Roast Defenders are a Worry

They have not really Except for RD 4 and 5 where we kept Hawks and Bombers to under 60 pts we have struggled to stop teams scoring under 80pts.

Yes I know the zone style can make it harder but it shows when our Defenders get 1 on 1 they get beaten way to easy.

Our Medium Defenders have come way to leaky. Looking at Maxwell and Harry here.

Reid has been good and shown he can come a good CHB with Good Rebound Skills with a Great Kick but Defending has still go away to go.

Rambo has been Hot and Cold but still struggles at time 1 vs 1.

Can't Rely on Preti as he is close to Retirment.

I don't think they're a "big worry" per se, but it's a huge ask to win a flag when three of your key position players have around 20 games to their credit. When Geelong just fell short of a flag in 2008, Harry Taylor was a revelation as a first-year player and key defender. It's very unusual for a young guy to step into a side and be able to fill such a role, albeit that he was slightly more mature-bodied at 21 yo. Reid, Brown and Dawes have been on the list longer, but are being asked to complete a massive, massive task to be part of a premiership side as KPP with < 50 games experience.

Very True and very Good Point. Having Reid and Dawes in the Spince with less then 20 Game and Expect to win a Flag is a Very Big Ask. Hopefully with more Games the Better they get

Everything is based on the performance of our midfield.

Last night we were smashed in the middle, particularly in the second half.

Black (gee he must salivate seeing the BnW stripes) tore us a new one, Power racked em up, Rich had quite a few touches......they were pumping into the Lions F50 with little pressure.

When our midfield is on top, it makes the defenders look good and our forwards life easier.

Presti just shows how good he is, he gets the fist in no matter what.

Heater still struggles to impact games when he is copping a defensive forward tag, this really is the one move that really hurts us...as Heater starts so many attacking moves for us.

Our defenders are fine....

Forwards need a better structure, the 3 talls dont work....purely because they dont know how to make space for each other.....we need Medhurst, Dick and Davis back. JA leads to the wrong spot, and he gave up some crucial bits of play up on the wing where we desperately needed him to have sticky hands.

A poor game from pretty much everyone on the list - id give Thomas, Presti and actually Macaffer pass marks (Macaffer was a great link man in the first half, had a quiet second but he made no errors).

Wood/Fraser both need to be dropped.....as others have said, playing an average ruck offers the side nothing.....only play two rucks when we have two Rucks who are in form.

Id be tempted to even push Reid up the ground and play him like M.Clark, as a roving tall wing.

Plenty to think about, a must win against the dogs next week or top 2 starts lookin shaky.

Top up strategy like Clement and Wakelin in the early 2000's, would help our defence immeasurably, given our lack of experience.

But this also takes away opportunities for youth to develop, so I would prefer to get experience into our current crop.

We need to reduce the expectations on them, they are young and will develop, and make many mistakes along the way.

Yeah I think people(Me Included) is expecting too much from our Young Key Defenders in Brown and Espically Reid who started as a Forward. But I think they can both be good defenders in time

Bit hard for the defenders when the mids don't bother chasing and pressuring the oppositons midfielders. Just let them run around by themselves

That does not help but also have some Slow Coaches in the Midfield like having Both Ball and O'Bree in the Midfield is a Big Mistake

True but not so much when it's a stoppage. Black and Power aren't exactly quick either. Just stupid stuff from our midfielders.

I don't think it's so much of a worry just yet. We're obviously blooding in youngsters, and we will concede goals like this.

I'm a fan of rotation, probably because I also watch alot of football (soccer) and maintaining rotations to develop and rest players is paramount.

I think we're blessed to have Brown and Reid, who can hold their own quite well in seniors. I think come finals time, we'll be well placed, our squad will be fresh and we will reap the rewards of fresh, mature aged bodies whilst solidifying the foundations to our future through these kids.

Well the Players look tired in there last 2 Games. Kids might need a rest and bring the Seniors back for awhile

this is the very obvious thing, Beams has had a downer the last month (his 4 goals against Geelong were more a product of the ball getting to him than any great work rate), and Steele is about an every 2nd week player at the moment.

It would seem obvious to put Tarks back in, and definitely at the expense of JA. Oh Jack, his marking positioning is terrible, if he drops it he hits the ground. I would almost say his effort at the end of the 3rd quarter lost us the game because it gave them the last 2 goals and momentum.

I though our defense did reasonably alright considering we were being completely smashed through the middle and leaving the corridor wide open with Brisbane players free.

Thank god for a few players actually trying otherwise the result could have been much much worse.

The defence is the one area on the ground I am not worried about in the slightest. I think we have the players to match up on almost all fowardlines it's just a matter of match ups.

Presti has shown he is still as reliable as ever.

Ried's defending has come along in leaps and bounds. He has when used in the role been very solid one on one, he is just not strong enough to compete with Brown. I don't think many are. This was a game where both Presti and Brown could have and should have played in the same side.

N Brown has been extremely reliable defensively this year, barely had a goal kicked on him. He doesn't always have a match up when in the same side as Presti but that is not his fault.

Toov's is shutting down smalls which we haven't had the luxury of in a long time.

Harry is back in top form defensively.

On top of that all of Maxy, Heater, Harry and Ried are fantastic at reading the play ahead and zoning of to chop out. 1%ers etc. Our defensive unity has looked for the most part of the season to be top notch.

Spot on agree with everthing you say
Reid must be left in the seniors for as long as possible he is our best kick out of defense, good in the air and on the ground, I think his best spot wpould be Maxwells position

Nah, Reid is a true centre half back. Has the potential to be as good as Nathan Bock when fit and firing.

Actually reminds me a little bit of Dustin Fletcher with his Long Arms and Rebound Ability
