to be able to play at your best and if you have an injury interupted pre season then you will not be at your peak physical fitness.

What Longy is saying is he didnt have an interupted pre season this year ;)
He had a couple of weeks in the modified group with some hammy tightness but that was it. He had a good pre season this year.

On top of what Ant said, that had also been Dyson's excuse in 2006 and 2005.

Don't question my knowledge about football, and I know all to well about having injury interupted preseasons. Somewhere along the line, that excuse wears thin.

You can't keep a bloke on the list for 10 years if he keeps having bad preseasons.

I am pretty sure he has had an interupted pre season. He had to have surgery re done from when he was attacked outside a pub waiting for a cab. Not sure how much he missed though whether it would make a difference.

had surgery on his wrist and missed the 1st two weeks of pre season and tore his hammy and missed the 1st 3 practice games.

THEY ARE BOTH FACTS.

good luck ricky for this week. you and your 21 team mates will need to play your best footy to get over the line.

cheers pig

I will question your knowledge on football and fitness as you seem to know very little on the topic with your comments.

Who said a club will keep a player on alist for 10 years if he keeps having bad preseasons. I know I never did, so get your fact right please Longy.

As you can see with me, many fellow posters have agreed he had an injury interupted pre season. So I think you better start to attend more training sessions to realise what his happening at Windy Hill.

Where did I question his preseason?
Where did I say he did a full preseason?

All I said is there is only so long that excuse can last.

Where did I sprout that comment as being fact?

Are you only reading what you want to read?

I know what is happening at Windy Hill and I don't need to attend training to do it. I actually have a job.

The facts are, preseason training doesn't teach a player how to run to position, it doesn't teach a player work rate, it doesn't teach a player footy smarts.

They are the things holding back Ricky Dyson, not that he hasn't done a full preseason the last three years.

If you bothered to remove your head from your backside, you would realise that perhaps there are some of us who are sick of making excuses for Dyson. Last year it was the lack of a preseason, the year before it was the same thing.

Now its a lack of a preseason again?

It's because he had a wrist injury (can't you run with a sore wrist) that he lacks the ability to work hard?

It's because of a wrist injury that he doesn't seem to be able to take the right option when he has the footy? That he doesn't know where to run, or when to carry the footy?

If you keep carrying on with this preseason, or lack there of crap, you'll end up with the sore wrist, because you're clearly playing with yourself.

How bout we just say that there is chance, the kid just isn't good enough?

Are you ok Longy?

For someone with a job you seem to spend a lot of time on this forum?

Do you still ask players for their autograph?
