Anyone know what picks we have? I tried to find it but can only find pre season draft picks.

We'll have pick 6 and pick 24, third pick will be 42 or maybe sooner depending on how deep other sides go.

is newman still under contract or was it terminated? If he is still under contract can another team take him?

He's still contracted but another team can take him.

If that happened*, then I presume they pay him the usual rookie wage for 2014 and we pay the rest of whatever his contract said he's entitled to.

*Won't happen though.

In away that would put clubs off knowing they would have to pay out the rest of his contract.

Given we have an early pick (5 or 6) surely we will pick up Templeton or Battersby with that pick?
IMO both of them could have gone in 2nd round of main draft. Or will we be sticking with local boys again?

hopefully best midfielder available with our first pick like you said those 2 guys were highly touted coming into the draft.

I agree. But chances are we will go with lesser known types given we took the lesser known Main over those guys in the main draft. I hope we dont get too smart for ourselves.

Not necessarily BT they would both need to slip through the Pre Season Draft.
The PSD has potentially 12 picks to taken before the Rookie Draft.
However the likelihood of all 12 picks being taken is remote , my guess is that the PSD will take about 6 picks.

So in short I would not be banking on either Battersby or Tempelton being available for our first RD selection.
Would be a huge bonus if the pair were available.

Actually sounding like no-one will take a PSD pick except GWS, and they might just take Jed Lamb and then pass on the rest.

5 Selections in the PSD according to the afl.com site. Swans won't be using all of theirs, they'll stay at a 38 player list. So it'll be GWS, Collingwood, Richmond, Carlton, Sydney.

I'm pretty sure I read on twitter the preseason draft might only be 1-2 picks.

Dont think Carlton and Collingwood at least wont be using theirs presumably so they can upgrade a rookie early in the year.

Franetic looks alright from that clip on the AFL page. Good disposer on both feet and by hand by the looks. Doesn't seem to be very athletic though.

Sorry, yes you are correct and Sydney won't be using their's.
So Lamb is locked and loaded for 1. 4 clubs are circling Joel Tippett, evidently, so let's hope he's locked and loaded ;) for another early pick, then anything can happen from there. :)

Assuming we don't use our first rounder on Newman (like we did with Houlihan ) we should go local in the rookie draft, unless there is someone we really rated in the ND sitting there from Interstate. They're on year to year contracts and moving players over from interstate to be put on a rookie list isn't the best idea, unless they're mature age (over 21).

If we're taking Newman with out last pick then Shanahan or Cameron with our first rounder. Slight preference for Cameron as Ruckmen are hard to find, he's a great size at 204cm and has great skills. Shanahan is a bit vanilla but mostly it comes down to his style, he tested very well and he's a good size at 185cm. Abbott, Powell, Edwards, Sokol should be considered.

Richmond eyeing delisted Brisbane Lion Todd Banfield for tomorrow's rookie draft: http://afl.to/1aUMfry

Lions have committed to taking him but the Tigers are keen ( good replacement for Nahas) so i hope no one does that for Newman. But i do doubt a team would take Newman without knowing his future surrounding his court case.

I think they should just let teams demote a player to the rookie list instead of making the team re-rookie them. Maybe do what they do in the national draft where you use last picks to upgrade and in the rookie draft use the late picks to demote a player.

EH I understand your logic on local vs interstate for rookies, but in this case Templeton is from Tassie so has to move if he wants to get a go, Battersby is from next door (Adelaide) so I would be comfortable taking either - particularly with having Niko to look after the new boys.
IMO we should go for best available mid as our 1st pick. Maybe Abbott for 2nd.
