Game Day Dees vs. Hawks

Thought I'd make a thread for some game day discussion for what is probably out most important pre-season game (if pre-season games can be important!). The Hawks have welcomed back some very important players and are fielding a strong side, while we have also welcomed back some important players to our structure.

Very interested in seeing how the new game plan goes against the Hawks. Apart from a late season game in 2010 it's been a LONG time since we have gotten anywhere near Hawthorn, and even though it's only a NAB game, I am hoping we can be far more competitive than we have in previous seasons.

Also looking forward to seeing someone step up in our forward half. Obviously Clark and Watts are the talls but with Jurrah out indefinitely I'll be interested to see which one of Howe, Petterd, Dunn and even Stef Martin can have a real impact.

With Moloney, Trengove and McKenzie all returning to complement Jones, Magner, Bate, Couch and others in the middle I think we can give a good account of ourselves. Too often in the past the Hawks have brushed us aside but I think we have the stronger bodies to compete with them more consistently.

Interested to see if Garland or Frawley matches up on Buddy and how close, or far, from goal Watts plays.

I'll have the microscope on Magner, Couch and Nicholson today. These lads are playing for spots on our list. (Not that the competition is that stiff with Williams and Evans injured and Sheahan not ready.) I'd love to see these boys put their hand up with super competitive performances.

This could also be the last time we see the boys live prior to round 1. Given our last two games have been in Melbourne the AFL could send us to play Fremantle in Kalgoorlie or Port Adelaide in Port Augusta West next week...

I'd like to see Tommy McDonald have a crack at Buddy. Got the size and endurance, would need to avoid body on body contact but then again most would.

Bloody hell do the Hawks look terrific. We are sticking to our game plan but they are cutting us up on the rebound at the moment.

Hawks are getting a nice run from the umps at the moment though too, getting very cheap free kicks. Growing pains today no doubt.
