Amazing
Max Gawn - massive work rate, improved hit outs, clunking everything, clutch goal

Good
Winning from the back. Lever, Salem Hibberd very good. Hunt, Tomlinson solid. Petty battled - big test for him next week. Still prefer to Oscar McDonald by the length of the Flemington straight.

Kept at it, tweaked out ball use forward of centre, won ugly in a strategic battle.

Ben Brown and Weid strong in the VFL brings them into selection at just the right time.

Tom McDonald - good lead up and linking play but geez his field kicking is grosse sometimes. Can kick in a straight line, that’s it. Still big turn around from last year.

Kozzy

Bad
Is our biggest strength also our biggest weakness? How long before Max see’s another tag? We are better set up to handle it with Jackson but we still rely on Max for ball movement so much, especially D50 exits. Nic Nat/Vardy and Lycett await. Can our team/system get us through when he has a down day against a good team?

Small forwards were damaging early. Think we missed May here who can play smalls well too.

Jordan, Melk and Jones struggled for the first 3 qtrs. Sparrow for Jordan I’d say this week.

Ugly
Taking 3 qtrs to dominate clearances when we were dominating everything else.

Our ability to score with slow ball movement.

RIP in peace Big Col, he's in the big nightclub in the sky doing curls.... probably would have dropped 50 and 5 against the Tigers this week
Name a man who loved getting bulk possies and kicking bags against the Tigers more than Sylvia. Would have been the best possible night out in Melbourne with the big fella after the song

On the Gawn/Jackson thing, I think Jackson keeps sides much more honest. He provides a much different look in the contest compared to Gawn. And once we have Weid/Brown back it makes it harder to keep running through him with multiple threats.

I was sitting with my best mate who is a Hawks supporter. For three quarters I went on about how shithouse we were while he was going on about how well the Hawks were playing.

Good indication of where the two clubs are at.

What was that game? I was frustrated and stressed for 3 quarters, but then we come out and destroy them in the last and win by 50 points?!

This is not the Melbourne of the last couple of years, we played poorly for a lot of the game, but we withered the pressure and ended up grinding them down and really putting them to the sword in the last, what a fantastic last 30 minutes of football, was party time at the G.

Good: Lever was big again, Melkshams elite kicking was on display, Gawn dominated, our fitness is just elite with the way we run out games.
Bad: Forward 50 entries were trash and our goal kicking will lose us matches against better sides, but it's clearly in the head as our last quarter we killed it.

Fugly: ****ing Tim O'brien, will go down as a wasted pick for Hawthorn, but seems to have a go against us, will end his career as a nothing player.
Sam Frost, I used to love him but he likely won't be on a list in a few years time and seems like a campaigner on the field too, chose Hawthorn because he knew he'd spent his days at Casey playing for us.

**** the Hawks, how good does 5-0 feel? Honestly can't believe it. Go dees!

Also Kozzy had 2.3 from 18 touches and was always in the game. Had a few mongrel bastard moments too. Yet has just been mentioned in passing as 'good' today.

Kozzy is like a caged animal in the F50 contest, just constantly explodes toward the ball and away for the oppo Until he’s free.

Do yourself a favour and read the Hawks board game day thread. What a bunch of sooky salty flogs. Gold

I think Tmac's importance to the current structure is being undervalued. Proving a great target up on the wing and up forward.
22 touches (18 kicks) for 11 score involvements, including 10 marks is a great return. So important as a link out of the backline when his aerial game is on. 2.2 as well. Keep playing like that he's not getting pushed out

Finishing second last in 2019 after making a prelim the season before might just be the greatest bit of foxing ever seen in the AFL. Adding Jackson and Pickett to the 22 quite conceivably may mean the difference between some prelim and grand final appearances moving forward ... and actually winning flag/s. Sometimes Lady Luck kisses you on the boner.

Good: Gawn’s game was immense. BOG.

Bad: Let’s carry Jones to his 300. He deserves it. But hopefully he’ll read the room and retire with dignity.

Fugly: Brayshaw playing so deep on the wing he was sitting with me in Bay 42 row T.
Got a bit more involved when the game turned but this bloke once finished 3rd in the Brownlow!

Couple things, your opinions on Frost are just wrong, he was mvp nominated for hawthorn last year, was never in frame to play for Casey, he left because he was being severely under valued here and Hawthorn were offering $100-200k extra a year.
On O'Brien, family friend of mine got picked in the draft the pick after him. Both key forwards, both Hawthorn and Richmond were heavily into both players, it was always one or the other on draft night. Hawthorn pick up O'Brien, Richmond select my mate. O'Brien shows absolutely nothing, spends 3-4 years before he gets a debut due to Hawthorn being in their golden era, O'Brien has somehow managed to forge out a good career. My mate, dominates the vfl, wins vfl equivalent of the coleman 2 or 3 years in a row, don't remember what, doesn't get games ahead of Ben Griffiths and Ty Vickery, delisted. Goes to show how important a clubs development is, that Hawthorn have managed to turn a spud with no talent into a consistent player for them, albeit a shit player.

Is that Liam McBean? Haven't looked at the order, but remember the Tigs hype around him.

Yes, got seriously stitched up, you have no idea how bad the tigs were pre 2017.

Max Gawn is our best ruck since Jakenspencer went down on Anzac eve 2017

Worst 5-0 team ever. 🤗 (I'll keep saying it every week to bring the wins)

Hibbo, Lever and Maximus fantastic

Nice cameos from Hunt and Langdon.

Lot of room for improvement coz we were absolutely shithouse for 3 quarters. Loving the upside.

Uglies: Jones, ANB, Petty, Spargo, Jordon

Junktime legends to avoid uglies: Brown, Melksham

I hate to change a winning formula but fu** we have some nice players down at Casey and are deadset carrying some blokes right now. Swing the axe Goody you ruthless bastard.
Seems harsh on Spargo Jordon and even Nibbler tbh.

Tommo was probably worse than Petty too but made some athletic spoils on leads.

I just noticed Brayshaw was in great positioning in defense consistently as an extra man which probably shows he's really busting his guts, playing that wing role really well.

Don't remember a Lever blunder either though he did slip over on the Tim O Brien mark which was overshadowed by Tommo somehow losing TOB completely whilst ball was in the air. At least he brought Koschitzke down with him that time though.

Some people on the forum said Nibbler's ball use has been solid this year and I did not see that tonight, nor have I seen it at all this season. Pretty happy Melksham is back, don't know why he was dropped at all to be honest. The amount of influence he has on a game is correlated with the amount of times his teammates kick the ball to him, its the same with pretty much every connector forward type like Hannan last year; its not like they're bad at finding their own space, its just there's only so much they can do.

Tomo was garbage today, oversight by me, but he wasn't worse than Petty who I have a nervous breakdown over whenever the ball is in his area. I 100% stand by Spargo and ANB beingtmtrsh today, they were well down on what we've seen this year, felt like they just got in the way today. Fumbled. Missed tackles. Horrible disposal.

Jordon probably wasn't trash, just meh, like he seems to be a lot.
